Morning, Noon, Afternoon, Evening, Night...

Sometimes we are surprised at something by its innovation, but that's not what it's about here. Afternoon Swim is a very easy scent to please, that's a fact! I would say that it is even common to opt for a path of strong commercial appeal.

The fragrance is amber with citrus, sweet and spicy characteristics. The opening is effervescent with the freshness of orange along with the spiciness of ginger. With something that reminds me of a citrus soda. A contrast between the citrus accord of orange and bergamot with ambergris.

The perfume surprises by starting more shy and gradually expanding as if it were a flower blooming and exhaling more and more its sweet and sharp aroma.

A perfume with a good versatility in terms of weather, but in terms of occasions I think it's more suitable for more sophisticated situations or even outings in the summer. The fixation and projection of the fragrance are excellent. The perfume is sweet, light, soft, warm, luminous, shareable, refined, sensual, common and modern.

Good summer citrus

Alright, so from the start, just know that this isn’t a very complex fragrance. It’s also heavily weighted to citrus notes, so, if that’s not your thing try another Vuitton perfume.

Afternoon Swim kicks off with its orange notes front and center. I do smell mandarin, but another orange seems to have the upper hand, and there’s also a solid dose of bergamot.

It reminds me quite a bit of Dior Homme Cologne or Allure Homme Sport Cologne by Chanel, just with different citrus notes, and more ginger. Less spicy and resinous than the Chanel.

I like the addition of the ginger note, as it gives Swim a bit more heft than just being another thin and quick citrus scent. It’s also one of my favorite spices, so it really grabs my attention.

The other scent that I am reminded of is, Millesime Imperial by Creed. That one and this LV fragrance both have an ambergris note, at the base, but it is much lighter here.

Personally, I love a fragrance, and this one is a great example. Bright, juicy, and full of vibrancy. Very much like being at the pool or walking a seaside promenade during the warmer months.

As it moves along, I get more of the bergamot on my skin versus the orange note and just enough of the ambergris to add a touch of saltiness to the composition.

That’s pretty much what the tail end of this fragrance is all about.

Modern perfumery at its best

I like it. I really like it.

This scent is so much more than simple oranges & bergamots. It has a very complex and stable base in the background, made of ambers, modern molecules and very pungent aroma chemicals which literally trap the tangerine smell for long long long time.
This is not at all a simple cologne. It might have a cologne vibe but with much more stuff inside which makes it smell like a very elegant, classy and modern perfume. Absolutely huge compliment getter.

The price though... i'm not discussing wether it's worth or not, i just think that 260€ for a bottle it's just mad. Being such a huge company like LV and they can get the best prices of raw materials, bottles etc. Even if it was made of Oud or Vanilla Absolute, the price tag is damn crazy.

For me the performance is really good, everybody around me can smell it and they say i leave a trail even 8hrs later. I usually apply 5-6 sprays around the neck and one in the back of my head, so the shirt gets some perfume too.

Fake vitamin powder “juice”

It’s interesting that everyone pretty much has the same thoughts on this fragrance: smells amazing, but doesn’t last. I don’t agree with the first part. It’s ok, but there are much better scents in the genre.

The issue is mainly the citrus note. It is not crisp and realistic like in Dior Homme Cologne (2013) for example, but rather has this fake sweetness injected into it. M. Cavallier-Belletrud said, “I wanted a shot of vitamin C in the fragrance, something full of energy,” and I think he succeeded a bit too well. It smells like one of those citrus-flavored powders you mix with water to get a fake-tasting “juice.”

The dry down is a fresh musk that I feel like most other perfumes with this DNA contain, nothing special. I’d say for a citrus musk freshie, Dior Homme Cologne (2013) and even Versace Man Eau Fraîche Eau de Toilette are just more pleasant to the nose.

SCENT ON 10

One of the best scents you can buy and one of the shortest lasting money can buy.
Better keep a small decant with yourself all the time on the day you’re wearing this so keep reapplying after every 1-2 hours.
Some have suggested to apply molecule 01 with it so I am gonna try that too and see if it adds few extra hours.
