A fresh take on Iris. My designer signature scent?
I originally got this fragrance on my birthday back in 2021. I was so happy with what I received that I immediately took it for testing and reviewed it not even an hour later. In all fairness, my review back then was rushed and may not provide an accurate representation of how I could possibly feel about this fragrance over time. I always enjoy looking back at older reviews that I've done to see if my opinion has improved or changed as my fragrance taste has changed. At the end, I'll show you my original ratings compared to my ratings now to see if Prada L'Homme is my designer signature scent and has remained in that spot for the past 3 years.
The Smell: If you're a fan of Dior Homme or DHI, chances are you're a fan of the iris. Dior nails that note and just makes it upscale. Prada's L'Homme utilizes iris as its main player but adds neroli to really bring out the floral aspect with that amber to help smooth the fragrance out and give it some added density. It's honestly refreshing. I have about 20 mL left in my bottle if that tells you about my usage on this stuff. I'm a fan.
Rating: 9/10
Projection: The projection is ok. Not crazy strong but the beauty about this fragrance is, it doesn't have to be. Prada balanced the scent profile while still making it project just enough to where you know it's there and sticks around for a while as well. It projects for about 2-3 hours and begins softening on my skin and hangs close until it eventually dissipates from my skin. Usually, I'm hard on a fragrance for not performing versus its price point and that will continue here. It's a designer so I'm not expecting mind blowing performance but I'm still expecting it to be noticeable. I stated early that it does that but not for as long as I would have liked. Just a little more "oomph" and I think my rating on this category would have been much higher.
Rating: 5/10
Price: Depending on where you search, you can find this anywhere from $57 USD (Amazon) or $130 (Prada's website). If you can get it cheaper, more power to ya. I will say it's worth every cent that I paid for it when I snagged my bottle from Dillard's. It was a buy on first sniff and I didn't even care about the price. If you can find a fragrance to cause you to make foolish financial decisions, you've found a winner.
Rating: 8/10
Versatility: My ultimate "anytime, anywhere" fragrance. This is my "Swiss army knife" of the designer world and the proof is in the pudding. I have used up almost the entire bottle in 3 years and I own a little over 80 fragrances in total so that speaks volumes. I reach for this stuff for work, dates, casual wear, you name it. It's perfect and that's why it gets perfect marks here.
Rating: 10/10
Final Verdict: 8/10 by the numbers. My original review on Fragrantica had this at an 8.3. I will say that my subjective rating has changed. I rated it as an 8 back then. It's been bumped up to a 9/10 for me now. A very solid 9 at that, with me nearly giving this a 10. If it's projection were slightly better, I'd be giving it a 10. I have owned two Prada scents and both of them saw lots of use from me, though I'd argue at the time, Prada Amber Intense was my favorite. Prada L'Homme has now taken that top spot for me. It's been my designer signature scent for 3 years and unless something mind-blowing comes out, that's not changing anytime soon.
Bonus section: Ratings then versus Now
Smell: 9. It remained the same. Nothing changed here and I actually expected this.
Projection: 6 (then) vs 5 (now). This is why I say don't review stuff only an hour after testing. I was not far off though because my rating only changed by a single point.
Price: Didn't rate this back then
Versatility: 10. This category didn't change, as expected.
Final Rating: 8.3/8 (then) versus 8/9 (now). My objective rating decreased slightly but my subjective rating went up a full point. This surprised me because not only did this fragrance grow on me, it's become my safety net. When I don't know what to wear, this is a sure bet.
