Also a fragrance that I managed to get this year: Cashmere Wood from the Purely Orient line by Ajmal. This brand from Dubai actually offers relatively affordable fragrances, but this Purely Orient line is more of a "Private Blend" and is significantly more expensive. It is still within a reasonable range and settles at an elevated designer level, at least in terms of price. If you are looking for a great alternative to fragrances like "Dior Homme Parfum | Dior",
Valentino Uomo (2014) Eau de Toilette, or
Oriental Essence - Roi d'Orient, you are already at a good address here. I don't really seek similarities to Alexandria II, even though it has slight oriental touches through tame Oud.
As mentioned, this Ajmal is not so inexpensive. However, if you are looking for a great fragrance in a familiar direction: This one is worth its money and simply has that certain something in my eyes. Of course, it’s not necessarily a must-have if you already own fragrances in this direction, yet it is a wonderful mix of familiar iris powder DNA with a great woody oriental touch.
The packaging is already heading towards niche, as one would expect at this price. You get a great cube that contains this bottle. This 75ml bottle is flawless. Visually, it’s not a favorite of mine, but it is well-made and, thanks to the ribbed glass, fits nicely in the hand. The bottle is also quite solid and heavy.
As I said, you don’t get a real mind-blower here, as you have encountered this DNA more often if you have been in the perfume world for a while. It primarily reminds me of
Oriental Essence - Roi d'Orient, of course with better performance and also more depth and a somewhat higher quality. Right from the opening, this wonderful powdery sweet note comes through. A truly lovely iris that doesn’t radiate too much of that lipstick vibe. Rather, it has a pleasant unisex powdery sweetness that simply feels elegant. Accompanying this in the opening are some fresh gentle lavender and a subtle juicy mandarin. However, in the foreground during the first hours is a powdery sweetness with a wonderful cocoa note that doesn’t become too sticky-sweet. This cocoa offers a stylish sweetness with a slightly bitter chocolate note. Along with creamy tonka bean, which rounds this off nicely. The base is very pleasant and cozy with Oud, cedarwood, amber & patchouli. Oud sets in early and provides a great oriental touch that isn’t too "stinky." Of course, at this price, it’s not real Oud, but the oriental character is well captured. The "Cashmere Wood" here is cedarwood. The woody soft tones also set in early and are present from hour 2-3. Patch & amber complete this oriental note in a harmonious way. Overall, it’s very rounded and pleasing.
Performance is quite good. It’s not a complete room-filler, but you will be well perceived. The longevity is at least 8-9 hours. Perfect for stylish occasions and especially a great companion for evening activities. However, this fragrance would also be suitable for daytime wear.
Overall, a great fragrance. A wonderful overall package for fans of this iris DNA, here with a bit of oriental character. A stylish fragrance for both men and women that already brings quality.
