Lovely raspberry/oud, strong but smooth
First proper sampling of East, the second most recent release from Akro, in 2023, a bit of a big swing toward an oud-rich mix, quite different from most of the house’s catalogue to date. The principal notes are oud assafi, raspberry, leather, and ambrox, and while rose is not listed formally, there is a bit of a rose/oud vibe via the raspberry/oud mix, I dare say. The mix of sweetness tempers the oud but itself is not overwhelming. The blend seems balanced, smooth, elegant, while also being rich and high-performing. I do not detect too much leather (or spice, generally), which makes it seem a bit more of a straightforward oud/raspberry blend, albeit with the suggestion of rose. It’s very easy to love for someone familiar oud but generally not prefer the more intense, animalic, or medicinal versions of it.

As with the house’s most recent release, Glow, East is in extrait concentration and priced at $250/100 for 100/30ml to the usual $180 for 100ml in EDP. As with the rest of the line, it is sold via the US house website and great boutiques like Perfumology, which just celebrated its launch of the house at its shop.

Overall, I’m really pleased with this release and consider it among the house’s best few.

It's not talked about, but why not?!
In my opinion, East has an almost linear scent progression.
There is only one change during the progression, which is that the fruity component gradually diminishes over time.

East showcases three accords, all of which are pleasant to smell; raspberry, leather, and oud.
One might think of a Widian London, Kinetic Sillage, or even a Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford.
There are certain parallels, yes. Nevertheless, East is definitely unique because this fragrance also has that woody oud component.

In my opinion, the scent starts directly with this mix of fruity raspberry, leather, and oud.
Oud adds a certain dark touch to it.
I even had the feeling of sniffing a bit of rose, but that was probably misleading due to the oud.

Over time, the raspberry gradually recedes. It remains subtle but is still quite noticeable.
The slightly dark woody impression combined with the leather now clearly takes center stage.

The performance of East is really good. It lasted for hours and projected well.
However, the sillage is somewhat weaker than the longevity itself.

All in all, a good fragrance that definitely deserves to be tested!

..If you like woody scents, if you enjoy oud, leather, and have no issues with the mix of leather-oud-raspberry, then this fragrance is definitely worth a look/a sniff.

East merges raspberry, synthetic oud accord and a smooth leather. Dark, fruity, with rose and resinous sweetness from the Ambroxan.

Really nice oud for the price point, smells very similar to oud for greatness or Widian London

Opens harsh terps, then noticable absence of smell. Gentle oud with sweet raspberry @ 5 min. Grows deep resinous. Pleasant but hurts my nose

The sweet leathery smell is jarring at first. But it dries down to a beautiful, sweet woody scent, similar to an incense stick.

Only tested this on paper because I knew from the notes it would be a nose burner for me. I was right.

Soft raspberry start that dries down to a straight up oud scent. Nice but may be a bit heavy.

Ombre Nomade in more playful. Raspberry with subtle rose and a dark oud/leather base
