More like "An insanely creamy Jasmine dream" - (much) too little for €265
"2025" and "Atkinsons" just don't seem to hit the mark. None of this year's releases have really blown me away, and the Midnight Scented Dream is no exception. Creamy-powdery jasmine in abundance with subtle vanilla on sandalwood - unfortunately for too much money...
• Spraying:
Dominant powdery jasmine start. Rarely have I been so taken aback by a jasmine synthetic variation... Ouch. Due to the "pure" form of jasmine (=Paradisone), it lacks an edge - which is a good thing, because otherwise Midnight Scented Dream would have been a hot candidate for the wash-off. With a lot of imagination, you can smell a hint of citrus; there's also a slight spiciness.
Sillage on my skin is very strong.
• 25 Min:
The powderiness is gone - it's now to be replaced by "creamy".
Intense, creamy jasmine with unfortunately little tension, as it factually smells ONLY of sweet jasmine and extremely subtle sandalwood. A bit of tonka bean is certainly present, but it doesn't change the very linear drydown so far.
• 50 Min:
Still incredibly much jasmine with a slightly more prominent vanilla now.
This extremely forward-pushing floral quality clearly pushes it in a more feminine direction for me. There will certainly be men who wear it, but fundamentally it is very feminine for me.
• 1.5h:
Little change. No peppery tingle or perhaps something more pronounced in wood. "Linearity" in its pure form :-(
What can be said in its favor: Sillage is still far from "gone".
• 2.5h:
Still enduring jasmine absolute in molecular form. The vanilla is getting more space, it is now moving further forward. A bit of almond, a bit of heliotrope.
• 4h:
Unfortunately still one of the most boring drydowns - especially in this price segment.
Sillage is now only skin-close, but after 4 hours it is completely acceptable.
• 5.5h:
Wow - is this finally (!) the end of the jasmine? Midnight Scented Dream is marked by a more noticeable vanilla with sandalwood and tonka bean.
• 7h:
The vanilla is fading, suddenly the jasmine molecule is making a comeback :O
It becomes creamy-powdery again.
• 10h:
For me, it's almost over now.
It now has only a subtle jasmine note with artificial musk and sandalwood.
------
Conclusion:
I really don't have much more to say, do I? Jasmine ultras will be completely satisfied here. For everyone else, this is all too linear, too strongly trimmed in one direction and that at a retail price of €265 for 100ml. It will definitely remain just the sample I got from my last perfumery visit.
I see it in autumn and winter.
Quite wearable daily, but please not in the (open-plan) office. The perfume and the environment need room to breathe.
Definitely feminine for me.
