BTV Glistening / Initio Oud for Greatness

Last week I ordered for a gorgeous Xerjoff attar at a niche perfumery. Together with my order, they gift me five samples of perfumes.
As an avid collector of perfumes, my eyes sparkled when I saw that among them there were samples of Boadicea, a brand that only in two perfumeries in my country you can smell or buy them (and not in my city). With all the illusion in the world, I tried the first one, BTV Glistening. What a disappointment I felt when I noticed I was smelling Initio Oud for Greatness. It is true that there are moments when nutmeg is more predominant in Boadicea than in Initio, but in general, the smell is exactly the same.
The perfume is great (if you like Oud for greatness you have to like this one, and I like it a lot). The bottle is very nice (like all Boadicea bottles), but is it worth the price? Not for the smell (Oud for Greatness is not cheap either). If you are a bottle collector, it depends on your economy.
Considering the price range of Boadicea perfumes, I was expecting something different, not a copy.

When just glistening is not enough ..

As the locals of Palma de Mallorca say, summer 2023 seems to have been one of the hottest in the last 10 years. After an exhausting bike ride of about 7 kilometers, we finally reached the Castell Hotel Son Vida, an impressive building like you see in soap operas. Inside, there is one of the two local shops of the perfumery "Niche Perfumes." (The other shop is located in the St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort).

We entered, curious and sweaty, after cycling a long way through the heat wave outside.
Immediately, we were hit by many very pleasant scents, mostly sweet, always complex and refined.
"Spirit of Kings" stood on a pedestal in the middle of the room and received the attention it deserved. Around it were the rest: Xerjoff, Stéphane Humbert Lucas, The House of Oud, etc.

In a corner, as if hidden and shy, were the fragrances of Boadicea the Victorious.
From here, a single bottle caught my attention, as if it were a piece of old wood where the Vikings let their imagination run wild: nothing other than "Glistening."
"Is it good? It must be, it doesn't cost 320€ for nothing."
The first sprays and a smile appeared on my face: "It's a pleasant scent that doesn't reveal the bottle, but wait, something seems familiar. I've smelled it before, but from a different bottle and still different."
As mentioned, it is very similar to Initio Oud for Greatness.
"I would say lighter, more wearable? But no, this is not a fragrance DNA that should be shy. This scent is made to be noticed. So what is the purpose of Glistening? Just because of its beautiful bottle? Or has my skin changed its pH due to so much sweating and I'm not perceiving it as I should?
I want it, I need to test it, I order a sample."

And so we returned to Germany with Glistening and some of its other brothers, ready to test them at more humane temperatures.

After wearing it a few times, I could conclude: "Yes, it's damn good, lasts 10-12 hours and projects well. However, I have to compare it with the original, "Oud for Greatness" by Initio. OfG is more intense (the good old variants), not as rounded, a bit less sweet and darker. But everything here is minimal as mentioned, since I find the two 95% similar.

At first, nutmeg and saffron explode and sweeten the Oud to come. Lavender to sense, well, if it's listed, maybe only perceived by the most refined noses. In the end, musk yes; patchouli, again, for my nose, somewhere..

Now I come to the price. The "Glistening" cannot be found on sale. It costs 320 € and that's it. In comparison, the "OfG" is occasionally found online for 205 €, here on Parfumo even less.

Is it worth all that stress for a scent we already know, have, (love)?

If you only think of the bottle, like all bottles from Boadicea - a handcrafted masterpiece - then yes. However, opinions differ here, as I hear people complaining about the poor quality, that the metal from the bottles is coming off. Could it be an isolated case?

Here I would like to make a remark: If we humans, priceless beings, get sick from time to time, let's be serious, should everything around us be perfect? Even if it costs 320 €. What comes off can be glued back on.

Personally, I like the presentation, but that is not the reason why I buy the perfume, but because of the scent and its quality.

In this case, unfortunately, just glistening is not enough.. I like "Oud for Greatness" too much to make room for "Glistening" on the shelf.
