Wanderlust
A few words have been borrowed from German into English. Kindergarten and Rucksack, for example. And so also Wanderlust. As a perfume for people with wanderlust, Clean Reserve Avant Garden - Hemp & Ginger is advertised on the English version of the official website. I think of the "expats" I know, and Hemp & Ginger would really suit them. There is no hemp listed among the fragrance notes, and I assume "Hemp" refers more to the possible clothing of the wanderlustful. A kind of eco-Lara Croft and her male counterpart. Thus, the target audience is clear. Hemp & Ginger falls within my preferences, and I fit the target group. I am the Valkyrie version of Expat-Lara Croft, even though I don’t own any hemp clothing. Lara is also not getting any younger, and there is delicious food in distant lands.
The scent is initially citrusy, the usual bergamot as a start, along with ginger, and I also had the impression of catching a hint of oud in the top notes. Since countless perfumes start with bergamot, I wasn't initially impressed. In the heart notes, it becomes spicier. Cardamom and pepper are prominent. Slowly, I am starting to like Hemp & Ginger more. It is herbal-spicy. The longer I wear the perfume, the more I like it. The oud becomes stronger in the base. It is a woody-smoky oud. It wasn’t leathery on me, and I’m really glad about that, as I rarely get along with leather.
The projection is rather low. Perhaps it is suitable for work despite its oudiness. However, I would prefer a bit more projection and wouldn’t wear it at work. The longevity is good. It lasts for at least seven hours on me at around 20°C. In my opinion, it is truly unisex. You can wear it in the evening, for going out, in your leisure time, and maybe even for competitive liana swinging or machete racing.
Although it is quite nice, I will probably not buy it. It is not exactly cheap (but not very expensive either), I would definitely get strange comments at work, and it is not different from other oud perfumes, even if it claims to be. But everyone has to test it for themselves.
