Very good scent, weak profile...
I bought the fragrance after trying it out a few times, cheaper than in the shop...I really liked the scent itself, but the sillage and projection are very average. Still, overall it's a very good wearable fragrance for almost any occasion, at least for me. I wear it in the office, on the street and in the evening.

Disappointment
I had a dupe that I really liked. It was the perfect fresh summer scent. I decided to sample the real thing. The fresh and masculine part of the smell is beautiful. It has more depth than the dupe, which I really liked.

However, this fragrance has a note called "Calone" in it. To me, it smells rotten. I couldn't stand the original ADG and D&G Light Blue Intense because of this note. I thought that maybe I would get used to it, or that it would go away after 15-30 minutes. It never went away. I can still smell the perfume the day after. And the salty, nauseating note is still there.

It's a shame to see such a beautiful scent get ruined by an unnecessary note. If you're considering blind buying this, please check if you like similar salty notes or not.

Acqua Di Colonia Mare
To be honest, this fragrance opens up like a mediterranean eau de cologne. A sort of herbal citrus that one can find in Gomez Aqua Concentrada. Or Acqua Di Parmas. Not exquisitely original but more than fine. With an Italian DNA this is more than natural. The marine notes are much more subtle than classic aquatic power bottles. The rosemary "heart" note is there from the start, more than the sea can top it.
Lavender arises gently. Like it should. There is a journey.
And then there is the citrus / fougere plateau. Stays there for an hour or 2-3ish. Then it drops to the base, much more subtle than I perhaps would like.

On the card a slightly marine but mainly mandarin citrus fest for an hour or two. And than less of it all. Seems the rosemary is less present on paper.

Nice fragance? Yes. allround. Performance is definitely not beast mode. But perhaps a slightly less marine allrounder that in a bad mood can be described as a adg'ed southern eau de cologne.
The ADG (non-profondo) parfumo is more "profondo".
Time to test Azzaro Chrome Extreme....

PS. IMHO one of the most beautiful bottles out there.

What is the Profondo 2024 and what is it not?
Acqua di Gio and all its reissues... Is the Profondo 2024 worth recommending or can it be dismissed as unremarkable? That depends...

Well, we need to clarify what the intended use of this perfume is, what expectations one can have, and what not. Furthermore, it is important to explain why a comparison to the 2020 version is inappropriate and whether the Profondo 2024 has its justification.

Let’s start with the intended use
The Profondo 2024 is a relatively unremarkable, fresh, and aquatic scent with a certain something. The fragrance notes listed here give, in my opinion, a pretty good impression. It fits best in spring and summer, yet it is actually wearable anytime and anywhere. You will always smell fresh and pleasant, as if just showered. I can't make much of the term "Profondo," which means "deep," but it does sound cool.

Now about me and why I bought this perfume:
I was looking for a high-quality perfume for any sporting activities that is not cheap but still within a reasonable price range for its purpose. At just under €80 for 100ml, the Profondo 2024 falls into this category for me.

Until now, I had either perfumes that were too overpowering for sports, ones I simply didn’t like, had a different intended use, and didn’t embody sports for me, making them feel out of place, or expensive niche perfumes that were too precious and costly for me to wear while exercising.

While browsing the new Parfumo search function, I eventually stumbled upon the Profondo and remembered it, then decided to test it, and what can I say, it was a complete success. In my opinion, the Profondo does not change much in its scent progression and remains relatively linear, which I personally find optimal for the purpose I defined. I want to smell good, fresh, and modern; I don’t want to experience a fragrance journey of various facets while exercising. This it fulfills. It keeps coming back to my nose and has, at least for me, a very pleasant interplay with my sweat. Receiving compliments for its scent while being completely drenched in sweat is something you can get used to. It is by no means intrusive and stays in the background. It does not overshadow me but supports me with its background presence. At the same time, it has a very slight sweetness alongside the citrusy, fresh, and aquatic notes, which gives it that certain something without being intrusive and also sets it apart from other perfumes in the lower price segment.

Even if not everyone can appreciate it, for me, it also adds to the appeal that you are wearing an Armani and not a cheap fragrance copy from elsewhere. The DNA is not copied and builds on the foundation of a big name in the perfume world with this flanker. The bottle looks quite nice, even if it obviously doesn’t have Roja quality. It is indeed very attractive and also of high quality. The sprayer is good too.

What can you expect and what not?
As already stated, you can expect a spring/summer perfume that proves to be a high-quality companion, especially for sports. What you should not expect, however, is a completely new, unprecedented fragrance DNA that evolves throughout the day. That is not what it is, and it shouldn’t be.

Why is a comparison to the 2020 version inappropriate and, above all, unnecessary?
For some months now, it has been evident that a change has taken place at Armani, and they are reissuing many of their perfumes with slight modifications. Anyone who smells the 2020 and 2024 Profondo side by side will notice only minimally changed nuances and, without the direct comparison, probably wouldn’t even recognize which version it is. In general, it can be said that Armani is making their perfumes more mass-appealing and tailored to the mainstream. This means, in plain terms, that green notes, which can sometimes be considered "edgy," are being removed or their proportion reduced, while everything pleasing is being ramped up. Fragrance enthusiasts usually appreciate these nuanced facets, as they make the scent more layered and thus more interesting, while the average nose either doesn’t perceive them at all or finds these facets unpleasant and perceives the linearity as more pleasant and agreeable. Therefore, it is understandable that Armani tailors their perfumes to their primary target audience, and rationally, this is the right decision. You won’t find niche here, and you shouldn’t expect it. The adjustments are therefore logical, and comparisons of the 2020 to the 2024 version are, in my opinion, inappropriate and unnecessary, especially since you can no longer buy the 2020 version new.

Conclusion
Now let’s return to the question from the title: What is the Profondo 2024 and what is it not?
If you are looking for a high-quality perfume for sports activities, you will find it here, just like I did. For that, I give a clear recommendation. If you want to experience an unprecedented, new fragrance journey with various facets, you are in the wrong place. One must be clear about what to expect and what not. For my purpose, sports, the Profondo 2024 is fantastically suitable. I also find the small adjustments compared to the 2020 version good.

Finally, please understand my evaluations in this sporting context.

Why Armani...?
Why take the DNA of the original, smooth it out so much that the scent is liked by 100% of everyone on the planet...I just don't understand it. Unfortunately, the new version falls short in almost every aspect compared to the original from 2020, but maybe I'm alone in this opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Fragrance DNA:
Do I really need to say anything about the DNA? Just like with the 2020 Profondo, you have a fresh, slightly fruity opening here, underlined with a certain aquatic note. However, Profondo (2020) had more to offer, in my opinion. It had that bitter, mineral, and slightly mossy note. It felt cool and definitely deserved the stamp of "Profondo." The new version delivers all of that somewhere too, but it's so toned down that it no longer contrasts with the other notes as I would wish or as I know it. Profondo (2024) is primarily a fresh, aquatic fragrance. A bit fruity, a bit green, a bit woody - a little bit of everything, but nothing really. For me, it simply lacks the stamp. The original was known for that, in my opinion. One could accuse me of simply saying that everything was better in the past, but as someone who has already emptied 2 bottles of Profondo (2020), I feel entitled to make a judgment, at least for myself. Be that as it may: The 2024 version drifts along a bit, becoming somewhat softer and woodier over time, just like the original...the fruity top note diminishes as it progresses.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Longevity/Sillage:
Here too, unfortunately weaker than expected. For an aquatic fragrance, it's still within the range, I get about 5-6 hours out of it. It's just the comparison to the original version that makes me ponder. If it weren't for that, my review would probably be significantly more positive, but it is the new version, so it has to be measured against it.
As mentioned, 5-6 hours is quite decent. Sillage is also strong for the first 1-2 hours, then it fades over time. I have to say that in terms of longevity and sillage, it loses about 1-2 hours compared to Profondo (2020). Without the comparison: Still very solid, so it's not a major negative point.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Bottle:
Much, much nicer than the 2020 version, I think. Here, Armani really did a good job, the color gradient looks great and it feels more cohesive overall. Thumbs up!
----------------------------------------------------------------
Price:
What really bothers me is the reduction in the amount. Price-wise, you now pay the same for 100ml as you did for 125ml of the 2020 Profondo. I find that to be...(you know it). Still, 65-70€ nowadays for 100ml of designer fragrance is still okay. However, the price-performance ratio has definitely declined for me, solely due to the reduction in volume and the poorer longevity/sillage. Still acceptable, though.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion:
I don't really know where Armani wants to go. Clearly, it's obvious: Profondo (2020) didn't fare well with many due to the described notes; it was too angular, too mineral, too herbaceous, too green - however you want to put it. So Armani reacted, adjusted the fragrance, and now, unfortunately, just like the AdG perfume, it is a rounder version of the original. However, rounder is not always better, as is the case here. It lacks the nuances that defined the original. The edges did the fragrance good; it was anything but generic for me and also not a typical shower gel scent or "Aquate," unlike this version for me. Well, I’ll stick my neck out and say: For 70-80% of consumers or the target group, this was the right decision. The fragrance has become more mass-appealing, perhaps more wearable - for me, simply more boring and generic. Profondo (2020) was unjustly "hated" in my opinion; I really grew to love it. With the new version, more customers will surely reach for Profondo, but as a lover of the original, Armani has unfortunately lost me. Just like with the new version of Profumo, but that's a different topic for another day.
Well, I am just one of many to Armani...it's just a shame for me. It just seems to be getting more and more generic in the designer world, the reformulations of fragrances are a blow to fans of the originals, as is the case with Profondo (2020) and Profumo.

Am I alone in this opinion? The fragrance seems to be doing really well here, which generally makes me happy. I'm just reporting on my individual fate, but enough for today.

All in all, it's more worth a blind buy if you're into this type of fragrance and looking for something for summer - you can buy it without hesitation and get exactly what you expect...at least in 2024 ;-D

One of my favorite Acqua Di Giòs - the combination of mandarin, lavender, and patchouli is so crisp and refreshing, like citrus ocean water.

Seems to be the same as 2020 but with better performances. Still oceanic sexy smell. Love it.

Really, after 1 hour scent totally is gone. Scent is not bad though. This one is like the ''Parfum Profondo'' a bad buy.

+ Citric and sweeter than the original. Super aromatic "sea" feeling. Then Woody, musky, clean. The base reminds me of Narciso Bleu on skin.

This is an amazing smelling fragrance. I would happily pay full retail for this if it were not for the lack of performance... This thing doe

My favourite aquatic, makes me nostalgic for past tropical holidays. I love the smell left on my clothes. Middling performance.

An amazing, effervescent, sparkling scent at first; but that best part goes away after 1-2hrs into a more sharp/astringent mineral + woods.
