Very good scent, weak profile...
I bought the fragrance after trying it out a few times, cheaper than in the shop...I really liked the scent itself, but the sillage and projection are very average. Still, overall it's a very good wearable fragrance for almost any occasion, at least for me. I wear it in the office, on the street and in the evening.

Disappointment
I had a dupe that I really liked. It was the perfect fresh summer scent. I decided to sample the real thing. The fresh and masculine part of the smell is beautiful. It has more depth than the dupe, which I really liked.

However, this fragrance has a note called "Calone" in it. To me, it smells rotten. I couldn't stand the original ADG and D&G Light Blue Intense because of this note. I thought that maybe I would get used to it, or that it would go away after 15-30 minutes. It never went away. I can still smell the perfume the day after. And the salty, nauseating note is still there.

It's a shame to see such a beautiful scent get ruined by an unnecessary note. If you're considering blind buying this, please check if you like similar salty notes or not.

What is the Profondo 2024 and what is it not?
Acqua di Gio and all its new editions... Is Profondo 2024 to be recommended or can it be labeled as not worthy of attention? That depends...

Well, we need to clarify what the area of application of this perfume is and what expectations you can and cannot have. We also need to clarify why a comparison with the 2020 version is inappropriate and whether Profondo 2024 has a right to exist.

Let's start with the area of application
Profondo 2024 is a relatively unspectacular, fresh and aquatic fragrance with a certain something. In my opinion, the fragrance notes listed here offer a pretty good impression. Of course, it is best suited to spring and summer, but it can actually be worn anytime and anywhere. You will always smell freshly showered and pleasant. The term "profondo", which means "deep", doesn't mean much to me here, but it still sounds cool.

Now to me and why I bought this perfume:
I was looking for a high-quality perfume for all kinds of sporting activities that wasn't cheap, but wasn't too expensive for its purpose. At just under 80€ per 100ml, Profondo 2024 falls into this category for me.

So far, I've either had perfumes that were too powerful for sport, that I simply didn't like, that had a different area of application and didn't embody sport for me, so that they felt out of place, or expensive niche perfumes that are too expensive for sport in the long run.

While browsing through the new Parfumo search function, I came across Profondo and remembered it and then decided to test it and what can I say, it was a complete success. In my opinion, Profondo does not change much in its scent and remains relatively linear, which I personally find ideal for the area of application I have defined. I want to smell good, fresh and modern, not experience a fragrance journey of different facets when I do sport. It fulfills this. It always gets up your nose and, for me at least, it has a very pleasant interaction with my sweat. Receiving compliments on its scent while you are completely drenched in sweat is something you can get used to. However, it is by no means obtrusive and stays in the background. It doesn't outshine me, but supports me with its background presence. At the same time, it has a very slight sweetness to the citrusy, fresh and aquatic notes, which gives it that certain something without being intrusive and also sets it apart from other perfumes in the more affordable price segment.

Even if perhaps not everyone can relate to it, for me there is also the fact that you are wearing an Armani and not a cheap copy of a fragrance from somewhere else. The DNA is not copied and builds on the foundation of a big name in the perfume world with this flanker. The bottle is a real eye-catcher, even if it is of course not Roja quality. It is very attractive and of high quality. The sprayer is just as good.

What to expect and what not to expect?
As already mentioned, you can expect a spring/summer perfume that proves to be a high-quality companion, especially for sports. What you should not expect, however, is a completely new, unprecedented fragrance DNA that lasts half a day. That's not what it is and that's not what it's supposed to be.

Why is a comparison with the 2020 version inappropriate and, above all, unnecessary? For some months now, you can see that Armani has undergone a change and that they are relaunching many of their perfumes and changing them slightly. If you smell the 2020 and 2024 Profondo next to each other, you will still notice the maximum change in nuances and without a direct comparison, you will probably not be able to tell which version it is. Basically, it can be said that Armani is adapting its perfumes to make them even more suitable for the masses and tailored to the mainstream. In plain language, this means that green notes, some of which are considered "edgy" and can have an effect, have been removed or their proportion has been reduced and, in return, everything pleasing has been increased. Perfume enthusiasts usually like these nuanced facets, as they make the fragrance more multi-layered and therefore more exciting, while the normal nose either doesn't even notice it or finds these facets unpleasant and perceives the linearity as more pleasant and pleasing. The fact that Armani tailors its perfumes to its primary target group is therefore understandable and rationally the right decision. You don't get a niche here and you shouldn't expect to. The adjustments are therefore logical and, in my opinion, comparisons of the 2020 with the 2024 are inappropriate and unnecessary, especially as you can no longer buy the 2020 new.

Conclusion
Let us now return to the question from the title: What is Profondo 2024 and what is it not? Anyone looking for a high-quality perfume for sporting activities will, like me, find it here. I therefore give it a clear recommendation. If you want to experience an unprecedented, new fragrance journey with a wide variety of facets, you've come to the wrong place. You have to be aware of what you can and cannot expect. For my purpose, sport, Profondo 2024 is fantastic. I also like the small adjustments compared to the 2020 version.

Finally, please understand my ratings in this sporting context.

Why Armani...?
Why take the DNA of the original, round it off until the fragrance is 100% liked by everyone on the planet....I just don't understand it. The new edition is unfortunately inferior to the original from 2020 in almost all respects, but maybe I'm alone in this opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Fragrance DNA:
Do I need to say anything else about the DNA? As with 2020's Profondo, you also have a fresh, slightly fruity opening here, underpinned by a certain aquatic quality. But Profondo (2020) had more to offer here, in my opinion. It had this bitter, mineral and slightly mossy note. It had a cool effect and definitely deserved the "Profondo" label. The new edition delivers all of this somewhere too, but it's dimmed down so much that it no longer contrasts with the other notes in the way I would like it to or know it to. Profondo (2024) is first and foremost a fresh, aquatic fragrance. A little fruity, a little green, a little woody - a little of everything, but nothing really. For me, the stamp is simply missing here. In my opinion, the original was known for this. I could be accused of simply saying that everything was better in the past, but as someone who has already emptied 2 bottles of Profondo (2020), I may presume to be able to pass judgment, at least for me personally. Be that as it may, the 2024 version is a bit of a ripple and then, like the original, becomes a little softer and woodier as it progresses...the fruity initial note diminishes as it progresses.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Longevity/sillage:
Again, unfortunately weaker than expected. For an aquatic fragrance, it's still fully in line, I get 5-6 hours out of it. It's always the comparison to the original version that makes me wonder. If it didn't exist, my review would probably be much more positive, but it's the new edition, so it has to measure up.
5-6h as I said, but very decent. Sillage is also strong for the first 1-2 hours, then it flattens out over time. In contrast to Profondo (2020), I have to sacrifice about 1-2 hours in both longevity and sillage. Without the comparison: still very solid, therefore not a big negative point.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Flacon:
Much more beautiful than the 2020 version, I think. Armani has done a really good job here, the color gradient is just great and it looks more harmonious overall. Thumbs up!
----------------------------------------------------------------
Price:
What annoys me is the reduction in the filling quantity. You now pay the same price for 100ml as the 2020 Profondo for 125ml. I find that...(you know it). Nevertheless, 65-70€ is still okay for a 100ml designer these days. However, the price/performance ratio has definitely decreased for me, simply due to the reduction in the filling quantity and the poorer H/S. Nevertheless, still okay.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion:
I don't really know where Armani wants to go. Of course, it's obvious: Profondo (2020) didn't go down so well with many due to the notes described, it was too edgy, too mineral, too harsh, too green - whatever. So Armani reacted, adapted the fragrance and it is now, unfortunately, just like the AdG perfume, a rounder version of the original. In my opinion, however, rounder is not always better, as is the case here, for example. It lacks the nuances that made the original so special. The edges did the fragrance good, it was anything but generic for me and also not a typical shower gel fragrance or "Aquate", unfortunately this version is different for me. Well, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that for 70-80% of consumers or the target group, this was the right decision. The fragrance has become more suitable for the masses, perhaps more wearable too - for me it's simply more boring and generic. Profondo (2020) was always unjustly "hated" for me, I really learned to love it. With the new edition, I'm sure more customers will reach for Profondo, but unfortunately Armani has lost me as a lover of the original. Just like the new edition of Profumo, by the way, but that's another topic for another day.
Well, I don't care about Armani as one of many...it's just a shame for me. It's just getting more and more generic in the designer world, the reformulations of the fragrances are a pain in the neck for fans of the originals, as with Profondo (2020) and Profumo.

Am I alone with this opinion? The fragrance seems to be doing really well here, which makes me happy in principle. I'm just reporting on my individual fate here, but enough for today.

All in all, it's worth buying blind if you like this kind of fragrance and are looking for something for the summer - you can buy it without hesitation and get exactly what you expect...at least in 2024 ;-D

Blue as the sea.....
Vacation on the Mediterranean, boat trip. A sea breeze blows in your face. The sun is burning down on your head. You urgently need to cool down. The bartender on the boat makes you an ice-cold water with a shot of mandarin juice and a slice of lemon, which you pull off in one go. Immediately afterwards, you jump off the boat into the cool sea and treat yourself to the perfect cool-down.

Description:
The fragrance starts citrusy, sparkling and fruity with a very light sweetness. In the heart note, the citrus disappears and makes way for a maritime fragrance with a beautifully natural effect. The light fruitiness and sweetness continue to resonate. In the base, it becomes a little calmer and slightly woody. The fragrance does not offer a complex progression, nor does it need to.

Performance:
For a fresh, aquatic fragrance, I think the performance is really not bad. It radiates quite pleasantly for the first two hours, then recedes somewhat but still remains present. You can feel it on the skin for much longer. It's not an Ambrox monster, but it still lasts really well. That amazed me!

Design bottle / packaging:
The 2024 version has a wonderful color gradient in the flacon design, which I like much better than the 2020 version. In general, I think the bottle is really cool and timeless. The rounded, wide, flat shape simply has style and looks beautiful. Unlike the perfume, the cap is unfortunately not magnetic. What a pity. As with (almost) all designers, the packaging is simple and fulfills its purpose, but nothing more.

Conclusion:
Here you get a high-quality Aquat, which convinces with its light fruitiness and sweetness. It feels wearable for every occasion / weather. You always feel fresh and don't get on anyone's nerves. Of course, it really comes into its own in summer. Freshly showered in the morning, three or five spritzes on your neck and clothes and then off you go. It also works wonderfully in the office. A clear test or buy recommendation.

+ Citric and sweeter than the original. Super aromatic "sea" feeling. Then Woody, musky, clean. The base reminds me of Narciso Bleu on skin.

The marine notes come across as harsh laundry detergent. Beyond that, it isn't really interesting in the realm of aquatic designers.

*yawn* I’d rather wear AdG Parfum. This isn’t a required buy (like most now) out of the AdG line in my opinion.
