An eyelet dress iris perfume
It opens with what I call the “sweet spot” for Iris: balanced perfectly between an earthy, rooty iris and a powdery one. Never truly tipping too far one way or the other. The iris at the open is similar in shape to Iris de Nuit by HEELEY (not quite as carroty as this one however) but settles to a steely, cool, iris very similar to Harmonist Royal Earth.

Once dried down, this is a shier iris, sitting close to the skin. It’s no powerhouse.

I had been sampling this off and on for about a year before I made my decision to purchase. So despite what others point to as performance issues (and they are correct) it’s such a beautiful soft fragrance that I wanted to add.

To me, this is a white eyelet dress: soft, delicate.

Something is always...
For a long time, I was a devoted fan of iris, as I found the often delicate buttery note enchanting, and over time I had several iris fragrances in my collection. Until - yes, until I grew weary of iris. Instead of being softly creamy, I found it rather powdery and, after prolonged use, even dusty and oppressive. From L' Erbolario to Le Galion, Prada to Guerlain, I was constantly searching for the iris that used to bring a smile to my face, but in vain. I almost resigned myself, but then Gucci announced the Tears of Iris, the first revisions were promising, and the beautiful video in the advertisement did the rest. I participated in a sharing. Should I come close to my iris dream again?

I was about to rejoice. There it was, the finely powdery, lovely, romantic pastel note that makes you forget everyday life, a hint of nostalgia, a bit of shabby chic, and due to the opulence, I already planned to dose the sample from the sharing as discreetly as possible, so I wouldn't fall into the temptation of "more is more" and thus destroy the fragrance's aura.

The disappointment came so unexpectedly that it felt almost like a shock, because after hardly an hour, the Tears of Iris had dried up, and I could only faintly sense the excitement that had moved me just moments before, close to the skin. Gone - simply gone! I don't know what went wrong in the development of the fragrance, as other iris perfumes have always had a normal progression. So it can't be the iris itself. Anyway, I felt like many other fragrance enthusiasts - the longevity is not worth mentioning, and thus the fragrance was stripped of its soul. For the delicate nuance of the scent that lingers after hours, I don't need to get too close to my piggy bank.

I will use up the sample and put the topic of iris on hold for now. Perhaps I will also return to my roots and treat myself to "Hiris" by Hermes again.

You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
Every time I wear this fragrance and perceive its scent, I have the song "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls in my head. This is not only due to the name similarity but also to the lyrics and the mood that the song conveys.

Lines like "And I'd give up forever to touch you" or "You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be" wonderfully reflect the unattainable elegance that the fragrance radiates, as well as a feeling of security: "When everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am." A place of refuge on one's own skin.

The fragrance always remains in balance. It is mature, yet not outdated, but rather experienced. It is dry, yet lively enough not to be boring. It is floral and powdery, while also being woody. Suitable for all genders equally.

"And all I can taste is this moment, And all I can breathe is your life" translates excellently to the longevity and sillage of "Tears of Iris." Unfortunately, the place of refuge does not linger long on the skin and can only be perceived in close proximity. Time with the fragrance flies by as if it were just a moment, yet in this moment, there is so much, as if "Tears of Iris" has breathed its whole life into it.

Gucci encourages layering the fragrance with perfumed oils and Acque Profumate from The Alchemist's Garden series to make the place of refuge your home. However, I do not want that; I would like to spend more time solely with "Tears of Iris": "And I don't want to go home right now."

The Ashes of the Phoenix
After just discovering the wonderful iris fragrance "Ida Violet," I did not expect such a quickly following divine top note to come flying at me when I sprayed "Tears of Iris," like a colorful bird with the colors of the rainbow, simply beautiful. The driest iris clouds my senses; I am truly overwhelmed. Stay a while, you are sooo beautiful, I think, and I am in absolute fragrance heaven.
However, I fall abruptly from scent cloud 7 after about 5 minutes when I suddenly can perceive nothing, but really nothing at all. Highly irritated, my nose wanders back to my wrist repeatedly over the next quarter of an hour; I did spray it on, or was it all just a dream...?
And then, slowly, as if from nowhere, the scent rises like the phoenix from the ashes. It returns, but now it is transformed.
Slightly spicy angelica root makes the scent stronger now. I experience it as if the fragrance is divided in two. At first, you get the full iris charge, but after a short creative pause, the other notes unfold. I would then describe it in this further phase as woody-spicy. The iris plays more of a background role, with musk harmoniously accompanying it.
By the way, the process is slowed down when sprayed on fabric; the fine top note lasts longer, and it becomes less woody-spicy, but as Serduszko already described, rather a bit lipstick-like, which I prefer.
In the statements, a similarity to "Misia" was mentioned, and the question of a true Morillas was raised.
To investigate this, I sprayed all three fragrances in parallel.
Well, the common denominator with "Misia" is probably the spicy note. In direct comparison, "Misia" (I used the edP) is clearer; there is no woody musk note here like in "Tears of Iris."
As a true Morillas, it can confidently be labeled, as the fragrance in the second phase features finely intertwined notes. Compared to "Nylaia," which came to mind, there are no scent similarities. Even though "Tears of Iris" returns after a short dip, "Nylaia" has more radiance; positively put, "Tears of Iris" remains much softer and closer to the skin.
Do you know the Harry Potter episode "The Order of the Phoenix"? The beautiful phoenix can heal with its tears until it turns to ash again, only to rise once more.
Overall, I quite like the fragrance, but I shed a small tear for the beautiful iris at the beginning; thus, the name "Tears of Iris" resonates with me personally very well ;-)
P.S.: After many, many hours (yes, I can still smell it ;-) the iris mixes in more clearly again. There remains a light sweetness reminiscent of grape sugar-fruit, as I already know from "Magnum Iris" or "Silver Iris."

An iris-musk-sandalwood composition. Nothing breathtaking, yet beautiful. Starts lipsticky & ends with soft woods on a cushion of musks.

Iris in agony. Gray veiled, modestly strict, dry-powdery, joy restrained. Her tears pure dust. Blown away life. Unredeemed maiden.

What a magnificent iris opening-
dry and powdery just how I love it.
Green speckles dusted with powdered sugar in between.

Iris root (almost) in pure form. The dry-dusty note is enhanced by angelica seeds and musk with sandalwood: minimalist!

No tears. Morillas and I just can't get along. I only get the full dose of theatrical makeup. It sounded so enchanting.
