If you've smelled black shoe polish you've smelled this

Take a pair of black leather shoes with some cypres shoe trees in them, open up a tin of polish and take a lighter and light the polish so that it softens up.

That's 100% identical to this smell. It's shoe polish, with some burning (incense) and then Cyprus.

I just can't imagine any scenario where you would want to smell like this, to the point that it's projecting more than an arms length off of you, and the silage trail is massive. In no way is this a safe blind buy.

It's uncanny how identical this smells to black shoe polish.

I will say, this is one of the best perfume bottle designs I've ever seen, I just wish it smelled as good as it looked.

Smooth incense with woody tones, very nicely done

A Midnight Stroll is my of Gucci’s collection The Alchemist’s Garden and is a lovely dark blend of incense, cypress, and cedar, so it fittingly is incense-dominant but leans wood as well. It’s dark and smooth, reminiscent in execution of By Kilian Incense Oud but fittingly with more incense and less oud. It’s not quite as ashy as Profumum Roma Olibanum—which I usually regard as one of the best incense-dominant fragrances in the market—so it’s an even smoother, slightly more mainstream/designer-esque incense-heavy mix that is nonetheless very wearable and fairly enjoyable, without much bite in the opening.

It performs pretty well overall, and in the US, is sold via the Gucci website and the department stores Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom, and its retailing pricing is $330 for 100ml. Also, I usually don’t gawk over bottle design the look of The Alchemist’ Garden’s bottles, most even more colorful than the black of A Midnight Stroll, are lovely.

Overall, A Midnight Stroll is great, and would certainly be made better by a lower price point, so I’d be curious to see if it’s available anywhere on the secondary market, and I’ll have to seek out some others in The Alchemist’s Garden.

A true treasure!

Context: You are Erik Alfredson, leader of a Viking village, which will fight against a hostile village today.
You wake up to a tremendous thunder. It is dark, but the sun is already dawning through the window. You pull off the furs that kept you warm on this cool autumn night and get up. You give your wife, who lies next to you and is sleeping, a kiss on the forehead, knowing that you may not return from the journey you will embark on today. Upon arriving in the kitchen, you grab the bag of food that your wife has prepared for you. A loaf of bread and 2 wild boar legs. You put on your helmet, leave your wooden hut, and make your way through the forest to the village square. It is raining, and you walk briskly through puddles, the mud splattering up on you. Upon reaching the village square, you can already hear your men from afar, who will embark on the journey with you. They too know that not everyone will return. One of them is smoking a pipe, the scent of tobacco enveloping the village square. Now everything comes together. The scent of oud rising from the wooden huts around you. The leather of the furs you covered yourself with at night. The earthy smell that emanates from the rain-soaked ground. The tobacco from your men's pipes. The fear of what lies ahead. You set off towards your boat to embark on this journey together.

This describes this scent for me.

Search Without a Goal

... I exhale the last big puff of my Parliament cigarette.

The cold, damp air mixes with the scent of fresh smoke.

For a few more meters, I carry the almost burnt-out butt with me and reflect.

On my life, my experiences, the things one survives, and what life still has in store for me. It is so peaceful... Just the stars, a gentle wind sweeping through the old town, and me.

This beautiful scent of a cold night slowly but surely drives away that of burnt tobacco, and I stroll further out of the city, heading towards the church. The damp earth and the typical church smell always fill this place with a very calm, albeit mysterious aura.

But now it is time to go home. Carelessly, I toss the butt onto the damp ground and stamp it out as I walk by... The first rays of sunlight of the day gently accompany me on my way home.

The fragrance truly smells like a nighttime walk in the rain. The first few minutes are almost aggressive and sharply smoky, but this quickly settles into a pleasant incense note. The cypress and cade wood together evoke for me that typical scent of a rainy evening in early summer.

It’s great for layering... But definitely as a base, so that the aggressive cigarette note can first fade away.

Very mysterious, especially at the beginning, still very masculine...
