Bitter board
The title of the perfume already reveals the main components you will be confronted with. Oud in combination with yuzu. I don't need to go into detail about the more common ingredient oud (also known as eaglewood), as most people will be familiar with this ingredient. However, yuzu is an ingredient that initially raised a question mark, at least for me and probably for many other perfume enthusiasts. Yuzu is also known colloquially as Japanese lemon, so the origin is already clear. In addition, this citrus fruit, which is known to be bitter, is hardy and therefore remains evergreen down to temperatures of -12 degrees. A hard-hitting type of lemon, so it sounds like the perfect counterpart to animalic oud, doesn't it?
The manufacturer describes the fusion of ingredients as follows: "Oud Yuzu Forte, the surprising contrast between the sacred smoke of eaglewood (oud) and the mischievous bitterness of yuzu. An encounter between wood and citrus in a perfume between shadow and light."
Basically, I would like to praise the courage behind the unusual combination, but the end result is a little unrounded and does not harmonize as well as usual oud-rose combinations. The base is not bad at all, but I find the bitter-citrusy note in combination with the woody note rather disturbing. Perhaps the fragrance is too unusual for my nose, but I can't really get used to it. I also find the placement within the Aqua Allegoria range questionable, as the fragrance is a little out of line. Of the 31 registered users on Parfumo, 71 percent are female. I am not particularly surprised by this, as Aqua Allegoria generally appeals more to a female audience, but this fragrance in particular is also very suitable for men.
The performance is fine. I was able to smell four sprays on my neck for four hours. It can be better but also worse.
The bottle is beautiful, at least it matches the yuzu lemon quite well and for anyone wondering why a bee actually adorns the bottle and the upper part looks like honeycombs, here is the explanation: "Since 1853, the bee has been the symbol of the House of Guerlain. This extraordinary pollinator gives the world the most beautiful flowers, which provide perfumers with the richest palette for their compositions, and produces products in its hive that are invaluable to Guerlain skincare. The bee is not only an environmental guardian and guardian of biodiversity, but also crucial to food security on our planet. As they are acutely endangered, they must be protected at all costs. Since 2011, Guerlain has been working with fifteen partners and initiatives through its "Guerlain For Bees" protection programme: mobilizing a network of allies that is constantly expanding."
In terms of price, I would also describe the fragrance as "okay". 75ml cost 91 euros. The fragrance may not knock the buyer's socks off, but at least you won't be blown away by the price.
Would I recommend the fragrance? - No.
Because there is an oud fragrance from Guerlain that convinced me in all aspects and only costs a little more than Aqua Allegoria Forte Oud Yuzu, namely Santal Royal Eau de Parfum.
