Dragon's blood incense in a bottle

As a long time lover of actual dragon's blood incense, the idea of this fragrance appealed to me instantly. I'm happy to report that this is one of the best, most photorealistic incense fragrances on that market, and easily the best (if not the only?) dragon's blood based fragrance as well. This fragrance opens with a very traditional incense smell that gives off the vibe of a stick of burning incense, smokiness and all. There is a bit of sweetness and fruitiness to this fragrance, which contrasts the warmer and smokier notes quite well, and helps add balance overall. There is also a fairly prominent patchouli note in the dry down which adds a touch of earthy bitterness that works well in this case, though I would advise against this one for people who are not a fan of the smell of incense and patchouli. There is quite a bit of warmth from the resin notes here which really tops the fragrance off nicely. I probably sound like a broken record, but this fragrance is truly a photorealistic burning incense smell that I think a lot of people will love, especially those who are into more 'natural' or earthy scents.

I personally really like this fragrance, as it allows me to smell like burning incense without having to actually burn incense, and without everything else being saturated with the forementioned smell of burnt incense. This is a very well blended and well rounded fragrance that I'm elated to have in my collection. I can see myself wearing this one quite often, especially on colder days where the scent of warm incense feels like the right mood!

The ultimate for those obsessed with dragon's blood

IMO most synthetic dragon's blood perfumes have a musty, congested profile that smells like someone wiped DB incense ash off a surface with a soapy rag. I've tried more dragon's blood-forward perfume samples than I can count.

This is the ONLY perfume I've found that replicates the scent of real resin. It's clean smelling - warm and dry and spicy. I do get a bit of the rose and benzoin, but any other notes seem to vary a lot from person to person. It's 100% natural so it doesn't stick around for more than 4 hours or so on the skin, but if I spray in my hair and clothing it stays with me all day.

This is not the most complex scent, but it's heavenly for those who really just want to be enveloped by the true scent of Dragon's Blood. Love spritzing it on before bed when I'm feeling stressed, or in general when I need to feel grounded or cozy. I love burning Dragon's blood resin but it's so messy that this is an absolute dream of an alternative.

This Dragon belongs in an antique store

This is a joint review of Heretic's "Blood Box" sample set, though numerical ratings above are specific to Dragon's Blood. The Blood Box set includes Dragon's Blood, Blood Berry, Blood Orange, and Blood Cedar. Purchased this given the awesome name and intriguing scent note of "dragon's blood." Who says you can't buy a book for its cover? The scent note itself (not the fragrance) - which is noticeable across all four fragrances -- adds a depth and darkness to them all. It's not bad, but the effect is mixed.

The fragrance Dragon's Blood smells like an antique store - very woody, kind of old and a tad musty. Maybe a grandma would like it, but that's it. Blood Orange does indeed smell like the fruit blood orange, but rather than being fresh or light, the dragon's blood note also gives it a grandma vibe - this is definitely something I would have found on my own, real grandmother's dresser top. Blood Berry is even worse, having a somewhat floral component and even stronger position on grandma's nightstand. Only Blood Cedar is any good. It is a very handsome scent, reminiscent of cedar furniture, a high-quality cedar chest, or a Christmas store.

Unfortunately for all four fragrances, projection and longevity are weak. Heretic's big thing is plant-based ingredients, so I guess one trade off is the weaker power. I'd skip all these aside from Blood Cedar, for which I wrote a longer review.

just what I needed

I blind bought this impulsively for no reason I can really remember. I wasn't super interested at first spray but I wore it for the day anyway. Still didn't feel like anything too special, but I ended up reaching for it the next day too. Over a couple of weeks last winter, it became my go-to scent.

I love this scent. It's deeply comforting to me, a warm, dry, woody incense note that adds character without being too bright/too sweet/too strong. It doesn't overdraw attention, it smells like you've been in a room with incense burning rather than wearing an incense scent.

I wear it in colder seasons when I want something that feels "neutral," believe it or not. I like layering it with more floral scents to give them some complexity too :)

now for my complaint:
my god I hate this awful bottle. the words have almost completely wiped off within a year of using it semi-consistently, which, cheap, but ok. but the real problem is that the atomizer sprays a thin concentrated shot of fragrance instead of a wide, even mist. it feels like i'm scolding a cat with a squirt bottle. just feels overall bad quality and super annoying.

Power of dragon's blood

Dragon's Blood is my favorite scent from the Blood Box collection. Granted, I have no idea what the actual dragon's blood resin smells like but I love incense scents, and this is just ~different~. It is so raw and woody and smoky and addictive... This is a potion with a drop of dragon's blood in a bottle, drink it to unlock the ancient wisdom and power.

Funny, how Heretic takes notes that I normally cannot stand (e.g. oud) and just blends them into a scent that I end up loving... Dark magic of Heretic :D
