en rosglitterkonfekthäxa
Sometimes a perfume surprises you by being something completely different from what you expected, and Heretic’s Häxan, rather than the poison gardens and shadow work that many reviewers experience, is, for me, pure romantic magic. Not exactly “Häxan”, but rather “en rosglitterkonfekthäxa” (a rosy-glitter-confection-witch).

That said, even though I’m getting something different, it’s still quite lovely! Candied rose petals, berries drizzled with golden honey, nibbled on a soft bed of moss, sugar-sweet, unabashedly pretty. It’s the ruffled and laced and beribboned fairy godmother, vanity glamour magic, the kind where you wave a wand and a ballgown appears, where you gesture and flowers spring up beneath your feet.

Soft things made strategic: looking-glass spells, prettiness as power, and potent magic. The preparation is the spell itself - sugar-glazed roses, berry-stained fingers, green things plucked from the forest, wild air lingering on her fingers. Beauty magic deployed with intent, strength dressed in sweetness and long, lingering kisses (and flowers and confections and tulle and tiaras and a sparkly wand.)

Spellbound
The open is a startling blend of the expected (apricot-and-suede osmanthus) and unexpected (spicy liquorice). It has a definite “cozy witch’s home” vibe, even though it isn’t witchy in the traditional fragrance sense.

After 20 min the liquorice fades and some gentle rose and moss enters. At this stage it’s nice but not particularly special, and I make a “meh, not full bottle worthy” mental note.

BUT THEN…

The base kicks in and I. Am. Hooked.

The witch is all loved up, and it’s gentle and romantic and alluring: remnants of osmanthus mix with floating musk and an absolutely incredible softly glowing amber. I don’t know what magic Heretic used to conjure that amber, but it’s intoxicating and I want to bathe in the stuff.

Full bottle, here I come.

Protection starts moderate and fades to intimate. As with many of Heretic’s scents, it isn’t especially long lived (around 5-6 hours). Gender is bewitched lover.

rosy coconut oil...
To think I saw osmanthus and oakmoss and nearly blind bought this... Close call of the year.

I dislike margarine and this smells like a margarine lid left too close to a burner, so the plastic is melting and the plasticky margarine itself is liquefying into grease. Bizarre... others aptly name this vibe "coconut". LOL.

Rose is here and it's a little peppery (especially paired with the oakmoss) but otherwise indelicate and unremarkable, constantly battling with the greasy coconut. It all smells kinda cheap and it's nothing like what I expected. I always feel like I need to shower again after wearing this, that warm greasiness makes me uncomfortable.

Eventually the rose and oakmoss disappear and we're left with amber and coconut oil. I don't understand this one. I love osmanthus and I'm not getting any part of it here.

I love the idea of this and the notes sound amazing, so I'll retest it in another few months... I'm glad others are enjoying it and getting the right vibe. I'll continue to keep Nosferatu close instead.

Soft Yellow Sticky Floral
Ordered Heretic’s “Season of the witch discovery set” simply to see what HÄXAN smelled like and it’s a very sweet almost sticky honey like scent with the osmanthus being the most prominent note to my nose? It reminds me of something sweet like licorice mango guava? candy if it even exist? (I don’t think it does but overall it’s an alright pretty scent, I could see a grown women in her late 40s wearing this :)

The witchiest rose preserved in amber
I do love a good rose from Heretic, big fan. Häxan, in my opinion, is simply next level: it is a concoction of enchanting velvety osmanthus in the opening, followed by a fresh rose, embedded and immortalized in fossilized amber. The scent is simply addictive, you could say "bewitching" even. Many witch-themed fragrances take the "witch in the woods" route, this one is different. This is ancient high priestess performing magic rituals in the name of her goddess in a golden temple. Warm, alluring, powerful.

I kept seeing ads for this, so I sampled. Was expecting osmanthus, got acrid rubber instead.

Alluring blend of Osmanthus and rose, being suprisingly sweet for being such a “witchy ritual” fragrance, smells like a love spell

Massively amber on my skin - I don’t really get much else. Wish the rose (or any of the other notes, honestly) was stronger. A bit bitter.

Häxan reminds me of a mystical ritual in the woods. No mainstream, no compromises. It develops beautifully on the skin and lasts incredibly well!
