a Modcloth dress on fire

Peak pixie dream girl Peter-Pan collared Zooey Deschanel ModCloth dress, honey-apricot-jasmine preciousness, infantile heliotrope Alice & Olivia floral babydoll cast-offs set alight, smoldering in the gutter. It wasn't a cleansing fire, not a redemptive flame. Sort of like a nasty garbage bin blaze, destroying evidence of your cutesy, kitchsy crimes. Embezzling from a cupcake boutique, or stealing someone's vintage typewriter collection, or you did an identity theft or two to afford your overpriced mason jar cocktail with artisan bitters obsession. Some real twee shit. A burnt-out, acrid sweetness "like ew gross" scratch-n-sniff sticker layered atop already barfy one, something bad compounding something worse.

Sensual, smoky, and beautifully dark

I got this as a sample with my order of the Nosferatu perfume from the same house. As soon as I opened the box and realized it had been sprayed with Midnight Toker, I was entranced. After spraying it, all I could think about was how this fragrance would become my future signature scent for going to the goth club- in fact, this perfume is incredibly reminiscent of the smells I have experienced in said club that probably comes from the smoke machines being used!

Midnight Toker starts out spicy with the clove and cypriol, it definitely jumps at you. I would say that I can detect some kind of leaf-like note right there in the beginning, it's almost fresh, but it's only there for a split second. Other than that, the notes I detect the most (I believe) is the birch tar and the tobacco, but the vanilla definitely adds a strong sweetness to it all and elevates it. Can't say I sense any of the mid notes but I do think the jasmine has some presence if I really try and focus on sensing it.

This scent is really sensual, and incredibly intoxicating in my opinion. It's just so smoky and really feels like a dark, dim-lit room with a femme fatale or casanova sitting in the middle, with a cigarette in their hand. Very unisex imo, just an overall pleasure. As for the longevity, I sprayed this perfume around 15:30 or so, and it started getting weak around 18:40. It turned into a vanilla skin scent at 22:31 (could only sense it by pressing my nose against my skin), and then it "disappeared" like maybe 1-2 hours after that. So it was mostly strong for like 3-4 hours, and then started setting down...it's definitely not an extremely long-lasting scent. Overall I'm not too bothered by it's longevity, although it'd be nice if it was more potent. I will buy a full bottle when I am able to, anyhow!

Tobacco? Check.

Clove? Check. Apricot? Check. Ok, I didn't expect something so great from Heretic and I'm even more surprised! I thought I was over this brand, but this has my attention! It's sexy! It's lowkey vampiric but now in a Interview-with-the-Vampire flamboyant way, more like something you could smell in True Blood or at the Titty Twister. It's hypnotic and somehow gave me gender envy. Haha. Let me look like this scent!

Mysterious hot stranger in a dark corner of a bar

This is the strongest Heretic scent I smelled. It opens quite with a smoky tobacco, even made me cough. There is the sweetness from vanilla coming through as soon as the smoke settles. The spice from cloves is also coming through the smoke. I don't smell labdanum much, but it's probably supporting tobacco in the background. The charred quality of birch tar reminds me of No 23 by Fischersund but the tar here is much milder.

This is a scent you could smell as you pass by a mysterious hot stranger who sits in the dark corner of a dim lit bar.

Overall, a very pleasant warm, smoky and sweet scent, but it is very powerful and not a blind buy.

Tobacco. Bomb.

This is a very intense smoky tobacco scent. My older sibling actually purchased a sample of this and while they are typically a fan of stronger woodier scents this was even too much for their nose. Shockingly, I found myself really enjoying this scent. It is an extremely heavy tobacco fragrance but I find the vanilla note really grounds it and keeps it from being too overwhelming.

This is nothing like any of the fragrances I currently have in my collection and I'm having a lot of fun with the different layering possibilities here! Not to mention that this also has some insane longevity; I sprayed this at about eight in the morning and it's currently about to be nine at night and I can still smell it on my skin.

Overall I think this is a really unique, mysterious and beautiful scent! I'm exited to try out more from Heretic seeing as these more alternatives fragrances seem to be their trademark.
