A Smoother Voyage
I visited a Macy’s in New York City with a friend recently and was looking at fragrances and talking about some familiar ones to consider.
Because of the employees' aggressive sales tactics, I purchased nothing. However, the sales team sprayed three fragrance samples that piqued my interest.
Bottled Marine, the latest fragrance (at the time of this review) in the Hugo Boss Bottled line, is the first of the three fragrances.
----
The Opening is apple and mint, which is identical to Nautica Voyage.
The mid notes are where things divert slightly. The smell of sage is more noticeable than cinnamon. Combined with the patchouli and cashmere wood base note, the fragrance is smooth, fresh, and sweet for the entire duration of the scent.
Overall, the fragrance is a soft and masculine touch. However, more notable is the significant relaxation effect. Mint, sage, patchouli, and cashmere wood all have stress or anxiety-reducing effects.
----
Hugo Boss Bottled Marine has above-average performance for an eau de toilette.
The sillage and projection are average. This will not break doors open with fanfare to announce a person's presence, but a second person passing by or entering their personal space should notice the fragrance.
The longevity of the fragrance was about eight hours. This is an excellent performance for a warm-weather eau de toilette under normal circumstances, as that will get a person through an entire workday or an evening event without a respray.
----
In terms of social usage, Bottled Marine is a fragrance that is wearable to any person (regardless of age) in most situations without serious scrutiny.
If longevity in cooler weather is a sign, Bottled Marine is a fresh fragrance useable throughout the year. This could allow a person may stand out during the winter months when people switch to spicy or gourmand notes.
Bottled Marine can work as a solid date night fragrance, but there is a proviso for first dates. Using the fragrance may trigger a memory of another man, such as a parent, sibling, or ex-lover. Such memories can lead to a mood shift depending on how the person's date associates the fragrance.
That said, the best situation to use Bottled Marine is during a leisurely moment. Whether you are enjoying the cool waves on a beach, reading a captivating book outside, or getting ready to rest, Bottled Marine enhances those moments thanks to the relaxation notes that are prominent in the fragrance.
For the same reasons as leisure, Bottled Marine can also excel in a demanding office environment.
----
Hugo Boss Bottle Marine is a solid fragrance. It smells pleasant and smooth, and it is typical of many fresh summer fragrances. The relaxation vibe is also undeniable.
However, for anyone looking for a unique summer fragrance, or wants a fragrance that stands out from the crowd, Bottled Marine would be a waste of money.
Even if someone likes the fragrance and does not care about uniqueness, a comparable fragrance is available for less than a third of the price — and that is with Bottled Marine being at a reasonable retail price, which is under $100.00 for a 100 ml bottle.
For these reasons, I can see Bottled Marine going to the discount racks within a year, where it may shine as a hidden gem.
However, if you are looking for a fragrance that has a similar profile to Nautica Voyage, but with better longevity, or simply a fragrance that is a good option for calming down stress and anxiety, Bottled Marine is a worthwhile purchase.
