Body Bag or Pillows?
I obtained a small bottle of Kenzo 7:15am IN BALI out of curiosity from a discounter (hence, scent unsniffed), and after several wearings, I have to say that I'm not really smitten with it. I say this because it seems as though I am alone, given all of the glowing reviews I've seen.

To my nose, BALI seems a bit off somehow. It may be that the orchid and fruit are imparting a slightly sour cast to the vanilla, and that may very well have been intended by the perfumer as an olfactory effect, but unfortunately it reminds me somewhat of the endless catalogue of bad synthetic sandalwood vanilla frags.

I should say that, on a good day, I find this perfume rather pleasant to wear, albeit not that exciting, and I do always perceive its synthetic cast--it's just that on a good day I don't mind that so much. I suppose that since this is a limited edition travel issue to be sold at duty-free shops at airports to tourists on their way to vacations in far away exotic places, BALI is supposed to convey the calmness one feels while lying on a beach having left all one's worries behind back home. So it's not really supposed to be a high-energy, revolutionary scent.

Rather oddly, every time I see the image on the bottle, before having focused, it looks like a bodybag to me. On closer examination, it proves to be some pillows on a bed. And maybe that's a good metaphor for the contents of the bottle as well.

Is Bali not so...
I think to myself after testing this fragrance.
At first, I didn't want to test it - it was an addition to a test package.
I simply expected "humid".
Well, I've never been to Bali and have never really looked into Bali either.
Eyes closed, nose open, and go:

Oh and oh, not at all humid and overly floral as I expected, the top note is quite subtle.
So I kept sniffing and didn't throw the sample away right away.

Hmmh, fine and getting finer, a blend of the heart and top notes with a slight depth, the origin of which I can't really grasp.
For me, it's a wonderfully non-humid, delicate, slightly fruity, non-vanilla vanilla scent.
Very close to the skin and warm, non-sillage.
Anyway, for me, it's simply a warm cozy scent, a home-with-me-and-book scent.
So very subjective.

Nice, simple holiday scent
Morning in Bali, at 7:15 AM.
Hmm… isn’t Bali one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world?
Hm… I should first complain, because I want to go on vacation again…
*complain* *sigh* *complain complain*

But: why is the fragrance actually called 7:15 AM? Does it smell different later in Bali? And besides, if I were on vacation there (or anywhere else), I wouldn’t get up at 7 in the morning??

But anyway, I was actually only interested in this fragrance because of its name, and I got the chance to test it. Well, let’s see….

The scent:
The fragrance starts sweet, as you can smell the beautiful jasmine. Then there’s the also pleasantly fragrant passion fruit, adding a fruity and another sweet scent. The grapefruit is also present, albeit only slightly, yet you can sense its light, citrusy note.
Barely two or three minutes have passed, and you can already smell the vanilla, which makes the scent more powdery; the orchid (but to be honest, it just smells a bit floral to me, I can’t say if it really smells like orchids) gives off a slightly stuffy scent, but this remains more in the background, as the sweet notes from the jasmine and the fruity scents are still very prominent and even become more intense for a while.
The sweetness can occasionally come off as a bit artificial, but it still smells good, so it doesn’t bother. Over time, the vanilla becomes stronger, and the fruity and floral notes are still detectable for a while.

Longevity and sillage:
The longevity is about five to six hours, which is rather average, but you can always reapply.
The sillage is a bit reserved, but can still be caught by someone nearby. Unfortunately, the fragrance radiates less and less over time and quickly loses its intensity. But,… as mentioned, you can always reapply.

The bottle:
At first glance, the bottle reminded me of the fragrances that were briefly available at Aldi last year. So, a simple, rectangular bottle with an image inside. However, this bottle has a dynamic line and also offers a nice image inside. The cap is cylindrical and bronze-colored, sitting on an orange neck. Everything is nicely done.

So, 7:15 AM in Bali is a scent that could definitely be associated with something holiday-like. It simply smells casual and light and creates a pleasant atmosphere. I believe that for most people, it will just be a sweet-fruity perfume that doesn’t stand out from the crowd. While that’s true, it still smells nice.

It’s a fragrance that fits well in spring and summer and could be used for everyday wear or leisure. As a holiday scent, it is also very usable. For going out, it’s quite nice, but perhaps a bit weak and inconsequential for that.

Despite being labeled as unisex, I find the scent very feminine, as it contains sweet notes and passion fruit, which is more commonly found in women’s fragrances. Therefore, I would particularly recommend that women test this fragrance if they are looking for a casual, sweet scent that can be worn well in leisure.

7:15 AM. Honestly… I’m going back to sleep, good night!

Setting the Alarm
My girlfriend loves Bali and constantly raves about her trips there.
So I had to test 7:15.

If it smells so enticing there, I would also make the long journey and set my alarm for 7 AM to not miss the special 7:15 scent.
Even as a passionate late sleeper, I stretched my head out of the window to indulge in this delightful fragrance.

I am greeted by a full, yet non-sticky vanilla sweetness that is brightened by jasmine.
The scent is not winter warm - rather, it is sun warm.
The orchid blends in finely and elegantly, with a fruity hint of passion fruit.
One might think of the lush exotic vegetation or colorful, aromatic markets.
7:15 is full of life - but not loud or restless.
No, it speaks of serenity and peaceful tranquility.

The scent will help my girlfriend while packing her suitcase - and she will set the alarm for 7:15.

Sunbeams, Warmth, Bali: The Name Fits Perfectly
How I would love to buy this fragrance again. And see if it still fascinates me as much. Because actually, I thought 20 years ago during the first test that such a scent was far too sweet, too much vanilla, too many flowers (Frangipani?), too intense. But this fragrance was wonderful, as it was in good balance with lightness, freshness, sun on the skin. And of course, a lot of Bali vibe. Because, just like my other all-time favorite Un Jardin apres le Mousson, the name fits perfectly and immediately evokes wonderful emotions.

Fruity floral scent on a powdery sweet base. What might sound mundane here is a successful rounded fragrance thanks to the light acidity.

Uncomplicated and beautiful. Delicate floral notes on creamy, semi-sweet vanilla. I think it even works in the heat. A bit too feminine for me.

The most beautiful Kenzo in this series. Light florals rest on a gentle bed of unsweetened, slightly green vanilla. Not as green as Madagascar.

Rather feminine, reminds me a bit of Sun by Jil, a trip down memory lane.
