Aquaman would wear this!
Admittedly, a steep thesis.
I'm not talking about the blond rag-tag Aquaman from the comics of my childhood, but the action Aquaman from the latest films who looks like Jason Momoa. A fragrance with the robust aura of oceanic spice and a power that probably projects underwater and can still be smelled even after a dive lasting several hours. No, I'm not exaggerating, I swear a hundred million times!

If there really was any hype about the Kenzo Homme EdP, it completely passed me by. When I tested it in stores, none of the Kenzos have really impressed me yet. But I'm all the more fascinated by this one.

The opening is really powerful and rustic. For me, it feels as if the fragrance grabs you by the collar and looks deep into your eyes to ask: "Are you strong enough for this aroma?". Either you look away intimidated and quickly reach for AdG or D&G LBEE with pee in your eyes. Or you can withstand the stare and be rewarded with a respectful nod and an elegant and stable fragrance with a distinctive patchouli note. I perceive the stated leather as very soft and rather subtle. I also imagine a hint of fruit, but nothing citrusy. More like an exotic dried fruit, fig or something, but there are finer noses than mine to identify this better.

The aforementioned longevity is really remarkable, easy eight to ten hours, with a strong projection and sillage in the first two to three hours. More than two sprays are neither necessary nor useful. The bottle, well...let me put it this way: it's better not to lift the bottle by the lid. The design idea as such is of course appropriate and understandable.

Basically, Kenzo is a refreshing change, at least in the context of aquatic designer fragrances. My association here is not so much the Mediterranean with its fine sandy beach, but rather a rugged bay in the Southeast Asian Pacific. Thanks to its power and spice, it can be worn all year round, both casually and for formal occasions. I find it extremely versatile, but also polarizing. Definitely outstanding!

Quentin Bisch and Akigalawood again
Very good fragrance. Quentin Bisch continues to create formulas where Akigalawood becomes the star of the overall profile. Bois Imperial and Ganymede being the best in show, I can now put Kenzo Homme EDP 2022 as the designer/more reachable alternative to the former 2.

That patchouli note you see there, is Akigalawood. It is much more than just patchouli of course, it is synthesized from patchouli essential oil, but has a rich black pepper facet as well as a clean oud profile - very abstract note that many noses are not even used to it, it's a Givaudan captive, which means it is not widely used and offered only for Givaudan perfumers, which means Akigalawood makes a fragrance smell unique "today". In 10 years it can become public and we can experience it much more to the point that it becomes boring. So this EDP is one to enjoy today while it lasts. And it is very much enjoyable at that. Much more than the Intense EDT I think...

The EDP flanker is quite similar to the Intense EDT original, but differences are clear. The EDT has somewhat lactonic, somewhat green fig notes and a prominent Calone/Cascalone-like seawater-watermelon note. I always assumed it is Calypsone, which is a new generation aquatic ingredient, and safe to say some people perceive it as raw or rotten eggs, freshly washed dish/washer steam - that I also understand how that is perfectly making sense, knowing the seaweedy breeze on a humid day always made me think of raw eggs too. Safe to assume the seawater note in this EDP is also Calypsone, but not as prominent as the EDT.

The EDT also has a strange vibe, which I can only describe with a color - grey with blue shade. The EDP feels more refined, the leather and Akigalawood takes center stage, aquatic weirdness with fig note less prominent, hence the increased similarity to Ganymede and Bois Imperial.

So all in all, I liked the EDP much more than the EDT, it will smell unique to people who haven't smelled any other Akigalawood fragrances (which is, most people). Women who are familiar with Miu Miu - Miu Miu fragrance will definitely pick up the same black peppery patchouli spicyness.

Faithful companion
Kenzo Homme is a really interesting fragrance for me.

I can still remember the first time I smelled it. We were in a bar with friends and I kept thinking to myself that someone smelled incredibly good. The smell was almost addictive. And the very distinctive sillage made it easy to tell who was wearing the fragrance. So I went and asked directly which fragrance it was. The next day, I ordered it straight away and, bang, I had a new faithful companion.

I find it difficult to describe this fragrance. But for me, at that moment, it was as if I didn't want to smell anything else. Fresh on the one hand, mystical on the other, but definitely comforting.

For me a top fragrance with a top price-performance ratio.

I’ve compared this one to the EDT Intense…
… and the EDP won my vote, hands down.

You can definitely tell that they are in the same bloodline, but the EDP has a smoother, darker feeling richness to it. Don’t get me wrong, they both smell VERY similar, but the EDP is done much, much better. The sharp “edge” that EDT intense shouts out is rounded out and softened, but the projection, sillage, and longevity are not affected at all. This is much easier to wear, while maintaining the uniqueness of this line. It is definitely not guilty of being a “main stream designer scent”.

As I said above, performance is GREAT. Projecting 3ft+ in radius while leaving a sillage trail that points directly to the wearer, and lasting 10+ hours. If you want longevity, this one is no slouch.

The issue with this one is going to be that people either love it or hate it. It’s either perfect, or hideous. I haven’t seen a tester anywhere, so I blind bought it. I can definitely understand WHY it is this way. It’s because of its uniqueness. People say they want something different. This is definitely different. Are you READY to experience this uniqueness though?

It’s got a “greener” feeling freshness, but it’s not “green”. Not soapy or blue. It doesn’t go with the “tropical island” advertisements that promote it, either.

I get a fresh, slightly green woodiness, and it get better in the drydown. As it dries, it becomes darker and richer. The drydown is where it shines. It speaks out with confidence, but isn’t self absorbed. If I compare it to its EDT Intense brother, I say that the EDP is the older brother that has already succeeded, but doesn’t tell everyone about his success. You can just “feel” that he is able to do whatever he wishes. He doesn’t need reassurance, he has been there, done that.

Not everyone is going to like him, but that doesn’t matter, because he is going to do what he does, regardless.

Complex leathery aquatic
This is really nice throughout for different reasons. Its not very linear on my skin like some people would suggest. The opening is quite a blast, but after about 5-10 min it settles into this quite beautiful leathery aquatic. It does remind me quite a bit of Ganymede, but like if Ganymede had a “sport” flanker. Its much easier to wear, less minerally and fresher, but after about 4-5 hours or so that Ganymede vibe fades and i get this sweet and sour candy type of smell. It reminds me of how the black currant combines with the cannabis note in DesirToxic. This is some really high quality juice, very unique and long lasting for a designer. Its also quite cheap. I only payed 54€ for 60ml.
Performance is quite solid also i detect it on my skin for about 10 hours or so.

Very good! Edt intense+Akigalawood. Reminds me of Ganymede. Mineral-leather-patchouli vibe with this fruity-marine accord of the EDT intense

A well made perfume. Long lasting on the skin, even better when sprayed on clothes.
Sillage is equally good.

It's pretty basic blue with a light leathery aspect. Nothing special, but nothing offensive. Somewhat youthful and synthetic. It's fine.
