One of the best blind buys of my life!
I have to admit that it has been about 3 years now that I have been eyeing the Edp Kenzo Amour and Kenzo Flower without buying either of them. What is the reason for that?
I always liked one of them more than the other alternately, and since I already have so many powdery scents in my collection, I somehow felt I had to choose and only buy one from Kenzo. Then there were my friends, who didn’t make the decision easy for me. One side was clearly for Kenzo Amour, as it supposedly had more of a "baby" vibe (I have a baby scent weakness :D), while the others said Kenzo Flower was "the fresh diaper" while Amour was more like the full** diaper.
Outraged, I went another 3 years pondering, sniffing both in every drugstore, without any results.
In the EDP Flower, I constantly felt something was missing. It was indeed very powdery and delicate... but just too green. Especially on my skin, which almost absorbs the powdery notes in fragrances and then only exudes green notes.
And then two months ago... there was this bargain online. I had read too few comments on Parfumo and Fragrantica, the fragrance pyramid confused me because I wasn’t sure how I would cope with incense and jasmine, whether the rose would smell like grandma... And yet I took the plunge.
What can I say? The Kenzo Essentielle has replaced my instant magic from Guerlain every other day :)
I love it, my boyfriend loves it, I have rarely been approached so often about a fragrance.
Flower Essentielle starts off green, and you immediately have the Flower EdP in the back of your mind. However, just two minutes later, notes mix in that are much more original and have excited me!
My jasmine horror thankfully did not come true, at least not in the penetrating form one knows from the Lush store or the tea shop. It is wonderfully woven and complements the vanilla superbly, which has finally made the compromise possible for me: as gourmand and powdery as Amour, but at the same time as fresh and delicate as Flower!
Flower Essentielle has a spiciness that makes this scent extremely interesting, as it doesn’t get directly shoved into the "cute" drawer. No, it almost clashes with a note that I might call cinnamon? However, the cinnamon haters among us need not worry: nothing sticks out unpleasantly here, pushes itself forward, or takes over.
Musk gives the scent a powderiness despite its spiciness, as one knows from the other two Kenzos, but the incense adds much more depth and makes this scent, along with hawthorn, appear more mature. Not old, but feminine instead of girlish.
The rose smells very familiar; you have smelled it in many formulations that have helped such perfumes break through.
Here are the key points again:
1) Bottle: Very beautiful, the classic from Flower :) Definitely an eye-catcher in the cabinet.
2) Sillage: For a green-sweet-spicy-powder scent, really quite decent. The person next to me definitely notices it. At least ;) if I spray just one spritz too much on my wrist, it’s about as if I sprayed it directly into my nostril :D
3) Sensational 10 hours during the day plus the whole night and the morning after (though just a light trace left)
Conclusion: If something was missing in the EdP Flower, you might find it in the Essentielle. If you found Flower from the floral-powdery type annoying and possibly even worse with Amour, you shouldn’t expect too much from the Essentielle: you can definitely smell the degree of similarity of the fragrances. For me, one of the best perfumes from the house of Kenzo, with Amour and Flower EDP sharing second place.
I believe that all Instant Magic fans who are currently mourning this scent (production has been discontinued) should definitely smell the Flower Essentielle. It is of course a different scent, but it goes in a similar direction except for the spicy note, which one can definitely appreciate (I otherwise hate spicy scents and orientals). Shalimar fans might also like the Essentielle.
So that’s it from me again, I hope this description has helped you :)
