A noticeable increase in quality
La Rive has always been known for its affordable dupes and is an established brand in this area. For a long time, however, La Rive fragrances had to contend with a number of problems, such as a strong alcoholic note, poor shelf life and miserable bottles.
The first La Rive fragrance I bought, La Rive Cabana, had exactly these problems. However, if you then compare it with La Rive Colossus, you will see that La Rive has improved a lot in terms of quality over time.
Enough with the preliminaries, let's get to the fragrance: Colossus starts with a fresh apple-mint note and the vanilla and tonka bean are already perceptible in the opening, giving the fragrance a certain powderiness.
The parallels to the model Eros by Versace are clearly recognizable, although my impression is that the opening of Eros is a little more "explosive".
Over time, the fresh notes recede and the vanilla note becomes more prominent.
The sillage is moderate, i.e. you can perceive the fragrance from a distance, but it is definitely not room-filling. I would also say that the original is also slightly stronger here.
Lasting power is around 6-7 hours.
The bottle is extremely successful considering the price: The cap snaps on comfortably and firmly, the bottle is made of sturdy glass and the design looks simple and timeless.
Conclusion: With the Colossus, La Rive proves that they are placing increasing emphasis on quality and one can only hope that La Rive will continue to pay attention to this in future fragrances. So if you are looking for an inexpensive and successful alternative to Eros, you should take a closer look at Colossus!
