Distant Wave La Rive

A surprisingly fresh and enjoyable fragrance with a clear Davidoff Cool Water / Green Irish Tweed / General Soapy Fougere style formula.

It opens crisp, minty and aquatic, then settles into a clean, slightly soapy freshness with some green and woody accords. It feels refreshing, easy to wear and particularly well suited to warm weather.

A nice bonus is the presence of several plant-derived botanical ingredients, including lemon peel oil, lavender oil/extract, geranium flower oil, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, juniper/cedar oil and Atlas cedar oil/extract. These botanical materials fit the fragrance possibly reinforcing its fresh, herbal, minty and woody character. There is nothing chemical about it does not feel like some sort of cheap mess like other fragrances in the same price range. I guess that could be related to the fact that the manufacture uses both organical and synthetic materials.

Overall, a pleasant fresh, clean and masculine yet possibly unisex scent for anyone who enjoys the classic aquatic style which is primarily lavander, geranium and some dry woods.

Longevity is below average, despite it being quite potent in the beginning. I guess you can get about 2-5 hours from this. But after 2-3 hours it becomes weaker.

As someone who owned Cool Water I can reccomend this. This is one of the best fragrances you can buy for the price.

La Rive has created a very good Cool Water clone with this fragrance, which, however, comes across as significantly mossier and woodier than the current formulation from Davidoff.
Personally, I find Distant Wave worlds better than the current original as it resembles the vintage Cool Water more and has an old-school vibe.
Additionally, Distant Wave in the drydown also resembles another beautiful fragrance, namely Original Vetiver by Creed.
Overall, you get the opening of vintage Cool Water and the drydown of Original Vetiver.
This combination is really well done, simply top!!
Longevity is average to good but still needs to be tested in summer.
6 hours of longevity and 1-2 hours of good projection should be achievable.
Here, you can comfortably overspray to get even more performance out of it.

Conclusion
Very nice fresh, mossy, and soapy fragrance, highly recommended for the price.

On Thursday evening, I discovered a new La Rive at DM. I sprayed the fragrance on a test strip and took it with me in the car. On Friday, I kept smelling it during the drive. I still like the scent. On Saturday, I spontaneously stopped by DM and bought the fragrance.
Initially, I wasn't exactly sure what the scent reminded me of. But a previous reviewer enlightened me. It's the smell of old school Cool Water with a hint of green notes. Maybe a bit herbaceous... .
For just under 8 euros, you get a pleasant DNA that is perfect for spring and summer and with which you can't go wrong.

I tested these three "cheap" cool water twins...
Aspen for Men Cologne
Absolute Blue
and this one Distant Wave

I must admit I find it extremely hard to tell them apart in a blind scent test, they all smell 95% like the OLD original!
However, I noticed that Distant Wave has the longest longevity!
Aspen and Absolute Blue are only perceptible from very close after an hour...
Distant Wave even lasts 2 hours :D
On clothing, each lasts about 3-4 hours...

I find all three better than the current original Cool Water!
Since the sillage of the current original is also very poor, you can go straight for the twins and save money; moreover, the twins come closer to the original Cool Water from back in the day as they are all greener/mossier!

The old Cool Water resembled Green Irish Tweed by Creed more!

For the swimming pool, gym, sports, or beach, I find these cheap ones very good because after the water/sweat you won't smell anything anyway... then you can use something intense after showering without still smelling like Cool Water since it just doesn't stick to the skin for 12 hours...

Distant Wave feels like freshly washed, cool linen sheets on a summer night.
Like a cool shower after the sauna, like a swim in the lake after a day in the sun.
Like a frosty sunrise in winter, or a long-awaited sip of water after hard work. Like a cool breeze from the sea when you're seeking shade under trees to escape the heat.

I am truly fascinated by this scent.
No hint of sweet, heavy dullness, no undertone that smells like fear sweat, no oppressive, suffocating notes, nothing of the sort.

It's like waking up after a restful sleep, full of energy and confidence for the new day.

And if that wasn't enough praise:
I recently visited my parents for several days, and my mom was quite surprised, "What always smells so good here?" - "Well, me with my €6 Polish perfume!"
So if that doesn't say it all, then I don't know what does.
