Sample worthy
There's something dark & dirty about Lancome Magie (La Collections). She's not for a modern girl, but for a classic woman.

Magie opens unisex but dries femme. I like Magie, but I don't care for the way the jasmine develops on my skin and how the fragrance sweetens as it wears. I do like that quality in Cuir, I don't like it in Magie. I might be wrong, but I think it comes down to the relative amount of jasmine.

Ladies who love mysterious woody fragrances might just fall for the reissued Magie. I love sampling the reissued La Collections, and I applaud Lancome for resurrecting these fragrances and bring them to market. Magie doesn't speak to me in the same way that Lancome Cuir does. However, the entire line is sample-worthy!

Powerful and confident
I really enjoy the current formulation of Magie Noire by Lancome, so when I discovered that there was another fragrance that came before it, I ordered a sample almost straight away.

Magie is one of those classics that really need to be brought back. The scent is heavy, powerful and reeking of confidence. It's quite a powdery scent, but not necessarily clean. I find it more animalic and slightly earthy. Magie tends to be rather sensual too, especially towards the drydown.

This fragrance smells relatively dark and seductive on my skin. There's also a subtle note that resembles dirty fuel, that I must admit, intrigues me greatly. It has obvious unisex qualities, a fragrance that would wear just as well on a man as it does on a woman.

Magie reminds me of Chanel No.22, however it's much dirtier and a tad more masculine. The opening is bitter in some ways, and also heavily concentrated in terms of aldehydes and musk. As it settles, the amber accord is more apparent, bringing to light a hint of beauty and superiority.

Before the drydown, Magie is at its most animalistic stage with a thick muskiness combined with unsweetened amber. I should also add that the sillage at this point is rather soft and intimate. So this is in no way a loud and offensive blend.

Despite the fact that Magie doesn't contain a leather accord, I think many women who adore leather-based scents will love Magie. It has a similar rough 'biker-chick' feel to it which I personally love. I'm very much taken with the drydown, which was a beautiful and smooth ambery incense blend, suiting a cold Winter's night perfectly. I highly recommend.

Magie a Magical Journey
Magie Conjours a esoteric mystery Opens with the darkest
and the most animalistic note of amber pure and unsweetened, Walking though a dimly lidded cave on a
nocturnal moment threads of Calligraphic Arabic verses
of gold Dangles with an Ethereal glow, Elusive jasmine
grows in the Rock's crevice elegantly grows on the on
the bare walls with sinuous beauty with it's leafy vines. I detect Civet in it's purest form adds to the
Dark Exotica of this scent Wisp of incense smoke pierces
though the utter darkness of the cave following the smoke until you saw where the smoke is burning from
a beautiful incense burner etched in the shape of a
dragon burns with the note of dry sandalwood, as the
incense burns your transfixed by the smoke dancing
revealing our Inner thoughts.

Magie is a dark beauty delighting in sensual pleasure
a bit of danger with Civet and meditation with amber.

The Magic of the Upsurge
Magic was the predecessor of the now reformulated Magic Noire. It was briefly revived a few years ago in the "La Collection" series by Lancôme, along with Cuir, Sikkim, and a few other earlier successes of this once-great perfume house. I even believe that the current formula comes very close to the original, if not identical, as the fragrance carries the charm of the 50s and 60s, which is not meant to be a devaluation, quite the opposite!
It has the euphoria, the class, and the opulence of the great fragrances that accompanied it for a few years: Jolie Madame, 1953, Fath de Fath, 1953, L'Interdit by Givenchy, 1957, Caleche by Hermes, 1961...
Great fragrances that are still loved and worn by wonderful women today.
Magic has not lost its magical allure.
I too felt helplessly surrendered to it when I smelled it for the first time.
An aldehydic top note, comparable to many of the aforementioned classics, announces the fragrance quite impressively. Neither fresh nor overwhelming, perfectly balanced. The heart note has more to offer: Violet and jasmine provide only a light floral note, which remains in the background; the main element is the amber. It dominates the fragrance for a long time and extensively.
It makes it animalistic, makes Dioressence look old in comparison, wild and untamed. The heart note has the power of two hearts.
The base has the soapy freshness of musk with a green, slightly woody background.
The longevity and sillage are predictably ka-boom.
Girls (and guys who like heavy classics)..., for this fragrance, you will sell your soul!

The 1.Lancôme's Magie
I didn't know for a long time that there was Magie.
Until the day I proudly presented my Hypnose "Hexenzauber" Elixir to someone, and she said... it reminds me of my childhood, of magic...
I interrupted her speech and immediately said; No, Magie Noire is from MY childhood, from '78, and not from yours, you are twice as old as I am--
No, Eva. Magie, from the fifties, belonged to your grandma.
Oops.
This will be something for me.
It smells so old... so dusty, like an old satin dress that can no longer be worn, it will disappear, collapse in on itself, decay.
I recognize light aldehydes from the top notes, which can have many variations between soapy and musty, and are unmistakable in so many old perfumes.
And then- come the sweet oriental jasmine and violet - lovely to excitingly floral.
And the opening is sensual amber and musk, not easy to describe, nor necessary, we know it as the skin-like fragrance base of several perfumes.
It is an EdP, with a very nice intensity. Today, EdP. Many years ago it was EdC and just as dark and intense.
With Lancôme, I have no doubt that something will smell off (until the completely new pink escapade, that is).
Perfumes are Lancôme's specialty and they are simply good, and definitely limited.
Only the truly obsessed must have it. Or, enchanted, witch, and ancestor. Others will manage perfectly well with available editions.

Surprisingly vintage for its creation time. Herbal-floral, well-balanced jasmine undertone, soft classic sandalwood base.

Wonderful! Chilled aldehydes, a lush floral bouquet, warm-sensual animalic notes on a beautiful sandalwood base. Enchanting elegance of yesteryear.

A delicate chypre. After a distinctly waxy aldehyde opening, it becomes cozy-soft. I hope I'm rating the right version here, as there's no date.

Herb-smelling floral chypre of sultry jasmine and velvety violets on soft sandalwood. Feels retro.

older sample: I smell powdery violet pastilles, hint of licorice. I like it! No rating due to the age of the sample. Regards + thanks to Mightynaf
