A simpler Black Opium
The name and the notes sound like a spiced coffee gourmand, but to my nose, this is mostly a Black Opium dupe. It does smell slightly spice, but I can't single out any saffron, pepper or the titular tonka bean, just a general warm spiciness.

I think most people reading this will know Black Opium, but for those who don't, I'd describe it as a coffee and vanilla scent with a very mainstream designer-esque, girly vibe. Even though any perfume snob will look down on it as basic, too sweet and not worthy of the Opium name, I love it.
Black Opium has a cool, crisp pear note in the opening and a blend of sweet white flowers in the heart, which are both absent in Cafe Tonka. The latter therefore comes across a little less girly, but it's still a sweet and feminine-leaning scent that even leans a little syrupy in the drydown. The coffee note is exactly the same as in the original, but slightly amped up. Same goes for the vanilla.

I sampled both fragrances together to compare them, and Black Opium is both more complex and smoother blended. Side by side, the difference in quality becomes noticeable.
Which doesn't mean this is bad, it's still an enjoyable scent! Maybe it's even preferable for those who prefer more realistic, simple gourmands. I personally don't, but I understand.

Washed.. Arabica.. Blend.. Roasted.. Undermatures..Trommelröstung.. huh?
Recently, we got a new coffee machine for the break room. The old machine finally gave up after 80,000 cups and several years - not least due to a lack of maintenance; everyone wants to drink, but clean and maintain, pah, not with us, "the water is always empty with me," "the maintenance is always wanting with me," everyone knows that, right? The clever salesman gave a brief introduction and then let us take turns sniffing a free bag of coffee beans - everyone fell into oohs and aahs with enthusiastic "delicious, aromatic, great" exclamations. I've always thought that coffee usually smells better than it tastes. And while the salesman enthusiastically discussed acidity, strength, roasting, Libera, and see title (yawn… I'm not a barista), my thoughts drifted to perfumes with coffee scents. Because I would like to have a coffee scent in my collection, but so far they have all been too sweet, too muckefuck, too flowery, but wait !! …. Café Tonka, I have had a decant of that for a long time, it was quite good, wasn't it?

At home, I searched the vegetable drawer of the fridge for my decant; I had almost forgotten about the scent. And at 6 degrees in the morning, a warm coffee scent is just right. So I’ll wear it the next morning.

Café Tonka starts with the finest coffee, aromatic and strong, pepper tingles a bit in the nose. There’s nothing floral here, just the finest mocha clouds surrounding me. After a short while, it sweetens with tonka bean, stronger and sweeter than I remembered and prefer. A splash of creamy cream in it would have suited me better. But thanks to Parfumo, I handle sweetness in scents better, and I find that this scent at least smells like coffee, which I can't say for many coffee scents. Sillage and longevity are in the medium range; due to the sweetness, I would recommend wearing it in the cool autumn times.

Mr. Pluto comes sleepily out of the bathroom, "it already smells like coffee in the hallway, did the machine overflow?" Well, the scent seems to be authentic. But I'm still searching; there must be something like a Cafe Crema - unsweetened and maybe with a splash of cognac or rum? Does anyone have tips?

Coffee with Vanilla-Caramel Syrup
~ Inspiration ~
I received a sample of "Café Tonka" from the lovely Serafina during a swap. Based on the scent notes, it probably wouldn’t have made it onto my wish list (I feared it would be too spicy-bitter for me).

~ Bottle ~
The simple glass bottle contains a brown liquid that fits well with the advertised coffee scent. Like most "Les Senteurs Gourmandes," it has a white label with the name of the perfume written in light brown.

~ Scent ~
Upon timidly spraying it, I was pleasantly surprised. Instead of roasted coffee beans, a sugar bomb hits me! A hint of coffee with creamy vanilla foam and liquid caramel instead of pepper and saffron.

~ Longevity ~
On my skin, it lasts about 5 hours (a bit longer on clothing and hair). 2-3 sprays are enough; otherwise, it becomes too sweet and potentially too overpowering.

~ Occasion ~
A light gourmand for the cooler days and evenings in autumn, winter, and spring (also suitable for the office).

~ Conclusion ~
It also reminds me of "Black Opium" by YSL. For true coffee fans, it’s probably way too sweet... but for those who enjoy variations with sugary syrup (caramel/vanilla), it should bring joy :)

Coffee, with Milk and Sugar
Ah, I haven't had a coffee scent under my nose for a long time. Since I personally drink more tea than coffee, I get to smell this wonderful scent rather infrequently. That's why I'm always curious when coffee appears in the fragrance pyramid of a scent and hope to be able to perceive this great aroma well.

Let's take a sniff…

The scent:
The fragrance immediately begins with a delicious and thus pleasant coffee scent with slightly spicy notes in the background, which seem a bit out of place with the coffee, but oh well.
Just a few moments later, the coffee or rather the scent becomes softer and more powdery, probably due to the tonka bean, which adds its sweet aroma and makes the scent sweeter.
The now sweet coffee somehow reminds me of the "taste" of Werther's Original candies.
Well, the scent doesn't change much after that, so by the end, you mainly smell coffee and sweet tonka bean, as the spicy notes recede into the background.

The sillage and longevity:
The projection isn't as strong as one might expect from a room that smells wonderful when coffee is being brewed. It's a pity, really, because the scent isn't bad and could have been stronger, especially since such fragrances fit better in autumn and winter.
The longevity is also only below average, lasting about five to six hours on me.

The bottle:
The Heeley-like bottle is cylindrical, has a thick glass bottom, and is filled with light brown fragrance liquid. On the front, there is a square label with the name of the scent on it. The cap is cylindrical and black/dark brown. Everything is quite okay.

Hmm, yes, aside from the slightly spicy beginning, I actually find this scent quite nice, even really successful if you like coffee fragrances. The weak sillage bothers me, as I believe coffee scents are more enjoyable on colder days, but this one could be used as an all-rounder, since I don't think it would be overwhelming in summer, at least if it doesn't get over 30 degrees.

For me, the scent has now become an everyday fragrance, suitable for both ladies and gentlemen. So, it's worth a try.

Well… with scents like this one, I really get a craving for coffee again… and I only have a coffee pod thing sitting around here, but whatever, that's better than nothing. Yes, I think I’ll go make myself some coffee now, it's perfect for this early hour,… and with milk and sugar (argh… how can anyone drink coffee black… especially without sugar?... iiihhh :D)

Stale Flowers
My girlfriend says: "It smells like stale flowers." I: "Not at all like coffee?" She: "No coffee I would drink." Certainly, her opinion influences my review, but even independently, I find the scent slightly irritating.

Yes, it is a coffee scent and somewhat sweet, but something just doesn't fit together for me; it's not harmonious with each other. Whether it's the amber or the saffron. I do love tonka bean! And saffron as well. But maybe not in this combination.
I even find Black Opium better.

It's not a freshly brewed, delicious coffee, but rather like old cold coffee next to an old bouquet of flowers.
Or even worse: old coffee that accidentally has a few drops of perfume in it. Definitely don't drink it, pour it out quickly.

For the price, you shouldn't expect too much, but it's not even a cheap smell, just simply inappropriate, unharmonious for my nose.

Great subtle and natural coffee scent. Not too sweet and without a vanilla overdose. Slightly spicy yet warm. Wearable every day.

The strong coffee does transition into a fluffy tonka,
but it's completely free of milky-sweet additions.
This could be my coffee grail!

The longer I wear the scent, the more it reminds me of Black Opium EdP. Am I the only one feeling this way?!

Strong coffee scent. Aromatic, robust, hot, just a bit sweet, with a slight spiciness. A cozy gourmand, now I want a men's cake...

Like Black Opium Extreme with a much more intense coffee note, making it more beautiful for me.
This is how I imagined BO - stunning.

The scent of coffee is in the air. It's not sweet enough for me personally. Like coffee that's been sitting on the burner too long. Dull-spicy-bitter.

Fancy a little coffee? Anytime, anywhere? How about a tonka praline? Can't be done? Yes, it can! With this fine scent! To me, it's tastier than BO!

Spicy-sweet coffee with clear parallels to YSL Black Opium, but without the headache-inducing jasmine and 3 pieces less sugar.
