Incredibly nice
I wasn't sure what to expect, given all the polarising reviews (on all the other forums) that Montale gets, when I bought this one. A lot of the positive reviews were from people whose reviews I trust and understand. And based on that alone, pretty much like most times, I jumped on this one. And boy was I surprised!

Straight to the point- this is an incredibly nice spicy-leather scent with a generous helping of saffron and ambergris. Very potent opening. Will easily offend people who are not into these types of perfumes. The initial citrus accord is very bitterish-spicy but very short lived so it's just fine. Black Pepper and Saffron are the two notes that dominate the life of this scent, in incredible depth. It doesn't smell exactly the same all the way. Different shades emerge as time goes by. The cardamom, something I'm not usually fond of, brings great depth here to the other spices ( I get traces of cloves, cinnamon and bay leaf) and the saffron accord. The leather here is very soft and smooth. Very polished and subtle (atleast on my skin). There's also a boozy vibe to the whole thing that, together with saffron, pepper, & leather kinda reminds me of Bentley Intense. (It is quite similar in terms of the overall vibe.) And beneath all this is, what, to me, feels like, really good quality Ambergris. It's salty, slightly sweet, with some ambery-floral nuances. And finally, the Oud. It's extremely subtle here. Not at all the dominant note. Just something like a catalyst of sorts, added to bring out certain facets in the other elements. It's there - slightly medicinal and dark - but more like a filter added in post-production. It just adds a certain vibe to the main theme. Projection, sillage, and longevity are all on the higher side.

All in all, beautiful. An incredibly nice spicy-leather scent with great depth and a classy vibe.

TF did you copy this?
OK I'm not claiming to be an expert on anything but I do have an extensive collection of leather fragrances. TF Ombre Leather 2018 is just like this. The 2016 version is no way close and far superior but it's interesting to see that this was released almost a decade earlier. Its a good price. Leather is smooth and the base supports it well. It's not a massive projector and the 2021 version has moderate performance. Just interesting to find another fragrance that is so comparable to others.

Leather "light"
The Aoud Leather from 2009 is the second leather fragrance in Montale's Oud line, alongside Oud Cuir d’Arabie. It is considerably more subtle than its older brother.

While Oud Cuir d’Arabie features a clean, radiant leather (like a new leather jacket), the leather in Aoud Leather is more of the musty variety - more like worn, ancient suede. With this, Montale now represents the opposite side of the spectrum of leather notes.

There is not much Oud to be sensed either. Unlike in Oud Cuir d’Arabie, it has been used very subtly here. Without knowledge of the pyramid and the name, one would not necessarily recognize it. Spices are also present, blending into the subtle picture. An inappropriate lemon freshness at the top annoys me a bit; but perhaps it is important to keep the leather from coming off as too rotten. A bit of amber rounds things off and adds a very subtle warming note. Additionally, the perfume is slightly sweet, which I personally do not like and raises questions.

I can well imagine that Oud Cuir d’Arabie was too pronounced and too extreme for many customers. Thus, a "Light" variant was needed. In this sense, Aoud Leather is indeed a successful perfume, embodying the understated note. I would not generally speak of elegance in a suede fragrance, but that is a matter of perspective.

Those who find Oud Cuir d’Arabie too exaggerated may enjoy Aoud Leather. Definitely suitable for fans of lighter suede fragrances.

The Little Brother of Tuscan Leather - No 2
After the shock of testing Black Aoud, I dared to try a Montale fragrance again, and from the very first second, I thought, wow, this is Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather, perhaps not quite as brutally smoky, but the opening and the further development are so similar that I have to call this a fragrance twin. The longevity may not be quite as high as TF Tuscan Leather, which often blooms again after a shower, but the price is also not that far above the pain threshold like with Tuscan Leather. The fact that it comes across a bit softer than TFTL is not so bad; not everyone needs the black knight's glove full on their olfactory organ. Compared to TFTL, it's almost a bargain price-wise, and I find the leather theme perfectly implemented and wonder about the rather modest rating so far. There is still room for improvement. By far not as overdone and artificial as Black Aoud. I was already afraid that Montale only offers those oriental chemical sledgehammers.
Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather is still a bit better, but Aoud Leather is very close.

So test it and see for yourself.

For me, the weakest Montal
Thanks to Hermessenz for the sample!

Recently, I have tested a lot from Montal, they all somehow smell similar in structure, they use different ingredients but the structure is always the same, so I already knew quite well what to expect when I sprayed the fragrance.
The scent starts with pepper, saffron, and a lot of bergamot, slightly fresh but overall a bit more spicy; unfortunately, this note gives me the impression that it only exists to pave the way for the Oud that follows.
Bam, as soon as you think that thought, the Oud comes out, mixed with cardamom and some indefinable spices, the spicy note from the top note becomes significantly stronger.
After about 1 hour, the base comes out, which, alongside the leather promised in the name, is unfortunately only present in very small amounts on my skin, and the amber emerges, which adds a smoky direction to the fragrance in addition to its spicy note.
Unfortunately, I have to say that I find the scent progression on my skin weak and boring; moreover, the perfume itches slightly and my hand turns a bit red.
The longevity is unfortunately not great either; I would estimate it at 3-4 hours.
So in the end, I can only give a rating of 60%, but you should test it; however, I would recommend spending your money on other Montal fragrances.

A relaxed, elegant light leather refreshed with citrus, cardamom and saffron.
Oud supports quietly.
Nice.

Reminds me of Oro 1920. Not quite there, but a decent spicy leather scent.

Authentic, well-balanced, medium-dark leather scent with fruity bergamot. Hardly any oud. Beautiful, aromatic-amber drydown!

Finally, a Montale that I like again. Relaxed leather scent with bergamot freshness and pepper. I want to sink into it.

Bergamot Leather. It takes too long for the latter to break through the persistent, piercing citrus. Then it’s too close to the skin.

A prime example of fine synthetic. Incredible clarity, radiance, and balance. One of the most beautiful leather notes. Great all-rounder!

This is a really cool, casual Montal. It doesn't hit you hard but comes with a calm leathery bergamot freshness and spicy notes.

For me, one of the lightest Montale scents.
You won't be knocked out right after the first spray.
