Sweet but falls short
This is called Tropical Wood, but it is only sweet Oud—masculine on me. To my husband it’s sweet floral on him. Neither works—wish it reversed!
The longevity is good, so is sillage. I smell slight pineapple. Nothing stands out to us.

Pulp of Tropical Fruits with Vanilla and Musk
My nose, curious and appreciating Montale as a brand for its long-lasting and niche fragrances, inhaled a sample of Tropical Wood deeply and repeatedly. It vaguely reminds me of a scent I had many years ago, I think it was called Ypno. So, TW's expression is already familiar to me from the past.
T W smells sweet, warm, fruity on me, and the ingredients come together to create a scent expression. It lasts on me for about 8 hours. I do not perceive leather or rose. It smells like pulp of tropical fruits with musk and vanilla, but all blended together. The violet adds a slight spiciness, which, however, gets lost in the sweetness. The feeling is that too much is flooding my nose at once. Sorry, I don't want to speak poorly of the fragrance, but it feels somewhat chaotic to me and thus overwhelmed by the ingredients. What is supposed to be the Wood in this fragrance? It does not reveal itself to my nose.
Test it for yourself; it is no longer an enhancement for my collection.

Synthetic-Tropical Fruit Mishmash
I would like to skip a lengthy introduction to Montale Tropical Wood and get straight to the fragrance description. Packed in a typical Montale bottle, one expects a fruity, summery scent with woody undertones in this blue-gold flacon. Montale is not among the most expensive niche brands (115€ for 100ml, 65€ for 50ml for Tropical Wood). The fragrance pyramid piqued my curiosity, so I got a sample.

The opening is very fruity with immediate spicy-woody undertones reminiscent of oud. The combination gives off a truly tropical, summery, and cheerful vibe, which unfortunately fades disappointingly after a short time. Whether the fruit in the opening is supposed to smell like passion fruit is debatable, as I have no comparisons. I can't really perceive pineapple. In the following minutes, Tropical Wood becomes more floral, subtly rosy, and sweeter. As the oud nuances slowly disappear, my nose detects unpleasant secondary scents that remind me of rubber. Really unpleasant and should not be in this fragrance.

After about 2.5 hours, the woody oud tones have completely vanished. In the base, sweet vanilla pushes more to the forefront and merges with the fully synthetic fruit mix, whose individual components are indistinguishable. The further development of the scent remains linear, sweet, and fruity.

For my taste, the fragrance leans more towards a feminine direction. The idea behind the scent, to combine tropical fruits with tropical woods from the agarwood tree (which primarily grows in Southeast Asia), from which oud is derived, is fundamentally interesting. In fact, Montale has succeeded well with the tropical opening. However, the woody note simply falls short for me; I would have preferred woody base notes instead of vanilla. This could have potentially countered the synthetic fruit better. Montale has by no means missed the theme, but the "Wood" has been neglected.

The longevity of TW is good at around 8 hours, with sillage on my skin being moderate. Nevertheless, I will not be purchasing a bottle; I had something better in mind, and in the end, it feels too feminine for me. It seems to me that the perfumer did not take the time to perfect this fragrance and released it prematurely.

Leather, Oud and Summer
... yes, exactly this combination I never expected to wear in summer.

However, Tropical Wood makes it possible, especially by adding rose and violet. The latter clearly dominates the entire fragrance for me.
The passion fruit remains surprisingly understated - just by studying the fragrance pyramid, I would have expected more. But this does not make the scent any worse; I just imagined it differently!

In the first 5-10 minutes, the violet-rose combination overwhelms me with a very authentically soapy smell. It feels like you have just washed your hands with a floral soap.
After these 10 minutes, the fragrance goes through a brief phase where it smells completely clean like freshly washed laundry.

After that, the fragrance really unfolds. The floral notes slightly recede, and leather, oud, and a bit of passion fruit come into play. Nevertheless, the clean rose-violet combination remains dominant, while the other notes merely resonate in the background.
As leather and oud stay subtly in the background, giving the fragrance only a woody, leathery, oriental touch, the character of the scent remains floral-clean.

I find it much more floral, but also actually fresher than expected.

The performance of the fragrance is impressive. It lasts several days on clothing, and on the skin, you can easily get up to 15 hours of full intensity.
The sillage is never overwhelming, so you shouldn't annoy anyone. In my opinion, the character of the fragrance doesn't allow for that at all.

I am really very positively surprised by this fragrance and feel that it runs a bit under the radar among the Montale scents.

Arabians Tonka in Summer?
Can leather, rose, and oud work in summer? Yes, if you also add a good dose of musk, violet, and a mix of various fruits.
I do love Arabians Tonka, but it is too "heavy" a scent for spring/summer. Tropical Wood has a similar base structure, but it refreshes with slightly floral notes and the mix of fruits, which I can't quite define, but passion fruit and pineapple could be close.
I would rate the longevity and sillage as slightly weaker than Arabians Tonka, but still very good - even after several hours.
I was pleasantly surprised by this Montale scent in a tropical way, and it definitely deserves to stay in my collection.

Multivitamin with an extra dose of tropical fruits and hairspray. Thick stuff, more for mild evenings than hot days.

Tropical fruits ...
wrapped in woody notes and a hint of oud.
Musk is the icing on the cake in the base.
Unusual...quickly annoying.

Tutti Frutti hairspray, with pleasant oud. It remains extremely Montale, but I will still wear it in summer :)

Summery Oudmazing version. Lovely fruit-oud cocktail. Too bad it doesn't have a stronger tropical note. A bit redundant. But nice.

The prominent rose feels light thanks to the fruits. Leather, oud, musk? Possibly in traces. Floral-heavy and quite strong for me ♀.
