A Sweet Ruby Red Booziness
I ran into The Red by accident. I was in Bologna to spend a pleasant weekend, and a famous chain of clothing stores was selling off everything because of the renovation of the premises. A few boxes were scattered on the perfumery shelf, and both The Red and Roberto Cavalli Uomo were still there. Without thinking about it and testing them, I took them and headed to the cashier. After getting into the car, I opened the packages when I left the shop. Red was the first, a splash on the hand, and immediately the interior of the car transformed into a refined Irish pub, with that atmosphere full of warm and boozy vibes. I can associate The Red with the friendly and reassuring embrace of dad, the sweet and heartfelt embrace of his favorite brother, or the solid and passionate embrace of a lover you cannot forget.
The Red belongs to sweet, warm, and woody families, with that retro touch reminiscent of the 80s. It takes off with a pleasant sugary combination of citron, sweeter than harder, blends with spicy nutmeg. As soon as the hesperidin aroma fades, a toasted shade of tonka exudes, along with greenish galbanum and an alcoholic touch of the cognac accord. Galbanum has an intense spicy green tinge, almost bitter and balsamic, with a freshness similar to pine. The presence of cognac is not intrusive. This alcoholic note only adds more warmth, aroma, and charisma.
A robust scent, which becomes sweeter when it fades. Initially, it vaguely resembles Invictus Eau de Toilette because of the slightly salty citrus fruits, but its sweetness makes it more pleasant. The scent takes you directly into the heart in a few minutes, but it does not change too much. However, purple leaves and clary sage give a fresher and more sparkling atmosphere to the whole composition. Here I get a rosy geranium mingles with the aromatic and watery edges of the silver sage and velvety violet.
The dry-down revolves around the mellifluous tonka and the sweet redolence of roasted beans that was detectable from the beginning, now it prevails. The base awakens with wood essences, patchouli, and leather sensuality and tenacity. I would say harmonious, pleasant, complete, and velvety, with manly but not sour notes. The patchouli is constricted while the leather is suede, smooth.
I don't feel the notes of leather nor the patchouli intensely. Instead, I even catch a nod of tobacco, which I consider incredibly appropriate for my taste. It is amicable and fantastic for a night out, especially for a carefree dinner or an evening of dating in autumn or winter. It will seem that you warm up. It is strong, with fantastic longevity, and projects a lot. At first, I was a little afraid to use it because of this remarkable sweetness. I thought it might come out too strong, but then, every time I wear it, I am showered with compliments, over and over.
I base the review on a 50ml bottle I have owned since January 2017.
