What memories can mean...
Fragrances are memories for many of us. Memories of certain times,
of certain people,
of certain situations...

For many of us, such scents are among the most beautiful, because does it have its reasons why one has special memories of them...

I also feel the same way, of course. In addition to the Hugo BossBottled EdT and Acqua di Giò EdT, there is a third fragrance that I already know from my youth, although I myself at that time still no perfumes used: Kenzo Pour Homme EdT.

I was allowed to get to know him (the Kenzo of 1991) as a teenager, namely in the summer of 2000, when a cousin of my best friend at the time wore this day after day and I always wondered as Obergrünschnabel, what on earth because always smelled so insanely beautiful on him.
I can therefore remember so well and exactly, because the fragrance has not let me go until today. And besides, there was in the said year the European football championship with me around the corner, so to speak (Belgium/Netherlands).

Of course, I "traveled" as an enthusiastic kicker (among other things, together with this a few years older acquaintance and his Kenzo) the few kilometers to the neighboring countries over and experienced the event there a few times live on site, even if we had a ticket only to a single game. But if it's only a stone's throw, then you go there even without a ticket, and just to experience the big picture.

And its Kenzo wooed me in the midst of all these colorful people there...
Lots of people, people from different countries, happily celebrating, and his Kenzo...
[...]

My comment now relates to the evolution or reworking of the '91 Kenzo. For a long time I owned this myself, until I tested a few months ago after a long "Kenzo break" this new edited version in a perfumery. Right at the first spray I had 'flashbacks' again.... It was about me, immediately I bought a bottle in the store....

When this new version came on the market I do not know at all. He is not quite so aquatic in comparison and a little woodier, but basically it smells - for my nose at least - pretty much identical or similar to the 91 bottle.

The new one here also opens with a dreamy, maritime, airy and aquatic breeze that thrills me. As it progresses, however, it develops its first woody traits, where it becomes somewhat sweet, but without losing its aromatic freshness from the beginning. Because it still remains very pleasantly fresh in an "airy" way; despite the piney note I detect. This aromatic freshness transports one mentally to warmer countries, to beaches with deep blue-clear sea, light blue-clear sky and bright yellow sun...

And when the sandalwood is added in the base, the fragrance reaches its peak. This slightly creamy-balsamic sweetness paired with the
velvety-warm wood is a pleasure, just to melt away I find. Nevertheless, this base is still enveloped by this airy aquatic sea note.

Because of its composition, it is made for the warmer season, but you can of course wear it throughout the year. But for me, I know it comes out best in the spring or summer. The sillage you notice on a breeze feels very smooth and soothing.

The fact that a fragrance of this composition lasts a good 6-7h on my skin, is an indication that from scratch fresh fragrances do not always have to have endurance problems.
Conclusion:
Currently, I do not use this Kenzo, because I'm still waiting for spring and the first warmer days, on which I will wear it again with a lot of pleasure. Long it is no longer there...
However, I sniff again and again at the spray head and enjoy these moments.

Because not only the fragrance is dreamlike, also my memories of him are golden...

This said acquaintance is sadly no longer with us, the dear gentleman took him far too soon...

But through memories, many people live on in us; invisible though they may be, but still close....

And though every journey has an end, the memories of it are everlasting...

In the bubble bath of fragrance feelings
Finally I have managed to lead this boy to my nose and I have to say that this is a fine little thing. It starts fresh and maritime, nutmeg ground the whole thing to a fresh and spicy scent. It is noticeable that at the very beginning a clear alcoholic note resonates with the pure. I don't really like to define whether the alcohol contained in this fragrance simply evaporates worse.
Then it becomes coniferous - but full pot! The pine makes no secret of saying "Here I am" and struggles with the cedar for supremacy. But the jaw is the superior part. Makes it a little oldscoolig, but interesting.
After the conifers have been trimmed a little, this fragrance is surprisingly multifaceted. It doesn't have much on the ingredients list, which is all the more surprising that it is both flowery and slightly powdery, balsamic and creamy. Like that, when only a few ingredients - that is probably the secret of the makers. I like it! Yes, it reminds a little of a bubble bath, not the one with the spruce needles, but of a blue stuff whose name I can't think of right now. But it reminds me of another scent that you wouldn't even have on your bill and which I could only determine by chance because I tested both at the same time: the Eau de Toilette from Aramis. Yeah, they're different already. Where the classic is tart and citric, Kenzo Homme comes across as softer, more cuddly. One could almost say that it could also be a reinterpretation of that classic. Sandalwood does not dim this away, but prepares a pleasant "bed", never appears too dry, as can often be the case with woody fragrances. Fine fragrance.
The Sillage is very good for the first few hours, but he stays in clothes for days without getting on his nerves. On the skin it disappears after 8-10 hours, so endurance is quite given.

Close to the original
This great original must of course also be reviewed. I only recently treated myself to this new version and so the line is almost complete in my collection. I really liked the aquatic charm of the old Kenzo pour Homme Eau de Toilette version and this "update" is also quite successful. It doesn't always work, e.g. with Kenzo Power the new bottle is already a downgrade. Here, the current version is an absolute success. In terms of popularity, this original does not fare so well compared to the famous and slightly hyped Bisch flanker. The DNA of the original from the 90s is a little outdated, but in my eyes it is absolutely timeless.

Here, too, you get a great fragrance at a fair price. Roundabout 50€ for 110ml is absolutely fair and worth it if you are looking for a great aquatic with everyday suitability. Kenzo is a great brand with fair prices anyway.
The bottle has of course changed over the years. I also have the old bottle here, but the new bamboo version is of course much more modern and contemporary.

In my opinion, the new Kenzo Homme is surprisingly close to the original DNA. But I also think that's a good thing, as this was a fragrance that simply came across as likeable and was a blessing in hot and humid temperatures. Christian Mathieu is also the same perfumer as the original. The pyramid has been slimmed down considerably, but still smells surprisingly similar to this huge pyramid from the original. This concise aquatic freshness and the overall structure have been adopted quite well. This slightly greenish touch and the woody notes are also shared between the two versions. This new version is ultimately a little more modern and this typical 90s touch has been dimmed somewhat. Nevertheless, it retains its charm and remains an aquatic that is refreshing and invigorating. The mixture of fresh aquatics and wood is simply great. This subtle spiciness and the greenish nuances are also perfectly balanced. Those who liked the old version will also like this one.
The performance of the OG seemed a little stronger to me, although this version is still in the green range. this fragrance lasts a minimum of 5-6 hours and the sillage is also in the medium range. Can be worn in between or for everyday use without any problems.

I can also recommend this new version. Low budget recommendation is of course the Acqua, which is available for a small price. High-end is the Shelter Island which is even more luxurious. But this new version is also convincing. This version has retained its likeable charm.

Not everything was better in the past or No history of decay
For a long time, it feels like a long time ago, the predecessor of this fragrance, Kenzo pour Homme Eau de Toilette, had almost signature status for me. I emptied two bottles, if I remember correctly. The love affair between me and Kenzo Homme began in high school, and we also had an intense phase later during my studies.
Now you might expect a story of decay and bitter disappointment now that I have the new edition on test, but no, it won't be that kind of story.

I think the new version is very successful. The DNA is there, the originality and uniqueness too, that unmistakable sillage with pine notes that come in a maritime cloud - it's all there! What is absent, however, is the pungent note that Kenzo pour Homme Eau de Toilette had. The old version could have a certain heaviness that was almost headache inducing. I obviously still liked wearing it, but I now think that I must have accepted this pungent harshness in the earlier version rather than seeing it as a particular achievement of the fragrance. It may be that other perfumistas miss something in the new version that they perceive as "strength of character", "roughness" or "rough edges". In that case, it would be a story of decay. I find the new version softer. It has everything I liked about Kenzo Homme without being too heavy. While the earlier version smelled like pine resin over time, so it was sweet and heavy at times, with the new version I really have the association of standing in a pine forest with the wind blowing around my ears.
I even like the bottle better. Not that I find the bottle particularly beautiful. It does look cheap, but the old bottle was more of an unsuccessful work of art. The new one is at least more pragmatic, but it's certainly no masterpiece either.

So:
If you are looking for a special aquatic with recognition value, which clearly plays on the cedar theme and does not disdain a successful synthetic, you will find it here. Sandalwood, also synthetic, can be detected very easily.

So, my dear friends, don't pine for times gone by and see what is right before your eyes: it has become a Kenzo Homme!

Andiamo in pineta!
"Kenzo? Is that you? No...I don't believe it now!"

How are you doing? We haven't met for ages! That's right, you were in a few courses with me and in the parallel class back in the sixth form - or were you a year above or below me? Oh, I don't remember exactly.

Yes, we never really had much to do with each other, but we knew each other from before.

And we met up here and there, usually just in passing or fleetingly, sometimes more or sometimes less. Sometimes in the break or at one of the graduation parties.

Oh man, you've gotten so thin! Almost thin compared to before. To be honest, I didn't really recognize you at all. Only now that you've spoken to me and told me.

Compared to today, you really carried a lot more around with you back then, you were already a really young guy, well-built, strong and that suited you well! You were an athlete, a swimmer, I think.
Now you're skinny, my dear. Wow, you've become slim. But hmm...

Back then: those were the days. Oh here, graduation party and all that: You remember late at night when the party went on and how long it lasted. You were always there - full steam ahead and you could always be relied on at the end, you never went home early!
Well...it was nice, maybe we'll meet again sometime! Take care, nice to have met you again and see you again sometime!

Ciao!"

Now to the subject of fragrance:

So...
I don't know whether the Kenzo Homme Eau de Toilette is still really the Kenzo pour Homme Eau de Toilette from back then. I think I can only recognize it to a certain extent, because back then (even if it wasn't my fragrance) it was a very catchy and significant scent that still picks you up immediately today because you know it, just like some other fragrances.

Is this fragrance an aquatic marine scent? As it is advertised.

I don't really know. I recognize something fresh and summery, no question about it. Watery, seaside somehow less but more green, needled wood. More like a grove, maybe the sea in the distance and the wind always brings some of the sea air with it.

But this is not a "beach" fragrance, not Aqva pour Homme Eau de Toilette, but a fresh, green needle fragrance. Not as green as an Acqua di Selva Eau de Cologne, by no means, but fresher, but again with a hint of synthetics that cannot be denied.

I find it quite long-lasting for a fragrance of this genre. It's not bad and it's not sticky or annoying, but it's still there, even after a few hours, when other more expensive fragrances in the category have long since gone.

Which brings me to the last point: price. I wouldn't buy it at the regular price, it's usually available everywhere for well below the recommended price from all suppliers and you can put 40 ml in your bathroom for "from time to time". The bottle and spray head in particular are nothing. The sprayer is more like a jet from a garden hose.

Another association:

I spent a lot of time in Sardinia in my childhood and youth. And back then, as a teenager, we didn't go to the beach on vacation, but went to "la pineta" nearby. A small wood with conifers, a chiosco in the middle and benches. We always met there in the shade of the trees from four in the afternoon, with towels and blankets, a guitar, played cards, boules (yes, 90s, no cell phones and all that), lay, sat, smoked (as a teenager, secretly, also 90s! - good thing I got rid of that a long time ago).

And when we saw or met each other beforehand, we would say: "Andiamo in pineta!" And everyone knew.

I think the fragrance has a little bit of that. But that's how individual and subjective it is with perfume.
