Strange combination of notes which you either love or hate
(originally written in autumn)

XERJOFF: Indochine
Oud Stars Collection
Nose: Chris Maurice
Unisex

I love and respect this perfume even if it’s a synthetic mess. If I smell this when it’s too warm for this scent I hate it and I’m thinking to sell it straight away. Today when it’s-10c it treated me better.

There is missing nothing and there is nothing too much - the perfume is a great strange blend of fruits, flowers, musk and oud. This opens up with a juicy fruity strawberry splash which is a little bit shampoo like and harsh first. Strawberry as a note is difficult as well to keep there after an opening but I can get a hint of it for long time and it gets better after 30 min. Flowers start to shine quickly after the opening as well but this is not rosy one even if the rose is there. Other notes are so strong that if you think this is rosy oud, it’s not. This is fruity and sweet, a little bit tropical even if those kind of notes are not listed, but definitely this is a strong scent and oud (feels very synthetic as well) is really present all the time in this. There is some kind of tropical Mango which comes and goes. The sweet note is not sugary or syrupy one, not even from vanilla, it comes from fruits. I don’t get any Vanilla vibe from this. And what comes to the longevity: it’s eternal.

This is a unique blend and maybe a little bit challenging one but not because of Oud - this can be cloying and too sweet. Somehow it’s addictive and if you like fruity ouds, you should definitely sample this!

Top:
Strawberry, Pink Pepper & Freesia, Brasilian Orange
Middle:
Muguet & Peony, Bulgarian Rose
Base:
Blend Of Ouds, Agarwood & Musk, Vanilla Madagascar

Long-term report of a fragrance that deserves more attention - a masterpiece...?
Hello everyone,

Today I want to talk to you about a fragrance that, in my opinion, is highly underrated/overlooked and perhaps even ridiculed, the "Oud Stars - Indochine | XerJoff".

But why is that? To be honest, I can't say... it has been a mystery to me for many years. BECAUSE! It is incredibly well-balanced, ultra potent (warning, more on that below), and fortunately, it is very well received and appreciated.

The fragrance opens with a strong strawberry accompanied by fruity rose, similar to Oud Satin Mood Eau de Parfum, but the strawberry is rather overripe, which is noticeable. However, this does not bother me at all. It combines extraordinarily well with the rose, creating something soft - not sweet, disturbing, or synthetic, but rather the opposite; you can sense the high quality and the noble and fine composition.

The combination of strawberry and rose remains ever-present, but over time (over the hours), this combination will slightly recede, and the mix of oud, vanilla, and musk (similar to "Oud Stars - Alexandria II (Parfum) | XerJoff" in the dry down) becomes really very pleasant.

After about 4 hours, the fragrance becomes softer and gentler, like a veil surrounding you - very beautifully done. In my opinion, it almost feels like the musk from PDM or Initio in the air, and with the vanilla note - everything is done right, Xerjoff.

Since its release, I have purchased my third (!) bottle and among a perfume friend who also has several other high-quality fragrances, the "repurchase theme" is generally a tricky subject, but if I keep repurchasing the fragrance, you can assume it is quite decent ;).

A brief note on the topic of H/S and how it is received:

Regarding H/S - I have one from 2018 (!) and the performance is "insane", there is the term room-filling, and it fills rooms, hallways, neighboring rooms, floors (!), in short, this old one is one of my STRONGEST in terms of sillage. And regarding longevity, I'll keep it short, what would you give for noticeable 18 hours? And after subsequent SHOWERS, you can still smell it again and even afterwards.... In my opinion, any rating below 10 for mine would be an insult!

As for how it is received, the sillage and the mix of sprays you use have a massive influence on the comments. For example, I always use 2 - 3 (and sometimes even 4), but I do not recommend going above 5, because then you only get comments like, "Wow, what smells so strong here, phew, no, Benny, what is that...". And if you use just 2 - 3, you get a ton of compliments!

I see it as a UNISEX fragrance - without any tendency towards one side!
________

(Now the same as almost always - because it applies!)

Now to the topic of luxury:

As you can see in my profile, I have smelled a lot of fragrances, and there are scents where you can detect a certain (partly) strong synthetics, and you quickly realize that some fragrance houses focus more on quantity than quality, and there are some where you can tell, "Oh come on, let's put in more + better stuff," and you can smell that at the end of the day.

A brief note on the topic of packaging, bottle, sprayer:

I'll keep it short: 10 out of 10 in every category, and I know very well that tastes are very different. So, if someone honestly rates this with a 9 or less... - PHEW. Leather packaging, full metal cap, great timeless bottle design... it’s hard for me to rate it differently, and I say this not because I like or dislike a brand!

And now, almost finally, regarding the "lovely price", I’ll put it this way: if we say we have a certain desire for luxury products/fragrance products in the niche sector, then I find it difficult or, to be honest, nearly pointless to criticize this as something negative. No one forces us to spend this money. If you ask me now: Benny, is it WORTH it? Then I say, if you want to spend it, test it and buy it, but I recommend everyone to try it at least once! You just have to experience it - the art of what is possible/can be.

Now a short note on my opinion:

I am not sponsored, influenced by anyone, do not receive money or anything else. I approach the topic of perfume as I am, honestly; anything else is not my style. My true personal opinion is very valuable to me, and I hope that is noticeable. If I don’t like something, such as packaging, bottle, sprayer, or H/S, I will communicate that too!

Best regards, Benny ;)

Indochine reigns in the air
Indochine hits upon spraying, like floating a match over your wrist dipped in gasoline.

Indochine is so exclusive that it’s hard to get any more exclusive. There are only 40 bottles available at Oberpollinger in Munich, and naturally, I was able to test this incredibly wonderful Indochine there. A super nice saleswoman attended to me, and you could tell that fragrances are close to her heart. So, the pyramid we have here is not enough. There is a distinct Oud note in it, supposedly aged for 15 years. Rose is also present. Indochine allows Vetiver and orange blossom to shine through as well. Amber is also included, as stated in the pyramid.

Indochine seems almost never-ending. From the very beginning, it is at its peak, and no one will be able to topple it. It enters fully matured and versatile. Beautiful yet very approachable, Indochine is all about its extravagance.

Now, the beginning is already intense and very harsh. It is quite piercing and biting. This is not for the faint-hearted; one should be prepared for something. This Oud is a hot-blooded one. Untamed, it coils into the air and reigns there unchallenged. However, Indochine quickly becomes socially acceptable, and you can dare to step back onto the street. You will definitely stand out with this fragrance, which is already very sophisticated. The Oud with the rose remains very cutting in my nose, firmly surrounded by the orange blossom, which breathes a bit of lightness into Indochine. The orange blossom is also cutting, with a grim wink. The scent simply cannot shake off a certain acidity; it is somewhat ruthless regarding its exterior, but when properly dosed, it is wonderfully wearable.

The first time alone with the Oud, the rose, and the orange blossom is a tough and absolutely fantastic experience. When a bit of vanilla sneaks in and slides between the notes of Indochine, a soft, benevolent undertone becomes noticeable. The architecture of Indochine still seems a bit threatening; it is not as well-formed as that of a Fars, which with its symmetry is a purely beautiful work of art, while Indochine, with its angularity, represents a beautiful and attractive piece of art.

Undoubtedly, Indochine demands something from its wearer. It is not a fragrance that you just spray on and ride to the bakery. Tracking down the biting details and the fine bright undertones was a great experience for me.

I was very curious about the reissue of Indochine, but I didn't want to be tempted into a blind purchase due to controversial descriptions, so I first ordered a sample from Xerjoff in the sample kit.

After testing it three times, I still can't get enough of it. The intoxicating start, like champagne with strawberries. Later, a bouquet of peonies joins in (it feels like you're sniffing from a certain distance), after a few hours I perceive the floral note more as a rose scent. I don't smell any lily of the valley, fortunately no cutting dominant flowers at all (floral scents are not really my thing).

The Xerjoff website also mentions caramelized strawberries and mango in the description, or perhaps a jam made from it? [Has anyone of you ever eaten caramelized mango? I had to google recipes immediately].
“Mystical and Aristocratic. Unfolding with extravagant fruity accords, releasing aromas reminiscent of caramelized mango strawberry marmalade with musky nuances, all framed in a foundation of oud.”

I only perceive the animalistic oud for the first few minutes, and only when I test the scent on my wrist (and focus on it specifically). But in normal life, I never wear fragrances on my wrist :-) During the "full-fledged" test wear - three sprays from the sample on my neck - I have no negative associations at all (three sprays may sound like a lot for such an intense scent, but the sprayer of the manufacturer sample sprays quite sparingly). Over time, Indochine becomes warmer, deeper, slightly sweet (definitely not a sticky gourmand), sensual.

Fars was too bright for me and a bit soapy-fresh-aromatic on my skin, which doesn't really match my preferences. Indochine, on the other hand, is the perfect oud star for me.

A wearable scent, without being shapeless. The longevity is about 12 hours, although I would prefer to reapply after 6 hours - the lively top note is definitely uplifting. I can imagine that Indochine - applied before going out - feels like a glass of champagne.

I resist the impulse to reapply often because the base is also a delight - dreamily beautiful & cuddly soft. All in all, a great oriental with an interesting multi-layered development. Nevertheless, I would not recommend a blind purchase - the scent polarizes too much (to be read here and in other perfume forums)…

Lovely peppered strawberry basket, sneaky invasive woods
Indochine is truly a genuine niche fragrance, just as one would imagine.
Here, you are greeted in the opening by very authentic strawberries, which are quickly spiced up with pepper.

However, in my opinion, it is not a too sharp, discordant pepper, so it harmonizes very well with the strawberry basket. Still, it must be said that it is very present.
The pepper brings something very extroverted to the composition. This characteristic is complemented by the treacherous woods, which relatively quickly and dominantly integrate into the work,
slowly bidding farewell to the sunny moments when we were still picking strawberries in the meadow. Afterwards, the scent remains beautifully dark-woody-oudy. The strawberries can be perceived throughout the entire scent journey.

In the drydown, the strawberry becomes creamier, softer, while the oud and the woods recede slightly into the background, yet remain present. Ultimately, a lovely musk joins the
play and shines every time, as the musk together with the animalistic oud makes this fragrance something special again.

Carefully dose H/S Very good

Sillage is very noticeable in the first hours.
Overall, I can encourage people who like oud, as well as those who enjoy fruity scents, to try this creation.
It is definitely something very unique.

Strawberry liqueur meets rose and oud, with an animalic edge. Boozy opening with a clean fruity/floral facet and a musky and woody base.

A beautiful fruity oud star, that’s the grown up sister of Kemi Aurum. More oudy, less sweet and less fleeting than Kemi Aurum.

Sweet, fruity, boozy open w/ a mildly dark base; settles sweet & tropical. I'd say unisex (not as feminine as I expected), fall-winter.

A scent as bizarre as it gets: the most animalistic oud meets roses soaked in strawberry juice, right in the middle of a damp country path.
