Goldilocks
Caban has a unique quality to it I’ve tried hard to describe, even to myself. The best way I can express what this perfume evokes in me is to equate it to the cooking of sugar.
Bear with me.
If you have ever cooked sugar, you may be familiar with the few seconds between the sugar (glucose) being converted to fructose (or goes a second too long and is slightly burned). This is where the concoction rests on a knife’s edge between sweet and bitter.
Caban, to my nose, does this. Balances the sweetness from the tonka, the tanginess of the elemi with the bitter notes from the (my guess) sandalwood. It hangs there and for a moment my nose isn’t sure if it will go bitter or sour. It never does; it’s stays dancing there like those few seconds between sugar’s changeover.
This tug of war keeps the entire experience interesting from start to finish. It’s never too sweet. Never too tangy. Never too bitter. It’s Goldilocks—just right.
