I was about to wash it off.
Drunk Maple is one of the very few fragrances that really challenged me. The opening and generally the first phase of the fragrance doesn't suit my taste at all and, as harsh as it sounds, totally put me off and disgusted me. I was really close to washing it off and scrubbing it down.
In my opinion, the fragrance contains three main accords.
These are rum, suede and coffee. These three notes are also all recognizable at the beginning.
After spraying it on for the first time, I thought to myself when the scent was in the air: "Wow, an iced coffee vibe. An instant iced coffee powder that you mix with milk. Nice."
But when I put my nose to the surface of my hand, I thought to myself: "Phew, that's tiring and takes some getting used to"
A few moments later, I thought to myself: "Okay, now it's getting really disgusting".
To put the whole thing into perspective and describe it a little better, here's a suggestion to imagine.
Imagine you are in an ancient pub where people are smoking heavily. The pub contains many leather sofas, leather armchairs and chairs.
All the cigarette smoke from the many years of smoking is already firmly embedded in the leather furniture. The furniture doesn't really look nice anymore and has old coffee stains that have never been cleaned properly.
There are also people in the pub who are always a bit drunk and first drink some coffee and then the old rum.
These are roughly the associations I get here and for me personally it's just too much.
It disgusts me a bit.
I was about to wash the fragrance off completely, but then I thought to myself: "No Dennis, you can do it and let it dry down further and see how it develops"
Now comes the crazy part.
It gets really good with time.
These "disgusting" vibes disappear completely after about 1-2 hours and a great, slightly sweet coffee scent develops. I now see a sweet stretched coffee in front of me.
Coffee, maple syrup and a little vanilla. Towards the end, the pleasantly creamy sandalwood is added.
However, as I really struggled for the first two hours and was really disgusted, I can't really give it a good rating. What a shame! But that's how different tastes and general impressions of fragrances are.
So definitely don't let my rating and sometimes harsh words put you off.
Try out the fragrance and form your own opinion.
