A favorable side effect???
Hey guys.
A lot of text is about to follow. If you don't feel like it, you can read my conclusion further down ;)
First of all, I'll talk about the After Effect. Just right for my nose. Rum, cinnamon and saffron tempted me to buy it (apparently I'm a fan of saffron in fragrances).
For a 40 I really wanted to give it a sniff.
You get a fancy box (I know, nobody needs it) and a very sturdy bottle. It looks really high quality with all the metal elements. So I take off the cap (which also looks very high-quality because it's heavy) and carefully spray it on my wrist. The spray head blasts out so much... I was shocked and fascinated at the same time. I've never had anything like it before, I really enjoyed just spraying it. I think it's great.
Breathe out once and take a whiff....
...letting the alcohol evaporate first would have been a good idea.
Wait a minute.... I know that scent! I was only able to try the Side Effect from a friend last December. So I waited a little longer with my fragrance test and asked if he could bring it with him.
Today was the day.
Both fragrances were "done" blind in the crook of my arm. Why made you ask? Because I would have recognized which one was which due to the very cool spray head of the AE.
I wiggled my arms briefly (I'm sure it didn't look that elegant) and went into the comparison.
In the first 60 minutes, I couldn't smell any difference with the best will in the world. Both start really well and fill the room. Also really, really close to each other. Sure, I'm not a sniffer, but I would have expected significantly more differences.
After 1.5 hours, however, one of the two performed a little better...drum roll...it's the side effect of Initio. Even clearer after 2 hours. Much finer, a little woodier, smoky and also a very pleasant cherry. However, the After Effect doesn't have to hide. You can just smell that it is a little more synthetic. The light cherry note is a little more and the smokiness a little artificial, BUT NOT BAD! After 3 hours, the AE calms down a bit and the SE is simply more perceptible.
Both still very similar to each other.
After 6 hours the AE runs out of breath and after 8 hours the SE.
Conclusion: Yes, the After Effect is a very well-made dupe of the Side Effect. The gradient is not so fine, the durability is not so long, but for a 40 you can't go wrong here (unless you hate dupes!).
Perhaps the after effect will continue to mature and the durability will gain a few more minutes...but that remains to be seen.
However, this is just my opinion and may be completely different for you.
Have a great time...
