The mature and dry face of Phantom - a performing all-rounder
I recently picked up Phantom Elixir at a great price despite being a new release, and after two days of wearing it, I must say it’s a solid addition to Paco Rabanne’s Phantom lineup... right up there with the Parfum version. While it doesn’t aim to revolutionize the fragrance world, it delivers a well-rounded and wearable scent.
The scent pyramid is rather simple, and I can't detect anything remotely "vile" or confusing.

The base DNA is the usual Phantom, but this iteration leans more mature and refined (or, again, simple). It dials back the sweetness (no rhubarb here, which I liked in Parfum) and introduces a faint marine vibe blended with a dry, polite and inoffensive "designer oud." Some have compared it to Tom Ford’s Oud Minerale, and I can see the resemblance. However, Phantom Elixir feels more versatile, perfect for someone dipping their toes into (non-stinky) oud territory without diving headfirst into complexity.

I decided to put its projection to the test by asking a few people nearby if they could smell it on me after a couple of hours. The response? “Yes, and it’s rather good.” Subtle but positive feedback. Longevity sits in the 8+ hour range, with the scent gradually fading after the 5-hour mark. It’s not "beast mode", but it gets the job done. Still discernible as a skin scent well beyond the 10 hours mark.

To wrap up, we are not talking about a game-changer, but Phantom Elixir is more than just another run-of-the-mill designer fragrance. It offers an alternative to the endless wave of “blue” or "dumb reach" perfumes, serving as an easy, everyday option with a touch more character. If you’re looking for a versatile scent with a slight distinctive hint, this is worth considering.

Not every fragrance has to be bombastic and/or a "scent journey". Sometimes, being pleasantly reliable and simple is more than enough, especially if you are looking for versatility or distinctive office-friendly options. This is a solid 7.5/10.

The Scent from the Digital Matrix
Neon lights flicker, the bass thumps through the concrete, and somewhere in this scene, between skyscrapers and dark alleys, it appears - Phantom Elixir. A name that sounds like a digital potion, a promise from a futuristic world where machines and humans have long become one. And it smells just like that: smooth, synthetic, almost programmed.

The first spray? A wave of maritime notes, but not the salty breeze of a wild ocean. More like the cool, perfectly tuned simulation of a sea breeze in a high-tech wellness oasis. Fresh, clean, with a hint of metallic precision. Then, slowly, like a gradient in a cyberpunk scenario, mineral accents creep in - a touch of cold stone, modern, aloof. Alongside Oud, but not the heavy, smoky Oud from oriental tales, rather a tamed, synthetic variant, as if it had passed through a digital scent matrix.

And then, like an algorithm that always arrives at the same result, everything ends in vanilla. Sweet, soft, pleasant - but not exciting. It’s the typical Phantom touch: a synthetic base that fits seamlessly into the DNA of the line, without major surprises.

Phantom Elixir is not a bad perfume. It is smooth, wearable, and will find its fans. But it is also nothing that shakes the world. More like a well-programmed character in a video game - functional, present, but not the character that makes the story unforgettable. A scent for those seeking a modern, synthetic fresh-sweet experience without major experiments. Those who like Phantom will not be disappointed here. Those looking for a game changer might want to click on.

The Pyramid is a Lie!
Does anyone still remember Ben Carson? He once wanted to be a presidential candidate for the US Republicans and ultimately the President of the United States, but he lost to a certain Donald T. and then became Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under his administration. During the primaries 10 years ago, the neurosurgeon expressed his opinion that the pyramids of Giza were a lie. They were not meant to house mummies, but were established by Bible-Joseph as grain storage. Yes, there were crazies in US politics even before the orange-headed one first seized power.

In one thing, however, I agree with him: The pyramid is indeed a lie. Just not the one in Giza, but the one from Phantom Elixir.
Maritime and mineral notes, oud (listen, listen!) and vanilla. Very spartan, especially compared to the brothers in the line. And for me, it is completely incomprehensible. Vanilla is rather scarce here, but there is a lot of tonka. The scent reminds me a bit of Scandal pour Homme Le Parfum. I cannot detect oud to save my life, and I have to imagine the maritime and mineral notes in the slightly fresh, but massively synthetic start of the fragrance.
All in all, Phantom Elixir stays true to the line and offers an excess of synthetic sweetness and the most artificial gourmand that it turns my stomach. Nevertheless, it is, alongside Phantom Parfum, the best of the line. The youth will love it, as it is made for them. It wants to be worn to dates, parties, and, thanks to its subtle freshness, also to the club.

On the plus side, it has a bombastic sillage at the beginning, which, however, collapses after just 2 hours, but at least still performs for another 6½ hours at a lower level. For the price, that is still very decent. The bottle remains horrendous, for which it should receive negative awards.

This robot has added Oud to the mix.
A bold approach: sweet gourmand notes meet fresh, salty marine accents - and it surprisingly works well. The combination feels unusual at first sniff, but quickly finds a certain balance. The creamy-sweet part reminds one of almonds or light caramel, without becoming too heavy, while the marine notes provide a fresh breeze in contrast.

What’s missing is the promised Oud. It remains in the "background" or is completely absent - depending on skin chemistry. This component could have given the fragrance more depth and a solid foundation. As it stands, the composition is interesting, but also somewhat one-dimensional.

Nevertheless: The idea of combining two seemingly opposing fragrance worlds is somewhat successfully executed - though not fully realized. With a stronger woody foundation, more could have emerged here than just a good idea. Those who enjoy sweet-fresh scents and are looking for something different might still find it appealing.

The old Machines
On my journey through the digital matrix of the Phantom line, the Elixir is the version that is probably the "farthest" from the original DNA - but at the same time still remains part of the family.

The trend of becoming darker, more mature, and more complex with each flanker, ultimately pushing the formula to its limits with the Elixir, has happened to several lines.

To be honest - the Phantom base DNA is not one where this principle fits particularly well for me. At least on paper, I couldn't reconcile this gum-rhubarb sweetness with oud and wood.

In practice, however, it surprisingly works.

It's as if a Phantom has been sprayed in a stalactite cave. The minerality (where I could have sworn it could only be marketing) actually comes through. The opening is still quite typical Phantom - but it quickly becomes darker, not spicy, but leathery, mineral.

It is significantly less sweet in the drydown - more mature, subtler.

The core remains intact, but it has aged 10-15 years, has experienced something - now wears a leather jacket and goes coral diving.

A scent that is not easy to describe.

While the EDT was still the children's party, the Intense for me was the golden mean - the Elixir is one for winter. An intriguing scent.

Sillage as usual for the line: okay to good, without being overpowering.

Those who seek this DNA, but in a complex form with masculine elements, might find their favorite here.

I guess some credit is due for trying something different with this sweet/fresh “oud” accord but it just doesn’t smell pleasant.

Along with the parfum, this is the best in this line. Has the Phantom DNA, but it's more mature. Not groundbreaking, but decent.

It smells like oud , but in a sweet way which is very rare. It’s oudy , but still fresh. I don’t understand why everyone hates it.

What’s the plan here? Vile opening, a confusing indescribable mess of nuclear strength. After an hour or so it’s fine —too little to late.

Don't pay attention to the hate reviews here, it seems like the Phantom line has a virus called "Hateiritis." The scent is great - something different!

Finally, the phantom I've always wanted.
Without the annoying synthetic vanilla in the top note.
Top in every way!

I like it. The adult brother of the original. It's getting a worse reputation here than it really deserves. Fresh fruity sweet.

Familiar, fruity sweet Phantom DNA; complemented by a light, ozonic freshness. Slight salty notes with - understandably - civil Oud.
