My favorite iris
For years I was on a quest to try all the Iris fragrances, so many Iris fragrances! A few I liked enough to buy but the one that stuck was this one. To me, it’s this beautiful Iris smoke with a touch of the star anise. It wears beautifully as well, long lasting with good sillage but sheer enough not to be oppressive or overwhelming. I don’t really get the ylang, vanilla or heliotrope but those are all notes I enjoy so they are probably folded into the main chord of the scent so seamlessly as to be undetectable.
It’s one of those simple but perfect scents that smell the same from beginning to end and go on for days but you wouldn’t want it any other way because they are just lovely as they are.
It’s also completely unique. Iris and Anise isn’t an obvious combination but it works beautifully.
My version is the old one from back when the brand was called “Odori” and it’s in the rectangular bottle with the wooden frame.
Big love!️
Edit: I’m not sure what’s going on with this site but I find many of the reviews talk about notes that aren’t there. Like the one below referencing violet. There’s no violet in the scent pyramid nor does it smell like violet.

Sheer Violety Iris
Odori's Iris is beautiful and easy to love. While this was apparently marketed to men, this would be stunning on anyone.

The opening is a blast of cold, papery irones (iris) mixed with their less expensive cousin, ionones (violet), to produce a crisp and clean and almost aquatic purple floral accord. The ionones in this case read like violet leaf more than flower giving it a greenness that bolsters the coolness of the irones. There is a sweetness present from the first spray that is also more characteristic of violet fragrances than of iris.

As it dries down this gets less cold, less austere, less overtly floral. A warm musky vanillic (heliotropin+ a very soft ylang + amber combo) base accord rises to meld with the cool purple floral accord creating a very realistic reference to old fashioned lipsticks. I can't smell the star anise, but that's just fine with me.

Important Note for Iris/Orris Lovers: While there is orris in this, the prominent violet and heliotrope keep this from being a typical gray toned orris fragrance. As an avid fan of the funereal, gray toned orris fragrance genre, I admit that I was initially bummed by the violet since it is not listed and was therefore unexpected. Even still this is an excellent iris + violet combo. The dry down of this is ethereal.

Iris is a soft fragrance, it wears fairly close to the skin and smells chic, clean and sophisticated. This is a beautiful addition to any iris and violet lovers collection.

In the same general olfactory neighborhood as Guerlain Apres l'Ondee, Guerlain L'Heure de Nuit, Malle L'Eau D'Hiver, Dusita Splendiris, and Heeley Iris de Nuit.

Very helpful Review 5
Gentle unisex
Sometimes I am amazed at how companies categorize fragrances into women's and men's scents!

So, Iris by Odori is a men's fragrance!? I am quite sure that in the past this scent would have been sold as a women's perfume. Since Iris reminds me a lot of a classic fragrance, I can imagine that women could also be enthusiastic about this perfume.

The top note has something aldehydic on my skin and strongly reminds me of the old Chanel No. 5, in a slightly more rugged version. Not that the two fragrances are comparable, but I believe there is a similarity. The floral aspect is quite unusual for a men's fragrance.

The heart fully lives up to its name. Here, the iris smells pure, but very soft and rather sweet.

The perfume fades away pleasantly powdery, and the iris note is held for a long time. The similarity to the classic fragrance remains throughout the entire scent development.

Men who prefer more robust scents will probably have some issues with this iris fragrance. "Iris" is a rather understated scent, but it still has decent longevity. It is excellent for going out as well as for the office.

For me, it's an absolute candidate for purchase, also because of the beautiful and simple bottle design.

Iris..
I agree with Lotte1 on this.
It is - for me - an extremely pleasant scent.
I find it particularly well done that it is incredibly light, very calm, yet you still perceive everything a bit. Very balanced.
Powdery, slightly sweet due to the vanilla, and somehow very familiar, even though I don't know why.

Starts off slightly spicy with anise and then develops into a finely creamy skin scent. As is often the case with these fragrances, very subtle.
