Do you ever have the feeling your collection is 'complete'?

Yes, I do. It's complete. I have everything I could possibly want in it. Now I'm looking at what I can get rid of (because I can never use up all my perfumes) 😺

That is so awesome! I am in a sort of similar situation. Decluttering at the moment, but also still feeling that there are so many perfumes I still want to try an add to my collection 🙈

I don’t feel like my collection is complete but honestly, I don’t feel the need for it to be.
I don’t even really think of it as a “collection” in the first place.
If I love a perfume enough to want a bottle, I’ll buy it. That’s it.
I don’t think about what might be missing, whether I’ve got all occasions covered, or what would make a smart addition.
That kind of systematizing just isn’t part of how I personally approach perfume at all.

I agree with this. Personally, I do see my perfumes as a collection, however I am not having any goals to "complete" it or I don't systemize it as "functional wardrobe", but instead it consists of smells that I love and smells that make me feel good. Perfumes are more art and feelings for me than something rational.

Yes! Indeed! It probably will never be 'completed', I wish though 😆

It continuously changes, some go and some are added. But maybe that is also the fun of it. Discovering new perfumes to love

Yes. But it's always a lie hahaha

That's a hard one! Hmmm yes and no. I think I did find the brands/houses/whatever that suit me as a person, but I don't have everything I want from them - but at the same time, I will always sniff everything I can, discovering new scents and seeing what's out there...

We change all the time as we grow, so...who knows if my collection will ever be complete? If you asked me 10, hell, 5 years ago if I would be into powdery profiles, I would give you a hardcore no, and now, it's what I wear most of the times. So who knows?

I honestly feel like my collection/ wardrobe is the equivalent of the fridge door shelves with the mustard and other condiments on it. There is no "complete" because there is always another mustard to try. But there is "enough mustard for now."

Tbh I have the feeling it's either complete or well organized now to what I want and need at the moment

Colder weather:

1 - La Nuit de L'Homme Le Parfum - Signature

2 - Le Mâle Le Parfum - Daily

3 - Le Mâle Elixir and Lumière Garçon - Going out

4 - Détour Noir - Clubbing

5 - Riflesso and Art of Arabia I - Gym

Warmer weather:

1 - La Nuit de L'Homme Le Parfum - Signature

2 - "Only The Brave (Eau de Toilette) | Diesel" - Daily

3 - Bad Boy Cobalt - Going out

4 - Bad Boy Cobalt and Lumière Garçon - Clubbing

5 - Riflesso and Art of Arabia I - Gym

I second this. I'm not an ongoing, constant collector like many users here -- more power to them of course, but I would just get overwhelmed with that many on my shelf.  I have two or three "active" fragrances at once that I layer and experiment with, and then I replace them whenever I run out (I usually buy samples/minis) or get too bored.  So, right now I'm refreshing my shelf and hopefully I'll be satisifed with my choices for a while so I can find other fun and creative ways to spend more money than I should.

I did at one time feel as if all my fragrances were starting to smell too similar and stopped buying as much as i felt I had everything I need (complete) ,but I said to @Lempi the other day that I really need to explore more red and green fragrances before I could truly say it’s complete. I definitely have more than enough freshies, blues and gourmand to last a lifetime so I would say in their regards that side of my collection is complete. So yeah it’s time to start exploring more reds next as I have a few greens already but only one red which is Spicebomb Infrared Eau de Toilette . I know Eros Flame comes in a red bottle but I don’t think that is really considered a true red fragrance tbh?

It was complete six months ago! I am just not finished.

I would never have thought this day would come, but since I have Infusion d'Iris (2015) Eau de Parfum, I really feel as though I found my HG and that my collection is complete.

Of course I will still sample now and then, just because I find it interesting to smell- and learn and talk about scents, but I don't think I will ever come across something that I will love as much as this scent.

Do you ever have the same feeling after trying or buying a scent?

Hello! Great thread 🤍
When I made a list "the heart of my collection," I felt like I had found the best scents in my favorite fragrance styles.
My collection already includes my perfect tuberoses, wine roses, chocolate patchoulis, pine, smoky, amber, creamy gourmands, floral gourmands, suede irises, and even fresh lilies fragrance.
My collection is almost complete. There are still some fragrances I'd love to own or explore. I think it's a never-ending process, but I'm no longer obsessed with adding to my collection.

Complete ish... A couple of years ago I stopped hoarding fragrances as I seemed fulfilled. I have downsized a bit and was quite content with my collection (still way too big). Last year Papillon Artisan Perfumes caught my eye again and ever since I have welcomed 5 new PAP fragrances (I already had Bengale Rouge in my collection. I also rediscovered decants of Carnal Flower Eau de Parfum and Rose Tonnerre , reigniting my interest and buying those as well. For now I think I am good, well, sort of... Iris Poudre is still on my wish list though along with a few other interesting fragrances but we'll see. I have enough to last me a lifetime and beyond.

I actually do feel very content with mine honestly. I've fallen into accumulation/discard (in the form of giving away, and occasionally selling) cycles before, so the only rational way out of it for me personally is to discipline myself into gratitude. It really does work

Merely just looking at my collection usually does the trick 🙃

I have had that peace of mind before. I had 2 full bottles: Do Son Eau de Parfum and Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca. When I was in the mood for something different, I had a discovery set to play with. It kept me satisfied a good few years!

I've only gone a little nuts buying more perfume this year and I've limited myself to 10 bottles (30ml or up). I just ordered #9. I'm only 1 away from complete and then I will have to use something up or give it away before buying anything new.

I just started collecting earlier in the year so at this point I've been in full amass mode. So far I'm constantly going down different genre rabbit holes, think green fougere spicy rabbit hole may be next. It's gonna take a bit to explorer the different corners. Looking forward though, I'm trying to plan on a few here a few there that can round out my collection. I think I'll always pick up a few decants a month as long as I'm interested, akin to picking up a single cigar at the shop to give it a try. And then only a bottle of the ones that completely blow my mind. I also think at some point I'll get to where I'm trading off bottles I'm no longer feeling.

I go through periods where I feel like my collection is complete, but I continue to sample out of curiosity because I enjoy experiencing and evaluating perfume as an art form.  A lot of what I really love to smell are scents that I don't feel comfortable wearing all day.  When I (rarely) add a scent to my wardrobe it's because it feels comfortable to wear and I love it.

Yes I do. I have absolutely everything I want, maybe even more. Will I stop buying perfume? Of course not 🙂

But now I only buy what I consider special and valuable.

I can say that I have finally collected everything I love from exclusive Chanel line🙂

Enjoying all the replies 😃

Yes, I feel that my wardrobe is at its natural completion. I haven't tried anything new lately that I have felt strongly about, and if I did like it, I felt it was already repeated in my wardrobe. I'm mostly a vanilla girl, and I think my wardrobe showcases this note in very different ways that satisfies me (i.e., vanilla + fruit, vanilla + Oud, vanilla + lavender, pure vanilla, vanilla + greenery, vanilla + tobacco, dark gothic vanilla, amber-vanilla, vanilla not gourmand, vanilla + citrus etc etc).

I'm at a point where I enjoy reading and discussing perfume more than I do adding to my collection. If I try something and I'm excited about it, I'll buy it. But these instances are uncommon. I'm focused more on editing my collection and finishing some things I love but have outgrown.

Oh wow!!! I'm not even a Chanel girl but this is gorgeous 😍

I don't think this will ever be possible, as I always have a new perfume in mind to add to my collection. I try to buy less, but every month I add another one.

Otherwise, given the quantity and variety of perfumes I have, it is certainly complete.

At times, it only ONE fragrance to feel that you have everything and you do not need anything else. It is the quite of fragrance you could wear every single and feel completely content. For me that fragrance is Féminité du Bois Eau de Parfum. I managed to find a bottle at long last a few months ago.

Since then, my fragrance spending is inexistent. I am currently decluttering a lot of my collection. Last time I checked I had 150+ fragrances. I've realized that I own a lot of fragrances that I haven't worn in years. Many i like but I am keeping only fragrance that I adore.

I enjoy sampling new fragrances but as I cannot stand Amberwood, Akigalawood, Ambroxan, very loud or synthetic smelling scent, well I am very often disappointed when trying new releases. But hey, my collection is sufficient. I do not need more.
