I’ll name 10 I dislike most, some are very controversial.

Tocade (1994) Eau de Toilette it smells like a rubber Halloween mask (I bought it as a blind buy actually because I usefully love 1990s/80s perfumes, this is my worse ever blind buy.

Madame Rochas (1989) Eau de Parfum it also smells like a rubber mask haha. I’ll never trust Rochas to not smell like a rubber mask again Very Happy

Arpège (1993) Eau de Parfum Smells like Chinese food.

Light Blue Eau Intense Just Nothingness.

Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum This sums up everything i dislike about the higher end of modern perfumes.

"Be Extra Delicious | DKNY / Donna Karan" Candy floss chav.

Nahema Eau de Parfum & Chamade Eau de Toilette i had both, i can’t remember which one was which though because I didn’t like them so much. I actually find most Guerlain perfumes very disappointing so far.. apart from Samsara which is one of my all time favourites

Champs-Élysées Eau de Parfum very disappointing, didn’t like it at all.

Sì (2023) Eau de Parfum Intense

Mmh nobody mentioned it yet 😅 maybe I'll be alone on that one but N°5 Parfum or any aldehydic fragrance. My tastes have evolved and changed a lot throughout the years. But I can't do aldehydes... It literally itches my nose each time I try. And I'm still trying 😆

Hi, @Mohca ! No, you're not alone there. I don't mind aldehydes, but the reformulated (to death!) versions of No 5 have left me gagging and turned me off to a lot of Chanel perfumes and anything else heavy on animalic aldehydes.

Layton I think it smells like a strangers bad breath.

Terre d'Hermès Eau Très Fraîche is just a gross smell that has no redeeming qualities.

There are many more I dislike but these two are the worst of it.

What traumatic accident have you experienced to associate Layton with bad breath?

It just smells SO bad that that description is the closest I can come. I ve tried different samples from PDM as well as microperfumes. It’s just bad. 1/10 for me.

I am a someone who hates a lot of smells, and I never thought I would get into perfumery because of my sensitivity to smells...

I dislike most mass market brands that use synthetics only, they all smell the same to me and give me migraines. So, I stick to niche and mostly botanical perfumes, at least I can handle them.

I have a few examples of objectively good niche scents that I personally hated:

Nudiflorum by Nasomatto made me gag and retch, I could not handle it... Something about the animalic notes they got in there mixed with (what I think is) raspberry just makes my stomach turn. After smelling it, I cannot deal with any perfumes that contain leather and raspberry 😕 Just thinking about it makes me nauseous.

A second perfume that ruined another combination of notes for me is Mistpouffer by Stora Skuggan. I cannot even contemplate ever smelling something with pine and sugar in it after getting acquainted with Mistpouffer. It just smells like hangover breath and cheap pine cologne to me...

And the last but not least, it's 46th street by Gravel. Same issue as with Nudiflorum - leather and berry combination, makes me nauseous. Also very smoky and smells like burning piss🤢

Again, these scents (well, at least Nudiflorum and Mistpouffer) are well-done and well-liked, I am just writing my experiences to illustrate that sometimes hating a scent comes down to having a visceral irrational reaction to it 😅 One of my favorite perfumes is from Stora Skuggan (Hexensalbe), yet another one is on this list...

I don't come across fragrances I find incredibly unpleasant often, but one I recently tested and absolutely hated was Violette Kew. I love violet which had me really wanting to try this (and I also like sandalwood and cardamom notes), but I was not prepared for how that cumin interacted with the other notes. For me it was one of the least pleasant fragrances I've ever smelled; I can't even find the words to describe why.

For me it was Sheer Veil. I`ve tried it again and again, at different time points in my life to allow some time to elapse and my tastes to evolve, but every time I had the same strong reaction: sharp hooks prying my brain through my nose. Again, I realize this is a deeply personal thing, I`m sure there are others who love it.

For me it was Franck Boclet Ylang Ylang.  Instant migraine, nose-crinkling vile sickeningly sweet banana-floral nastiness. I knew I wasn't a fan of ylang ylang, but my son was we got this as a blind buy. It's the only fragrance I've ever returned.
