Oceanic Litchi
I am incredibly relieved that this flanker smells nothing like the original. The bright, citrusy lemon opening and pencil-shaving cedar drydown in Light Blue for Women, was not a blend I was a particular fan of, but I respected it for its popularity and success. This flanker, however, is far more enjoyable and a touch more feminine on the skin.
Opening with a sweet and fruity burst of litchi, it was obvious from the very first spray that Light Blue Dreaming in Portofino was going to be new and different. Don't fear, it's still a summery scent, but more floral than its predecessor.
Osmanthus and iris in the heart provide that new floral texture, as well as adding a slight oceanic feel. The scent is fresh and crisp, a wonderfully cooling fragrance for hot weather or for days spent at the beach.
The drydown is quite musky on my skin, but not unpleasant. It's almost a clean muskiness, like the scent of freshly washed linen drying in the breeze. I like it much better than the original Light Blue drydown.
Although the sillage is fairly soft, I didn't have any issues with the lasting power. I thought it lasted quite well for a sheer floral scent. I'm actually impressed.
If you're anything like me and found the original too sharp, do not write off testing this flanker. You may be pleasantly surprised. I'm not certain as to whether this flanker will remain a part of the Dolce & Gabbana collection, but here's hoping that it sticks around for a lot longer than just one season.
