Pina Colada without Consequences
I have quite a few perfumes in my collection that I don't want to keep permanently, but rather serve as one of several alternatives on the same theme. Sunrise Beach by Berdoues is one of them. It is a deliciously Caribbean summer gourmand that fulfills all dreamy wishes for white beaches, palm trees, turquoise water, and a creamy Pina Colada in a hammock.
The scent starts off incredibly fruity; the listed notes immediately blend into an intense impression of pineapple and coconut. Just like a Pina Colada, creamy-sweet and fruity-exotic. Mandarin and lime combine with coconut to create this note that I perceive as pineapple, yet they are also individually detectable. However, the overall impression, the interplay that makes up the top note, weighs heavily above all. And this impression does not change until the scent completely fades away after about four hours.
This means: There is a wonderful, exotic top note. There is no change in the scent. There is rather weak longevity. And finally, a weak sillage - never has anyone noticed the four sprays I applied just before, despite many days with many different people.
So, it is essentially a scent for daydreams and would be best suited for winter when you can no longer stand the gray, damp cold weather, have a few hours to yourself on the sofa, and click through travel offers for the Caribbean and South Seas. A private scent to be enjoyed alone, it delivers what it promises, does not change at all, and at the end of the daydream, it disappears again without bothering you for too long.
Because this unchanging pineapple note is a bit annoying, in my opinion. It has something artificial about it that I don't necessarily need all day long. The use for this scent, which is winter, is therefore settled once and for all, I think.
Similar in cocktail effect, very, very similar in scent note, just as quickly faded and also without significant development are Berdoues' "Bondi Beach," which is also recommended for layering with "Sunrise Beach," and yet is really similar to it despite seemingly different notes, as well as "Sunny Seaside of Zanzibar" by 4711, which is really suitable for a refreshing spritz to escape the rain in between. Again: pure Pina Colada. Lastly, dear FioreMarina reminded me of the lovely RemCoco - here too: pineapple and coconut, albeit with more interesting additions!
For a truly exciting South Sea or Caribbean gourmand - and I absolutely need such a scent from time to time in summer - I will reach for the highly esteemed "Leisure in Paradise" by Simone Andreoli in the future. The fruit notes here are a bit different, yet just as delicious, if not even more beautiful. And the wonderful thing is: There is a long, exciting development from the fruit through a sweet, fine vanilla to wonderfully dry beach woods. This will be my only Caribbean gourmand in the future. And I will use up "Sunrise Beach" in these last summer days - after all, Berdoues only offers the scent in 30 ml bottles.
