The Beautiful in the Beautiful
Cumin as a fragrance ingredient is seductive and beautiful, spicy and warm. This special substance exudes a very sensual scent that, when applied in the right context, can have an aphrodisiac effect. The addition of floral notes, paired with sandalwood and patchouli, can further enhance this effect. They all stimulate the production of the body's own pheromones. We do not consciously perceive these substances. It is a gentle magic.

Some time ago, the wonderful Maggy4U sent my LordLuxifer countless samples from BtV. If there is an expert on the scents of BtV, it is definitely the mentioned Mr. M4U. Curious girl that I am, I also sniffed at the numerous samples from the noble donor. Time stood still for me with "Violaceous." I was like paralyzed. What I smelled was different. It was better than almost everything I had smelled before.

Now, this would be a good time to define what actually triggers a woman olfactorily. The industry has assigned us the powdery, sweet scents. Girls, we know better. Occasionally, to maintain appearances, we go along with it. Deep down, however… that’s not really it. Each of our companions who paved the way for our independence and freedom was neither sweet nor powdery. All our predecessors had to sacrifice themselves, had to be at least twice as strong as an average man. I am talking about strong women like Marie Curie, Louise Otto-Peters, Clara Zetkin, Simone de Beauvoir, and so many unknowns who ensured that we can experience equality as a matter of course today. It wasn’t always like this.

So what do we like now?

It can be a bit dirty. It must have depth. A woman sees through the superficial very quickly. It may be that we do not communicate it openly, but we recognize the unloved simplicity! We are complex. We expect complexity.

"Violaceous" is a fragrance that touches me deeply. The listed fragrance notes do not appear to follow the fragrance pyramid. It is a playful jumble. What is present is an explosion of everything. Lavender flirts with the floral notes and connects with the chocolatey notes of benzoin. The depth of oud, patchouli, and tobacco is also immediately present. Everything dances joyfully around this perfectly woven note of cumin. I experience this scent as a reference for the cumin note. It is neither sweaty nor unpleasant. It has the intensity of an oboe. The wonderful sound of the oboe has amazed many. So it is here with this controversial fragrance note. It is the star of the composition.

A few weeks ago, I ordered Amber from Roja Parfums. I remembered that this fragrance also has this wonderful combination of lavender and chocolate pralines. Superficially speaking, ROJA's Amber is a magnificent scent, but it lacks the depth of "Violaceous." And it is exactly this depth that the BtV creation achieves with this wonderfully integrated note of cumin.

The scent lingers on my skin for over 8 hours. During this time, I experience a wonderful finale. No, the lover does not leave after the act of love. He stays, embraces me, and shows me that my decision was the right one. As much as I regret it, I will have to inform the charismatic Russian that I have a new signature that is so beautifully violet.

Sensual Embrace
Violaceous honestly surprised me the most. As the only fragrance in a bottle color that does not appear in the flag of the United Arab Emirates, I initially did not expect it to be high on my testing list, probably also due to the scent notes. As Perfume Bay informed me in response to my question, the violet represents the club color of the al Ain Sports & Culture Club, the currently second-placed football club in the UAE Premier League.

However, right after spraying, I am enveloped by a wonderfully balanced composition of jasmine (lavender?), orange, and chocolate. Warm and so beautifully relaxing that I even had to apply a fourth spray. At the same time, Violaceous is neither sweet nor really floral. It is perfectly suspended between worlds.

Underneath this delicious combination, Boadicea weaves in sensual accords of musk and cumin. They create an erotic tension - and this without the cumin coming across as sweaty or "too human." A base of light tobacco, sandalwood, and slightly smoky oud allows the fragrance to continue to radiate warmth and cohesion.

The bottle carries the color of the violet (and lavender), which surely influences the scent gently, but never pushes itself to the forefront. It is the beautifully angular, classic bottle shape of the first Boadiceas. Violaceous is neither a gourmand nor a classic oriental. It is exactly what the Emirates also stand for. Modernity combined with tradition.

PS: Violaceous has been released as one of five fragrances in the exclusive Perfume Bay Collection, which can only be obtained through the eponymous perfumery in Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi. They ship worldwide. :)

Although not listed in the notes, this is mainly a Lavender scent. If you're a fan of By Kilian's "A Taste of Heaven", you will enjoy this.

Sublime and mysteriously beautiful. The composition is as loud or quiet as the virtuously integrated note of cumin allows.

A dream of jasmine/lavender & chocolate that becomes incredibly sensual over time. Cumin and musk play in the warmest tones.
