Commodity is a US perfume brand headquartered in New Jersey that was launched in 2013 through a global crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The company received funding from its supporters that far exceeded its target. For the European market, the brand has a logistics branch in the Netherlands and a sales office in the United Kingdom.
In 2014, Commodity officially entered the market as a direct distributor of perfumes to consumers. In March 2019, Commodity had to temporarily close and was reacquired in November of the same year through a takeover.
Initially limited to the North American market, the brand has been available globally online since its relaunch in 2020 and has also been placed in brick-and-mortar specialty stores.
The main feature of Commodity is the Scent Space concept, which allows customers to choose their fragrance from different projection strengths. Each fragrance is available in three Scent Spaces: as a personal version for close projection, as a balanced expressive version, and as an intensified version.
One of Commodity's first fragrances, launched in 2013, was Tea, developed by perfumer Donna Ramanauskas. In 2018, the fragrance Velvet was introduced, created by perfumer Jérôme Epinette, who has also developed numerous fragrances for the Swedish perfume and beauty house Byredo. Also in 2018, the fragrance Bois was released, developed for Commodity by German perfumer Frank Voelkl.
The brand is headed by Vicken Arslanian, the founder and creative director of Commodity. An experienced brand developer who comes from a family of perfumers and trained as an architect, he is responsible for the company's direction.
Vicken Arslanian founded what is now the sister company Europerfumes back in 1997. This company operates as a distributor for the North American market and imports well-known brands such as Xerjoff, Roja Parfums, Thameen, and Juliette has a gun.
