Not this rose, my darling!

Been on a rose kick lately. Got a sample of this Dolce darling. And oh well, it’s another disappointment. Glad it’s just a sample. It’s not completely terrible, it’s just kind of generic and a little bit nauseating. It’s marketed as aquatic and I think it’s water lily here that represents the water. It’s a very synthetic note in perfume to my nose. It smells like a very squeaky clean detergent y like ingredient. So that mixed with rose equals a sharp clean synthetic rose with a musky dry down. Not sure what amaryllis smells like for that matter. Sounds a little suspect to me. I am determined to find one of these Dolce pretty bottles for the summer. I hope I will find a good one in the end. But for sure, you would be better off without this one.

An Average Floral Rose Perfume. D&G Can Do Better.

This was the first D&G fragrance I've bought and was a blind buy which I now regret, as I find this fragrance disappointing. Whilst it's meant to be a rose fragrance, it's more of a watered down rose and the musk and cashmere notes really dominate after the initial burst of fresh, fruity-florals on opening.
At first, the fruity papaya blossoms and neroli top notes notes mix together with musk to provide a lovely burst of fresh, feminine scent. This is, however, rapidly gone within about half an hour to an hour to be replaced by white musk and cashmere. It's reminiscent of having a bath after lathering oneself with cashmere soap and musk oil - that's how strong the musk is. The drydown is a mix of aquatic green, white musk and cashmere notes with a powdery finish that happens quite quickly. I don't detect the sandalwood that's meant to be a base note, and the scent really reminds me of bars of cashmere soap which my mother used to use.
The staying power of this fragrance isn't great and it rapidly becomes a skin scent so this fragrance can be worn anywhere. It has a fairly low sillage and only lasts a few hours at most.
This is suited to any occasion and it's pleasant enough but nothing special. If you're wanting a good rose fragrance, try Bvgari rose instead. D&G haven't made this unique in any way, and I'm disappointed with this especially considering its price.
It's a lovely bottle, quite a beautiful design, and one expects to find a glorious perfume inside but it's just an average scent - pleasant and feminine but with more light musk and cashmere than rose. It's a fragrance that can be worn anytime, although spring and summer are probably the best months, and it's versatile so you can wear it to any occasion because it is gentle, feminine and fairly light.
However, if you are after a genuine rose fragrance, try Bvlgari Rose instead. D&G haven't made this unique in any way so I'm not going to be buying this again. It's not a fragrance I'll be reaching for very often and it has already been relegated to the back of my cupboard for perfumes, to be worn only if I run out of everything else - which means it won't see much use at all and I'm considering selling it as a result.

Memory of the New Dawn

I, as Rosenresli, like to plant roses in the garden.

And I enjoy sending them to my loved ones, a gift that is always well received.
Of course with root balls, so that one can enjoy the beautiful flower for many years - and perhaps remember me fondly.

So the climbing rose New Dawn is also waiting to be picked up by my friend, as it has grown too large to be sent.

A rose fragrance in a bottle would be a good idea for that.
And I discovered Rosa Excelsa.

Admittedly, the rose scent here is subtle and not sweet - rather floral and green, but it pairs well with the New Dawn, which also has a delicate greenish fragrance.
It cannot be compared to the sweetness of the concurrently sprayed rose flanker from Si.
No, as a counterpart to the lively gift rose, with its delicate yet steady scent, Rosa Excelsa is more harmonious.
For the sprayer also holds well on me.

The neroli gives the rose the pleasant coolness of morning dew.
Amaryllis and water lily are also transparent, emphasizing the "veiled" expression of the fragrance.
Cashmeran is soft in the dry down.

Those expecting a full-bodied "bed of roses" will not be well advised with Excelsa - however, those who appreciate the special scent of a single rose will like the fragrance.

I think it is just right for the sensitive friend.

More Snow White's Apple than Rose

The previous Dolces didn't blow me away, they were quite nice, nothing more. But the bottle is so pretty, and the advertising motif with the red roses... So I tested this one too.
At first sniff, I was positively surprised, my sprayed arm smelled intensely of apple. One of those with a red skin, and not too firm flesh, specially bred for discerning older ladies. A lovely apple scent, fresh and natural. Some varieties of roses also smell apple-like, for example, wild roses.
Such a nice simple slightly floral apple scent in pretty packaging I would have spontaneously taken with me if it had been at a correspondingly lower price at Yves Rocher. But it wasn't, and I preferred to give it more time.
The scent developed further into the aquatic and then became increasingly synthetic; on the skin, it almost completely evaporated after 1-2 hours. The apple-like scent only lingered on the sleeve.
Musk and Cashmeran seem to form this sticky-sweet slightly scratchy cheap base that ruins the perfume for me.
Sandalwood is nowhere to be found. Neroli definitely not either. If I knew what papaya blossom smells like? Maybe like apple? It's a shame that the opening doesn't hold.
I'm sure I will test it again, as I often browse around in stores. But probably only out of boredom or because I don't want to acknowledge the similarity in quality to drugstore fragrances that cost a tenth of this. Maybe my skin was too dry today...hm?

Flower Meadow

Rosa Excelsa reminds me of a fresh flower meadow in spring. Light roses, soft blooms, and that airy feeling when walking through warm, blooming fields. For me, it's one of my favorite scents - simply clean, floral, and beautifully feminine. Unfortunately, it is no longer produced, which is very sad. Does anyone happen to know where I can still buy it?
