Balanced and less synthetic, but not necessarily "more intense"...
The topic simply won't die. For more than two years, the big companies have been rolling out one "Intense" offshoot after another onto the global stage! Whether "Extreme," "Night," "Noir," "Nuit," or the romantically named "Intense" - every newcomer or major classic is outfitted with a "fly," dressed in evening attire, and subjected to refinement. Sometimes this works well (Dior Homme Intense), and sometimes it’s a misstep in the form of total superfluity (Paco Rabanne One Million Intense or Joop! Homme Extreme). With Boss Bottled Intense, it seems to have almost worked - but let's take it step by step...
The manifest all-rounder from Metzingen has been delighting or annoying the fragrance community for nearly 20 years. The classic office scent with the typical Hugo Boss apple note thrilled me in the early 2000s. My interest began with the fragrant copy "Extase Pure Passion Man," from which I emptied several bottles. However, after two Boss Bottled flacons, my love and affection were over! Even though I don't encounter the perfume in everyday life as often as, for example, a Le Male or Dior Homme - I simply couldn't stand the scent anymore, even though I have a similarly structured counterpart in my collection with "Sander For Men"! Nevertheless, in my eyes, Boss Bottled is a scent with character! It is unobtrusive, has a high recognition value, and is Boss's "flagship," and it probably has the most flankers with "Bottled Night," "Bottled Sport," "Bottled Unlimited," and the new "Bottled Intense"! The latter will only be released in a few days/weeks, so I consider myself lucky to have received a sample before the official launch!
Compared to a current manufacturer sample, I find the following comparison: The Intense has a fruitier opening compared to the original! Orange blossom carries a hint of exoticism - without being kitschy! The original EDT, on the other hand, starts somewhat dull, flat, and even synthetic. This seems to be due to the current reformulation!? It wasn't like that back then! The further scent comparison seems almost 1:1. There are merely nuances that appear slightly different in the Intense, but they are more attractively highlighted. In the original, everything feels very complex and linear! I perceive the Intense as a touch drier and more austere overall. Less green and a hint less sweet.
However, despite all the positive points, my enthusiasm remains limited! Despite the designation "Intense," the intensity is more bad than good! The scent is absolutely close to the body (similar to the current original), and I can no longer perceive it after just three hours! On my forearm, fragments are still present after 10 hours, but you really have to press your nose to it! Thus, a big downside in performance and longevity! But the classic Bottled doesn't convince me (anymore) either - it doesn't last longer!
In summary, the new Bottled Intense is more balanced, deeper than the current original version - overall more harmonious and attractive! The classic Bottled seems somehow more artificial than it did 10 years ago! Nevertheless, Boss Bottled and I will no longer be friends - neither the original nor the Intense!
