A laid back, chilled out, soothing iced tea fragrance
I find HUGO fragrances to be quite a hit or a miss these days. Luckily HUGO Iced is one of the former, being a hit imo.

As someone who drinks a lot of tea to the point that when family members go on holidays or small trips to local sight seeing locations which often have gift shops, or for Christmas and birthdays, they will often present me with all sorts of flavoured teas. So, it is surprising that I only own one fragrance that has a prominent tea note in it. However I think HUGO Iced makes up for the lack of tea fragrances as it is a good one in which the tea note can be easily found as it is not mixed with an arm’s length list of notes to go with it, thus allowing the tea note to shine, or in this case brew. The other two notes complement it well as I feel this is blended nicely.

I like to use this on days when I don’t want to be wearing my usual attention grabbing fragrances. I don’t say that in a way to mean that it doesn’t smell nice, but rather that it is a subtle scent, very easy on the nose making it good for things like appointments at the hospital or doctors where you may wish to wear something that won’t impose on everyone around you, and even if they do smell it, it’s not going to be harsh. It is very mellow. It is also good for times when you want to give your nose a break, or if you are already on a break from fragrances to reset any nose blindness, but you remember that you have an appointment you forgot about. In those moments this makes for an easy reach that won’t disrupt that break too much as the projection is not strong, not to say that you won’t smell it on yourself, you will, but the notes are not the kind that are going to have you going nose blind to them any time soon even if you overspray. It does have great longevity though. I put this on yesterday for a trip to the hospital at roughy 13:30pm and at 11pm I was still getting small whiffs of it coming from my skin amazingly without over spraying. I can actually still smell something reminiscent of it when i make movements as I write this the morning after. That is probably because of the break I am on which I do find allows me to smell fragrances for a lot longer than usual after a break for 5 or more days.

HUGO Iced is also very good for hot days as the name suggests. Spray this on in sweltering heat and you will indeed get a nice cooling effect from it.

For the price of this I think it is great. You probably won’t find it in the silvery bottles anymore but rather in the urn like shaped bottles instead, which is what I got. I am unsure why HUGO does this with other fragrances also where they have the same fragrance in two different types of bottles, but I don’t mind it in all honesty.

I am at a place in my collection where I can appreciate all kinds of fragrance and although I usually prefer loud attention grabbing fragrances, I also appreciate fragrances like HUGO Iced that while cheap still smells good and has a laid back soothing feel to it, and while before when I first bought and tested this, I wasn’t really sure when and where I would wear it at first, but it has definitely found a place in my collection that it can be used for and has been worn multiple times, and each time I wear it I welcome the smell and am glad to have it on me again.

I could see this being a signature scent for some, the perfect cup of tea you could say, and even if it isn’t your cup of tea there isn’t much to hate about it. It really is a pleasant smell that if someone else was wearing I would be happy to be around them all day and with its good longevity that will work.

This is definitely one of the HUGO fragrances that I do recommend, and it may not end up in your favourite fragrance of all time list, but I also don’t think it would end up in your most hated fragrances list either.

Another reason I can see this being appealing is that if the sound of taking a break from fragrances, even if it will allow you to enjoy them even more so at the end of the break, but you feel you can’t go a day without, then this is one that you could wear instead of taking a break as I have worn this twice during my break in the last week and I am still feeling the benefits that I would of if I had not worn a fragrance at all. So be kind to your nose and it will return the favour and allow you to smell things for longer, and remind you of some notes you forgot were in some of your favourite fragrances that you wear all the time. Like a cup of tea that us Brits love when we are feeling down or in need of comfort and regeneration, tea is always the go to drink we offer our loved ones when in time of sadness or just to relax, and in kind I offer this tea fragrance as a way to do so but from the form of scent instead of taste. So, I hope you will join me and have a soothing, relaxing spray of tea.

Score time.

Crisp and Cool
This one closely resembles Hugo Reversed in the opening which is a type of minty green bitter orange that is very crisp, fresh and uplifting. I don't get any synthetic type notes but a rather very natural and genuinely refreshing ‘ice cool’ experience. The mint remains right through to the earthy/woody dry down. This is a mass appealing fragrance and blind buy worthy.

Sporty mint and Liptons tea
It starts out as a sporty mint scent and then becomes a mellow and musty sweet Liptons tea scent. It reminds me of a chill backyard bbq during a beautiful sunset where iced tea is being served. It then becomes sweeter and more mellow. It lasted a decent amount of time on my skin. I'm not sure about the others. A little unique for a budget friendly Hugo scent. I never thought a Summer tea scent could exist. Summer scents are a hard find and so are tea scents which almost always STRICTLY for Fall. Most fixate on their Winter and Fall collection and completely ignore Summer and Spring. Hugo gets a lot of flack for lacking artistic depth. This is good and simple, but still artistic.

Tea and Mint Leaves
The sample I received with a purchase was used up today. In fact, I only wore the scent when I was traveling. I tend to get a bit of travel sickness, and a fresh and light fragrance helps with that.

The dominant impression here is fresh mint leaves on green iced tea. There’s also something citrusy in the mix. Fresh, light, and pleasant. Even very natural. However, I am somewhat bothered by the mustiness that is unfortunately typical for the brand. I initially suspected the vetiver base, but vetiver usually only shows up after a few hours and doesn’t smell musty at all; it does, however, make the scent a bit more masculine.

Aside from the slight mustiness, I am bothered by how incredibly flat Hugo Iced comes across. There is simply no sillage. Perhaps the scent is meant to be a cologne, but it lasts quite a while nonetheless. It’s just a bit frustrating because the scent itself is really pleasant, and I would love to have a bit more of it.

Whether I will ultimately buy it, I am not sure yet. I am a bit torn. It definitely belongs to the better Boss fragrances for me. Still, some things do bother me.

I would classify it as absolutely unisex. Only the base, with the vetiver, as mentioned, comes across as somewhat masculine.

I would like to highlight positively that Hugo Iced not only smells very authentic of mint and tea, but that it also leaves out any sugary stuff and all floral notes. This really bothered me, for example, with Armani's Acqua di Gioia. If Hugo Iced were a bit stronger, it would be a pleasant yet straightforward scent. Not playful or flirty, but also not outdated. Serious yet likable.

Typical Boss
I received the fragrance as a sample and tested it for that reason. Based on my previous experiences with Boss fragrances, I wouldn't have done so otherwise.

Fragrance progression:
The scent starts off very fresh-aquatic, slightly fruity. The fruit (watermelon mixed with mandarin?) has a somewhat aquatic-orange quality, but is almost immediately overshadowed by the mint, creating a very fresh, minty-ethereal, slightly fruity impression. In my opinion, this opening is the best phase of the fragrance and raises hopes for a beautiful development.
However, this is not carried through as I would have liked. Quite quickly, the scent fades and the typical synthetic Boss note develops. Here, I get the impression of a thin little water, evoking associations with a shower gel. The sillage also decreases significantly during this phase.
Following this, a slightly piercing note develops, possibly pepper or cypress. Tea is listed in the heart note of the pyramid. If it is black tea, that could align with the scent impressions.
After about 1.5 hours, the base note comes through, making the fragrance a bit softer (sweeter woody tone) and rounder. A slightly floral, delicately orange-bitter tone also emerges, and the sillage increases a bit again.
In the further course, however, the fragrance becomes increasingly thinner and more synthetic.

Longevity and sillage:
The fragrance lasts quite long (about 8 hours noticeable), but the sillage is almost consistently very weak.

Bottle:
It always reminds me of a plastic drinking bottle. I don't particularly like it.

Conclusion:
A typical synthetic Boss fragrance that quickly squanders its beautiful opening. Underdeveloped, thin, and not particularly high quality. Those who like it can wear it on many occasions and seasons.

I tired this and loved it, I carried on browsing for about 20 minutes and then went to pay, by that time I realized the scent was gone

This actually has very good longevity. It is easy on the nose while being refreshing and soothing which is probably from the tea note.

This is clearly Armani Code Sport Athlete 2012 copy/paste , but very low key and artificial , high heat kills it in a minutes - good price

Very refreshing in the first 10 minutes - unfortunately fades away quickly. Reminds me of Gucci PHII. Can be, but doesn’t have to be ;)

Oh, Hugo, what am I supposed to think? Such a promising start, but then it disappears after an hour. This won't work for us...
