Lovely Rose with longevity
Lovely, elegant, sensual, luxurious. The Damask Rose is obviously the star, and the amber, oud, and white musk add a powdery, resinous, animalic quality that makes it nothing like, for example, Portrait of a Lady (which has the sweetness of fruits with clove and patchouli to create a much smokier, sweeter Turkish Rose). I enjoy Portrait of a Lady, but I like Rose & White Musk Absolu more.
The white musk here adds that "fresh laundry" or "clean" aspect that pairs well with the oud, adding a longevity with their combined tenacity. The oud and musk together reads animalic to me in the way your dog would smell after being sent to a high-ender groomer with fancy shampoos and lightly scented coat sprays.
I normally find myself ambivalent or underwhelmed with the Jo Malone scents I've tried. Too often they begin or end smelling too much like a candle. I will enjoy my sample of this one and would consider a small bottle of it for the right price.
