Whisky & Cedarwood Jo Malone 2017

Of course, the seasonal collection is sold out; I am also too late for my Jo Malone stash.
But the testers are still there, so the way is clear to at least get to know this interesting blend.
We are used to some of Jo Malone's combinations: but whisky - I don't know; I'm curious!

During the usual extensive conversation with the sales assistant, the scent and my perceptions can develop.
I expected "Angel's Mist": that hint that arises when the liquid evaporates from the barrels in the cellars of the distilleries.
What I found was an old, full-bodied whisky that invites you to linger.
To linger in a room whose polished wooden floor is only partially covered with carpets. With paneled walls, a fireplace ready to be lit.
Everything is prepared for the hour between day and dream!
Sitting in deep, comfortable armchairs, surrounded by large bouquets of fully blooming garden roses, which soften the scent's masculinity, the hustle and bustle of the day is bid farewell.
With a glass of whisky, good conversations, and (completely out of time) a cigarette.
This is a whisky that, unlike many women, is not ashamed of its age.

Thus, I experience the "body" of this scent, which becomes slightly spicy in the finish. Whether it is really allspice that I perceive, I do not know for sure.
The longevity is mediocre, as with all Malones. One learns to live with that.

"Whisky & Cedarwood" is an extravagant fragrance creation, a bit out of time, with a slightly nostalgic touch. Or is it almost modern again?
A boundary crosser: neither male nor female - a hermaphrodite!
In any case, extraordinary.

I am not sure whether I really like "Whisky & Cedarwood." Maybe I should treat myself to another sniff?
Perhaps next time at Jo Malone. And next time, maybe instead of the usual gin and tonic, a whisky on the rocks?

Okay, unfortunately there is no rum in this fragrance, so I can't sing the pirate song properly and have replaced the rum with whisky instead. How did I come up with pirates? Hmm… oh, don’t bother me with such questions and just keep reading :D
And besides, I've never really been a whisky drinker,… however, a dear friend has taken quite a liking to this alcoholic beverage and will surely be able to tell me one or two interesting details about it while she tries to force me to down some throat-burning whisky, argh… what do I know about whisky? I don’t even know if it’s called whisky or whiskey! :D
She’s probably already drunk and… um… I meant of course she’s already a pro and… oh crap. I always forget that she reads most of my comments too. Now I’m lost again…

But anyway, let’s get back to the fragrance. Whisky & Cedarwood belongs to the new Bloomsbury Collection by Jo Malone, which consists of limited fragrances, and you have to act quickly if you want to get them starting in March.
Because when they are sold out… well, then you have to go on a treasure hunt like a pirate and try to track down the fragrance somehow :D

After Tobacco & Mandarin, this is the second fragrance I’m testing a bit more closely, and I quite like it.

As the name suggests, the fragrance starts with a nice alcoholic note, the whisky, which, however, appears a bit floral-sweet and spring-like thanks to a lovely and very subtle rose, making it also wearable for men due to the low intensity of the rose. Overall, the fragrance quickly comes across as quite masculine, as it becomes woody with the typical, distinctive scent of cedar.
By the way, I could hardly smell the allspice; perhaps it adds a slightly spicy note in the background. Be that as it may, the fragrance remains alcoholic due to the whisky and woody due to the… well… woody notes (what else? :D), with the difference that in the base the woody notes are stronger than the whisky. A simple but really great fragrance that feels warm.

I’m still not quite sure about the sillage and need to test the fragrance a few more times, as it came across quite well once and rather average another time. It doesn’t seem to be very strong, but rather above average, and should smell reasonably good up close.
The fragrance lasts six to seven hours, which I find okay, although it does smell noticeably weaker after four to five hours.

The bottle is rectangular and small, as it is only available in a 30 mL version. On the front, there is a design reminiscent of abstract color field painting, which alludes to the inspiration of the fragrance, namely the Bloomsbury Group. The cap is cylindrical and light brown. A nice bottle that brings a great change from the almost always identical Jo Malone bottles.

Oh, the fragrance is great, great, great. Whisky and wood convey a wonderful feeling, even though the fragrance itself is quite simply constructed. It’s somehow sexy and, despite its not overly intense projection, suitable as an evening fragrance. Moreover, I would call it an all-rounder, as I think it fits into every season. Sure, in winter it is weaker outdoors, but the fragrance unfolds particularly well on colder days, especially indoors. For example, in a nice restaurant/lounge/bar etc. with a cozy atmosphere.

As mentioned, the fragrance is unfortunately limited, so testing it is definitely recommended if you find it appealing and would like to have it.

Well, and what if they are sold out later? Well,… just remember that I initially thought of pirates. So, gouge out an eye, put on a patch (okay,… maybe you can skip the eye-gouging part and just put a patch over your good eye; no one will notice… :D), take a knife between your teeth, and go on a scent hunt with sword and flintlock pistol! Maybe you’ll get lucky and discover a bottle :D
