Simple Tranquility
Hinoki & Cedarwood was love at first sniff for me. I've been curious about Hinoki notes for awhile and this fragrance served as my introduction to the note while leaving me both impressed and hungry for more!

This opens with a gorgeous cinnamon sprinkled soapy accord that makes me think of a high end, quiet sauna. The slight spice lingers as the strongest woody top notes begin to evaporate giving me a cola adjacent vibe on my skin. As the spices continue to fade, the soapiness remains and mingles with the light and distinguished woody aroma of hinoki. From there the fragrance stays linear as it dries down, keeping up the uniquely fresh and luxurious smelling clean woody accord.

This is a great fragrance to wear when looking for something light, airy and fresh and is perfect for fall weather but can easily be worn year round. It's definitely not a strong, spicy woody fragrance, but rather a very peaceful, uplifting scent reminiscent of a breeze in a quiet forest clearing. I've shied away from Jo Malone in the past due to performance concerns but I find that this fragrance has impressive longevity for how light it is. While it sits close to the skin and does not have much in the way of silage/projection, I get about 7-8 hours on skin and all day on clothes.

This is perfect to wear when looking for something calming, but relaxing. It's not like a Wūlóng Chá Extrait de Parfum that calms in an uplifting, invigorating way. This calms in a tranquil soft way that just leaves you feeling clean, clear headed and ready to find peace in your day. I'm happy to own this in my collection and will be reaching for it a lot this fall. Sample first!

Underwhelming soap and synthetic woods
Opens aldehydic, soapy, slightly aromatic. Hinoki wood and cedar wood are both "dry" smelling woods so it surprised me that the drydown here is decidedly "wet." Earthy and loamy rather than sharp woods and pencil shavings. I guess I was expecting a rich lavender with a smoky sharp hinoki and got old-timey soap and Clearwood (a "clean" patchouli aromachemical) instead.

If you like this profile, I'd suggest trying New Look. It goes more all-in on the aldehydes, and I much prefer the gorgeous smoky frankincese as the background than this messy attempt at a woody accord. And the price is comparable too (New Look is $165 for 40ml while Hinoki & Cedarwood is $160 for 50ml). However it is MUCH more polarizing, but that's what comes with specificity.

Hinoki & Cedarwood
I tried a sample of this. When I sprayed it on paper it smelled like a slightly woody, warm cinnamon. However when I sprayed it on my skin, it smelled EXACTLY like coca cola. I wasn't getting the woodiness or the cinnamon anymore, just straight coca cola. Not for me, but if you've been looking to smell like soda, this may be the fragrance for you!

Creamy aromatic woods with some soap
I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but this one smells similar to the Fabuloso Lavender cleaner but this is one is less harsher on the nose and more woodsier.

At first wear, I get an image of wet wooden spa with a hint of coconut for some reason. It lasted nicely on my clothes for the whole 8hrs. However, when I had to clean up the floors, I noticed I smelled something like Hinoki and cedarwood. To my dismay, it was the Fabuloso Lavender cleaner we had. I'm not so sure of buying the full bottle anymore though. I think I'll just finish my decant for now.

A Stroll Through ...
... the forest in the cool late autumn. Fir trees have been cut down, the branches stripped of their twigs, now drying in the lukewarm midday sun. Fir and spruce resin, still liquid and viscous, release their enchanting scent together with the light citrus notes of the fir needles. Now there's a hint of incense coming from afar. Does it bring that very, very delicate sweetness? No, it has already disappeared again. Did I just imagine it? Now something else is joining in that I haven't smelled before. A fresh breeze from the north? Yes, I believe so. It is now cool and fresh. The wonderful green with the juicy wood remains for a long time. I feel alive.

Smells like stepping into a luxury wooden sauna after using natural, aromatic/lavender soap or lotion. Clean, grounding, and intensely woody

Smells like entering a wooden sauna on a SPA day. Really relaxing scent. Small hints of eucalyptus in the beginning - woody in the end.

A little tiring, but pretty and decently performing fragrance that seems to resemble something like woody, aromatic red tea.

Soft/dry cinnamon + smooth/grounding hinoki wood. Clean sweat (slightly metallic, not dirty) in the base. Spa at an upscale ski chalet.

Smells like a very nice winter season candle, but in a good way. Wax, cypress, and cedarwood. Calm, grounding, slightly creamy and sweet.

It's not listed here, but a JM sales rep said that there was clove and cinnamon in the top notes. JM Hong Kong also says there's lavender.

This is freaking amazing, it smells like a spa with cinnamon added but the spa is in... the middle of a scandinavian forest covered by snow?

Sampled this on skin and paper. It's a pleasant fragrance. Starts off clean, drying down into an easy wearing scent. It's nice but generic.
