Lacoste? - Yuck!
Back then - in the 80s - Lacoste was our absolute hate brand. Whoever showed up with it had already lost. The Lacoste polo was bought when the son of a bourgeois family wanted to wear something sporty! Lacoste was for the guys with side parts who were focused on getting into the best university and the most beneficial student fraternity - basically, the type of guys who always chose the back entrance with the professor.

Opportunism as a way of life - what fits better than a mindless polo shirt adorned with a tiny, slimy reptile?

By now, this image has somewhat faded - the polo shirt can be seen on all sorts of people who just can't think of anything better. The same goes for the often meager fragrances from Lacoste - what remains is a lack of imagination and the desire not to disturb further.

With the three L.12.12 fragrances, the concept of the four colorful pony scents from Ralph Lauren has been copied. Like those, these are mostly boring and average in every respect: typical designer fragrances that are probably cheap in terms of cost and are meant to fit the brand's image.

After a quick preliminary test on paper strips, L.12.12 Green seemed to be the most interesting of the trio. L.12.12 Green has the thin grapefruit note typical of sporty fragrances, which smells somewhat synthetic and lingers far too long for a citrus note. It is enhanced with a subtly used melon or cucumber-like freshness. Herbal-green notes are present but not easily identifiable. Behind it all is a dry, dark, and almost sensual note, perhaps a cheap amber. It scratches a bit at first, so L.12.12 Green takes a little time to develop. But then it turns into a nice, pleasant fresh scent with even a bit of depth, which, well, doesn’t disturb further.

To be honest, you don't expect much from Lacoste. Given that, L.12.12 Green is almost exciting and sexy, though not too much. One should add a small dose of office sweat to that. I wonder if that will be useful for Mr. Müller from accounting when he has to use all his charm again at nine in the morning at the ID badge office?

L.12.12 Green is a simple, affordable office scent that is wearable for everyone. In the Lacoste online shop (models with side parts!) you can get the 30 ml for a still reasonable €40. And so we must acknowledge that Lacoste has not quite succeeded with this perfume in reconnecting to its former image.

Broad Sports
How much these oh-so-creative trios hit the mark was recently shown by Lauren's colorful pony farm ("They only trotted for one summer"), Lagerfeld's shockingly average "Capsule" series (now everywhere at bargain prices), or the snappy Blu/Verde/Giallo trio from Benetton, which hardly even appeared on the shelves of most retail stores in the Federal Republic.

The consumer's suspicion is justified that with such marketing gimmicks, the art of perfumery might be somewhat overshadowed by product diversification aimed at triple-siphoning the rather youthful clientele. Why release just one perfume when the uncertain buyer can be hooked with three if necessary?

The interest in broadly spread product ranges lasted in the mentioned examples hardly any longer than the usual half-life of a DSDS winner.

It is hardly likely that Lacoste's polo shirt fragrances will be any different, as all three are generic and no less synthetic 08/15 scents that seem to scream "Rossi" and "Schlecki" from head to base note. Seen this way, the "adult" price is quite steep, especially considering that the shirts with the crocodile can no longer quite pass as the "dernier cri" of the fashion scene and Lacoste has never been a high-end perfume label in over 25 years.

Nevertheless, there are slight differences between the three questionable fragrances:

- VERT is the most mature in the bunch. It takes on the role of guiding the impressionable young lad away from his confirmation "Bottled" and onto the forest path. Only those traumatized by Gaultier would likely perceive it as truly green, but still, it is quite fresh and, above all, not too sweet.

- BLEU would like to wear the captain's hat, but it lacks a bit of the fresh sea breeze a la melon (or Calone), as that was already used in the green brother. Aquatic yes, but rather with brackish water idyll in calm winds. We were off Madagascar...

- BLANC The powdery-sweet gourmand representative of the trio. If Sebastian claims it smells like freshly washed tennis socks, it can only be because he considers "1 Million" a full detergent. Those who enjoy "Fleur Du Male" and similar squeaky scents will know how to appreciate it; I certainly do not.

The importance of being green
I happily tried out the L. range - and some of the colorful bottles had to come home.

Lacoste surprises me with imaginative "immersers" that brighten and beautify everyday life.
I also appreciate the fair prices.

Today I wanted to stock up on the delicious pink strawberry scent - but my fragrance dealer and my husband both unanimously recommended the "green" crocodile.

I was easily persuaded, as this scent is interestingly sweet - green.
Very appealing and likable.

Strangely, it is listed here as a purely men's fragrance, as I find it at least unisex.

The bergamot - ozone note is airy and harmonizes with the cool melon.
Perfect for summer.
The lavender is calm and also cool - sweetened by the ripe fig.
Iris has a slight powdery touch - and the woods support the homogeneous scent.

A trusting crocodile that reminds me of Kermit when he, accompanied by Brönner's trumpet, intones: The Importance of being green.

A wonderful addition to my collection.

A Croco Must Be Green!
Hmm, strange. I always thought that I had already written a comment about the green Lacoste, but apparently, I forgot it. Even though this comment probably won't interest anyone anymore, I just have to publish it, as it won't let me rest since I have already described the other five fragrances from the L.12.12 line. Besides, the little Croco is just so cute, right? :) *grrrr* *snap* *snap*

The scent:
The scent actually starts off quite nicely, as it smells pleasantly of melon. I could best perceive this note in the top notes, accompanied by a bit of bergamot and grapefruit.
The heart note kicks in just a few minutes after spraying, and you can smell floral and sweet notes. There is lavender and possibly sweet cardamom. The fig, which I was looking forward to, smells great but unfortunately weak; I couldn't find the iris at all. Thyme adds a little and makes the scent slightly spicier.
In the base, it becomes woodier, although in my opinion, the individual woods are not very distinguishable. The weak amber also adds a slight sweetness.
The scent notes may be synthetic, but they don't smell that bad. However, they aren't particularly special either!

Longevity and sillage:
The longevity is at an average level and lasts well on the skin for three to four hours before it weakens.
The sillage is also average; it is noticeable at first, even strong, before it quickly fades.

Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular with rounded corners. True to its name, the transparent bottle is green and has a transparent cap as well. I'm not sure if there were also opaque editions of these bottles, but either way, the bottles look normal, nothing special, but the little cute Croco on the bottles adds a bit of charm, as the Croco is made of fabric and you can stroke it (so cute, yes, I am a child at heart)!

The green scent from Lacoste is not really a standout either. It smells quite nice, but is a bit synthetic and has little to offer, as the delicious-smelling top note dissipates too quickly. After that, a sweet scent with a woody base remains, which is okay, but nothing more.

In my opinion, it is a simple daytime scent for warmer days. Too weak and boring for going out or other special occasions.

You don't necessarily have to test it, and I think that among all the L.12.12 fragrances, the white (blanc) still smells the best.

No Matter How Green: No Reason for Hope
Despite the discouraging examples of boredom that were Blue and White, which I tested recently, I gave the green Lacoste a real chance. Not only because I am a completist (I hardly see red and black), but also because for many, the green Lacoste is the best of the now 5 colors.

It reminds me of a mix between Lacoste Blue and Boss Bottled Sport. That this is not going to be a good mix is something anyone can guess. Still, this blend of green notes, melon, and grapefruit is probably the best color for me. However, it is still far from a recommendation. The green impression is supported by bamboo, lavender, and iris. Unfortunately, I smell far too little of the iris (my favorite note at the moment!), which was clear with a cheap mainstream perfume. Although the color perfumes from Lacoste are not that cheap. But since they all only offer DM-quality, a hasty impression is created that does not cast the entire company in a good light. The fact that the color idea has also been copied from Ralph Lauren does not exactly play in Lacoste's favor either.

The bottle is the same as always - just in green. Sillage is office-appropriate and casually relaxed. A bit too weak for my taste, it almost leans towards sporty. Longevity is acceptable at 6 hours and just barely worth its price.

If you like green fragrances and absolutely want a Lacoste perfume from their color range, you can confidently reach for this average product. But there probably won't be that many... better than Blue and about on the same level as White. A very low level, I must unfortunately say!

I don't think it's that bad at all. Great pleasant freshness in a modern way. More for younger people. Great collection of many fragrance notes.

Vert is the best overlooked Lacoste. L.12.12 Vert is a sunken diamond. Natural and fresh.

My casual scent from 10 years ago, tied to countless great memories. Something synthetic-fresh-green, but not bad at all!

The pyramid is similar to Erolfa, but unfortunately executed in a much more artificial way. Still, it's the second best after the Blanc from the series.
