The Mandarin of the Common Man: Lively, Sparkling, Delicious!
A subtle wooden cap, a simple bottle, mandarin in the title: sometimes it doesn't take much to catch my attention. Why I have arrived at a "Just give me citrus fruits and leave me alone" attitude after a phase of seeking complexity, I don't know - perhaps the heat of the past weeks has gone to my head. The fact is: I love fragrances in warm temperatures that don't overwhelm, that accompany you, and above all, are simple. It's important to know this because if you think similarly, you should pay attention to this summer scent.
“Mandarine Envoûtante” translates to “Enchanting Mandarin.” A wonderful name for a fragrance that delivers just that from the very first second. Here you get mandarin like from a sparkling drink, almost fizzy, extremely lively, and presenting a not at all synthetic, realistic sweetness. This sweetness is strong in the background, as the fruitiness and brightness of this wonderful citrus fruit dominate. Imagine IV Quatre in a more natural form, with mandarin instead of orange, and you get "Mandarine Envoûtante | Les Senteurs Gourmandes." The mandarin can be imagined as well-ripened, large, and juicy; just before the point where it would no longer be enjoyable. This also explains the slight sweetness.
I (thankfully) don't perceive the basil very strongly. Perhaps the greenish hints give the fragrance the balance it needs to avoid drifting into too much sweetness. But I'm not 100% sure. The musk and woods are just as bright as the initially described aura of the mandarin; the fragrance doesn't develop greatly but works delicately to create a sustained composition. So, no complexity, quite straightforward and refreshing... just like the name!
One shouldn't expect miracles from this type of citrus fragrance when it comes to longevity or sillage. The latter is almost nonexistent, and the longevity is a good five hours. I don't mind; I love these realistically fresh summer scents that mentally uplift you. And that's exactly what this one is!
