Vanilla Adventure

With both the Tahitian and Madagascan varieties present, vanilla is what Contre Moi (Against Me) is principally about. Pretty sure Contre is meant to mean "against" as in "opposed to" rather than "contacting." At any rate, with cocoa present this fragrance has a gourmand feel, deepened by muskily interesting ambrette seed. The non-sweet florals make it perfume. What does it smell like? You're in Paris, heading back to your hotel with everything needed for a picnic in your room--flowers from the fleuriste, slices of flavorful cold cuts from the charcuterie, cheese from the fromagerie, a fresh baguette from the boulangerie, a sinful dessert from the pâtisserie, a bottle of wine, of course. Nowadays it's possible to grab them all in one place, but for me this is the smell of a traditional food adventure--deliciousness bought individually to assemble. The website implies Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud wants the fragrance to say rebellion, but smelling Contre Moi makes me want to be in Paris, about to have this meal. A man or a woman could wear it and be found worldly.

Smells great on clothes

It took me awhile to like this perfume. I enjoy vanilla fragrances, and this one is a little bit unusual. I can’t really put my finger on it. Maybe it’s the rose that makes it more interesting. It actually smells better on my clothes than it does on my skin and I enjoy spraying a little bit on my winter coat.
This is a comforting perfume, not sexy. You could wear it anywhere and be OK. It has really good longevity but the sillage is only 12 inches tops.
It’s a very expensive perfume and I probably won’t ever buy a large bottle.

Instant love

I received a sample of contre moi a few days ago and I must say I was pleasantly surprised.
it starts fresh and fruity and then dries up and the character takes a hit, it is as if it gradually warms up more and more. it doesn't have a very great evolution except for the fact that in the middle of its duration, a sort of twist occurs, perhaps due to the pear note, I didn't quite understand but I will study it better.
In my opinion, the perfume is worth buying, but at the original price, because it is now discontinued and is found at a truly excessive price for what it is.
as always I advise against the blind buy, see you next time :)

Not a love due to the powdery old fashioned note

On my skin, a powdery-floral “vintage” note really comes through. Does anyone know which note causes this?
Maybe it is the magnolia.
At first spray, I didn’t like it due to this powdery note. Now sniffing it the second time, it has some appeal. Not a love but maybe it is a scent to get used to.
Projection is really intimate, can only smell with my nose up on my arm.
Don’t think I will purchase this

Turning Your Back on the World

This is what the wise and wonderful Elke Heidenreich called a story fifteen years ago, in which she (among other things) reports how people in the overwhelming and breathless early phase of their love turn only to each other, making everything else - the whole world - unimportant and irrelevant. She illustrates this with the example of a couple who, for ten days, give themselves only to closeness and intimacy in the bedroom - not noticing how 'outside' the Berlin Wall is falling in the meantime.

A particularly common criticism of perfumes that are a bit more expensive and therefore expected to deliver more is that 'the scent is too inconspicuous and quiet' and 'after two hours, you can't smell anything anyway,' hence: that you get nothing for your money. Aside from the fact that I do not share the causal connection of 'if I invest money, I want a lot of longevity and sillage' at all - aren't it often the intimate and quiet scent moments that hold preciousness and beauty?

Contre Moi - what a tender name! - is a quiet and subtle vanilla scent - melting like butter, but not a gourmand. And because there is no shortage of loud and overwhelming vanilla fragrances, this makes it special. To create such a private and restrained perfume from a scent note that has been smelled a thousand times, which Barbara Schöneberger-like blasts from all directions like a fairground trumpet - and I really do quite like Barbara Schöneberger - I find this idea wonderful.

Contre Moi is a scent like a whispered promise. Like small, sweet lies that even a child wouldn't believe. When the bed becomes an island, a refuge, and a church. A scent like warm skin on warm skin. While the sun sets outside and rises again - and then sets again. When the leftovers from the fridge - eaten from the other’s tender hand in bed - are more delicious than ambrosia. When we believe that the scent on the back of the other is the only reason we breathe.

Conclusion: not a party scent. Not an office scent. Just you and me. Forever.
