The Lawyer of Ouds
I speak here on behalf of my client. Mr. Oud has asked me to convey the following to you:

I would like to express my strong displeasure, not only about the mere mention but also about the fact that the adjective "Pure" has been placed before my name. To speak of "pure Oud" and then to forcibly associate me with two chemicals, despite being a representative of natural ingredients, is not only unpleasant but also damaging to my reputation.

I am in no way dependent on the accompaniment of such substances and find the behavior of the defendants not only misleading but also ingredient-centric. I can provide the notes you have so prosaically embellished in your advertising, if only you had given me the appropriate freedom to do so.

Not only do you boast on your website about adding me in a concentration of 10%, but you actually have the audacity to refer to this amount as an "immoderate dose." The artisan artists who extract me from the wood with great effort and love allow me to shine in high-quality Oud fragrances with concentrations of up to 30%. And they do not feel the need to apostrophize such processes with the word "Pure," but simply let me speak to the noses of fragrance lovers.

You harness me as a draft horse for your advertising cart and still do not consider it necessary to adequately describe me or at least my provenance, thus imposing a high risk on unsuspecting buyers. Given the current selling price of approximately €1,250 per bottle, I consider your behavior irresponsible.

For the reasons mentioned above, I expressly distance myself from the product "Pur Oud | Louis Vuitton."

Oud

Postscript from the Oud Lawyer:
In fact, the fragrance is not unbearably bad for a niche brand (Caution!!! I am explicitly not talking about artisan or independent brands, in whose hands Oud should actually remain and would likely be processed much more appropriately and of higher quality). I would compare it to, for example, "The Spirit of Dubai - Baz | Nabeel." It is quite animalistic, but not barnyard. It then becomes woody and unfortunately also somewhat soapy, which can be attributed to those terrible notes Helvetolide® and Ambrettolid. That would be like painting a finely polished cross-section of beautifully grained root wood with opaque gray acrylic paint.

What adds to the difficulty is the astronomical price, which is certainly called for largely due to the resonant brand name and with the knowledge of a very solvent clientele that is only satisfied if the fragrance bears this and no other brand name and also ensures that the price is so high that not just anyone can buy it. You would probably spend even more. In this regard, the pricing is understandable from the producer's perspective, and anything else would be foolish and lost profit from their point of view.

Anyone looking for an old oak table made of solid wood should not do so at a very large Scandinavian furniture chain and should also independently verify whether it is indeed pure oak wood.

Punk!
During one of my recent visits to Louis Vuitton in Milan, I learned that there is still a bottle of Pur Oud available there - and thus also a tester. This is not a given, Pur Oud is limited and sold out almost everywhere, not available online either.

I love the idea that LV pursues with Pur Oud, which is completely atypical for a house that has dedicated itself to Western luxury in archetypal form and in its high-volume products to the almost exorbitantly priced mainstream.

And mainstream is absolutely nothing with Pur Oud. The scent is archaic, harsh, and ultra-aggressive. Pur is clearly unbearable, that is obvious. The fragrance is shocking for non-Die-Hard-Oud fans, which I also directly experienced in the boutique. ;-)

Personally, I lack the experience in terms of Oud for a final assessment of the composition, but why would LV trick in any way here? That would clearly contradict the concept.

The dry down is then very conciliatory, very warm, woody, and in a certain way attractive. But this comes so late that it is practically unusable.

Certainly, promising experiments in layering can be conducted here, but I also lack the experience for that and I still prefer to reach for well-balanced Oud-plus-x compositions.

Conclusion: I love the idea, the courage, the presentation, the quality, and the performance. Unfortunately, I cannot handle Pur Oud - but that is on me.

An End Product
Right off the bat, I really like Oud and I certainly have 30 different Oud fragrances. I have tried this one twice, and therefore I allow myself to write a review. When a fragrance is extremely expensive, I expect something truly special. Well, this one is indeed special, it is the worst Oud scent I have ever smelled. An extreme dung smell - pure animalic comes rushing out of the bottle. But who? Who wants to smell like excrement? This is NOT typical Oud, that is what you keep reading about here. Real good Oud from the Arab countries smells a thousand times finer, more different, and more complex than this. Presumably, this fragrance aims to shock, and the very honest LV saleswoman also said she finds it disgusting. Nobody buys it, it is a curiosity. Unfortunately, the fecal smell does not diminish over time, and nothing really new comes along. It lacks development. So, definitely try it and laugh. You can't say more about it.

Shocking
The thing with oud is quite a topic. A perfumer once said that there is a clear distinction between the conventionally Germanized oud and real oud.
The conventional one is probably more palatable for many noses, while the "real" one has, among other things, this extremely potent animalic quality.

Pur Oud is indeed pure animalic.
In the form I know from the first seconds of Ombre Nomade or Outcast Blue Extrait de Parfum. The Pur Oud maintains this throughout. All the time.

It can't be put any other way, but it smells as if one had feces on their skin.
It might work to layer it into something wearable. But 1500€ for a "maybe"?

Overcoming Costs Something
First of all, I have to say that I don't have a trained nose in the field of Oud.

As has been described here often, I also perceive
the first 10 minutes as stable, which can be a bit off-putting and I definitely don't want to smell like that...
But then a very beautiful note emerges that I truly appreciate in Ombre Nomade [leathery, aromatic, and woody]
And I find myself reaching for it again and again.
From that moment on, I asked those around me what they thought of it, and there was only positive feedback.
But everyone described it as very warm, masculine, distinctive, but not intrusive.
I then mixed it with ON and was thrilled; it makes the whole scent even deeper.
In summary, one must say that it is definitely not worth its price, but it certainly does not deserve such a bad rating.

Smells like a Rasasi or Ajmal perfume with higher quality musks and Cambodian Oud. Nothing like the Night from FM which is wow.

I don't have a trained nose yet. I smelled the fragrance at Oberpollinger and I think it smells like a mix of cheese feet and manure.

Warm Hindi Oud
with a sour animalic touch.
Assam cows like it.
Unfortunately, it becomes too tame
quickly with a dry woody base
lacking much allure.

Super intense Assam-Oud with a hint of musk. Smoky, dark, simple, and slightly animalistic. P/L minus, but still extremely awesome!
