Juvenile cherry leather
Oud Stallion isn't groundbreaking. If you've dabbled in leather perfumes, you've likely smelled this before. Floral and fruity nuances are used to bring liveliness to leathery and woody notes.

It opens with rose oxide sourness, cherry sweetness and an almondy facet from benzaldehyde. Sweet contrast to western oud accord is further supported by a touch of cinnamon. The overall scent profile leans youthful, making for a pleasant wear.

Similarly to Oud Maracujá and Oud Cadenza, Jordi utilizes a neat mixture of spices and aroma chemicals with fresh, citrusy and piney qualities. Thus, car interior leather and fake oud are very easy to digest, almost like an appetizer.

After 30 minutes, I'm picking up leather, cherry and jammy rose (think somewhere between lychee and raspberry) grounded by dry cedarwood. The bubblegummy undertone becomes more apparent once coumarin and vanillin show up, along with chocolaty patchouli.

Performance is in line with other Crivelli extraits. 32% oil concentration offers great longevity (10+ hours) with loud initial projection. It's less smoky than Tuscan Leather Eau de Parfum while saffron makes it spicier than London Extrait de Parfum.

Maybe if I was a cowboy
Oud Stallion, relative to the previous release Oud Maracujá, opens more animalic, more aggressive, and it feels like more barnyardy. Just like with Maracuja, there's no actual oud in the scent pyramid - they're using wood & patchouli to offer up that vibe. The main thing you can notice incorporated into the profile is an accord that I can best describe as "oily", like the hydrocarbon vibes you smell in Cuirs or "Join The Club - Don | XerJoff".

Up-close, the blend is a little bit balanced out - there is a pretty notable blend of saffron and cardamom, with the saffron offering mild rubbery tones the same way it does in scents like "The Secret Collection - Scirocco | Moresque". Drydown tones might also evoke comparisons to scents like Blessed Baraka. The rose is invisible for the first ~10 minutes, becomes minimal after that - I wouldn't say the rose is a driving force in this scent by any means.

I think the biggest letdown of this scent comes from the fact that the leather & cedar (fake oud) tones completely overwhelm the scent, and the sweet spices can only do so much to bail it out. That's kind-of where I got the title of this review - the core vibe of the scent is like a leather saddle you put on your horse in the Texas oil country.

Sillage is better than Maracuja's by a point. I came back to revise the review as the scent really did die off just as quick as Maracuja, to the point where I'd say this is weaker in the 10 hour range. Overall, it's a solid release if you want something uber masculine to make a statement with - I'm just not the target demographic.

Pastry chef on a wild horse
I remember sniffing this for the first time in the boutique. A vivid image of a horse popped into my head as I closed my eyes. “I’m in for a ride!” is what I thought, I wasn’t used to these kinds of animalic smells.

Couple of months later I decided to buy the discovery set on which this review is based. Now having worn it a couple of times I found it time for a review.

First spray. The stuff is full of heavy materials like wood, nutmeg and leather. And something volatile, medicinal, which I now associate with oud somehow. It’s immediately apparent that it doesn’t need many sprays. It jumps right at your throat. Like riding a crazy horse on a rodeo, the first hour and a half I’m struggling. But then the horse is tamed a bit. I’m getting whiffs of stuff that belong in a kitchen, nutmeg (or cinnamon even?), chocolate, roasted tonka (I’m getting coconut vibes). But that wild horse is still raging in your kitchen while you’re snacking those cakes.

It’s a great adventure but constantly calling your attention. I’m quite sensitive to smells so that drains my battery fast. It’s strong, pungent, tough and right in your face.

Long story short, I love the smell of this but it’s not versatile enough for my taste. I won’t buy a bottle as I don’t see myself wearing it much.

Spicy counterpart to Oud Maracujá
Oud Stallion is a sweet-spicy leather fragrance that contains the same ambrocenide-laden rose/oud as in Oud Maracujá and Ombre Nomade. The oud is more amped up here than in Oud Maracujá, though not by much; it is still mainly a sweet leather scent, though here the sweetness is more synthetic and vague than the passionfruit note in Maracujá. The nutmeg/cardamom combo provides a kind of fall-spicy vibe to the whole thing, and I can swear there is also cinnamon somewhere. I'd say Stallion is the spicy counterpart to Maracujá's fruitiness. I'm going to rate it the same; it's a nice, well balanced composition, just doesn't have that wow factor for me. Dries down with a woody-vanilla-tonka whimper after 4 or so hours of decent projection.

Also zusammengefasst:

-ein absoluter Statement Duft
- dunkel, tief und mysteriös
- extrem sexy
- Komplimentegetter
- universell einsetzbar

Tuscan Leather in a tux. Doesn’t smoke, avoids the rodeo. Spices, sweet rose and polished leather on a base of oud, patchouli and dry cedar.

Non-animalic suede leather with a slight “oudy” background. Some sweetness from the tonka. Good performance. Very very boring.

Much less challenging than anticipated; lightly animalic leather with tropical fruit nuance and a smooth, woody, somewhat metallic finish.

A seemingly normal oud-rose with metric tonnes of safraleine added on top. Rubbery, a little peachy, and clean. Fernández makes magic again.

Leather/oud accords with a hydrocarbon vibe, aided by the sweet spices (saffron/cardamom) and mild rose. Uber masculine, fall-winter.

Pleasant oud/leathery rose combo. Very pleasant and good longevity but where is the stallion?
