Oh - well
The Montale fragrances either elicit a joyful Oh la la - or an irritated Oh well.

However, when reading the ingredient list, I was in a positive mood, as lavender always suits me, and oud, when it’s not too spicy.

But the first spray leaves me taken aback.
I have never smelled such a harsh lavender before. The oud stands its ground against it - and I envision two strong little rams measuring strength, heads pressed together, unwilling to give an inch.

And that’s how the main players, lavender and oud, behave as well.
Both vehemently shout " Here! " and do so with an unpleasant sharpness.
The other listed ingredients are not recognizable behind the " fighting rams."

A brittle scent - without commitment.
The pyramid sounded so interesting.

Perhaps a fragrance for gentlemen who like dominant scents?

I prefer the more pleasing Montales.

Two Klutzes at the Waltz
Montale is a brand where the hurried & overwhelming quantity of fragrances not only often suffers in terms of quality & originality, but as a consumer, you hardly feel inclined to engage with it more closely. You are simply overwhelmed, confused & much of it not only sounds similar, it also smells that way - I’m just saying Rose + (A)Oud. Sometimes, however, you have to jump over your shadow & so it happened that I had a Montale in front of my nose once again today. Once again Aoud, only this time with lavender - an unusual combination that piques curiosity.

Another disappointment & quick shot? Or a little masterpiece in the mud, like "Chocolate Greedy" or "Intense Cafe"?

Aoud Lavender starts promisingly aggressive, with a somewhat synthetic lavender steam hammer that, while sharp, cutting & hardcore, does have something to it. The usually smooth-soothing flower is here at the beginning ruffled & overshadows everything. Unfortunately, this top note is already the highlight - and if you can excellently argue about the highlight, that doesn’t bode well for the perfume.

For now, the aggressiveness of the lavender subsides, it becomes creamier, oudier & quieter, and it reveals what a synthetically-boring mush has actually been squished together here. Not only does oud & lavender struggle to get along, the lavender used is simply outrageously cheap & artificial, at drugstore level. The oud is the usual Montale oud, which is fine. But the rest is weak. No, I don’t want to smell like this, the initially overpowering lavender that then ruins everything clearly goes the wrong way here. Not a good scent, not a game changer for Montale.

Bottle: I like the Montales in purple-black the best!
Sillage: close to a monster, especially exuberant at the beginning. Then it retreats like a turtle on the fast lane.
Longevity: proves staying power - 9 hours. Not a pleasant time.

Conclusion: between boring & unbearable - Aoud Lavender is a combination that appeals to me extremely little & should rather be avoided. Only the sharp beginning is good, the rest is a dull Montale mix that once again underscores that quantity is increasingly prioritized over quality :(

What you see is what you get
Before I actually took a sniff of this latest offshoot of the far-reaching Montale-Aoud dynasty, I thought the combination of the rather harsh and strict eaglewood in Montale's interpretation with lavender was a pretty wild idea. I couldn't imagine for the life of me that THIS could smell good. But it does, and quite well, in fact.

An extremely powerful, aromatic wave of a fully blooming lavender field washes over my nose. Not a delicate, fine, silvery-bright lavender hint, like the one I love so much in Gris Clair, but rather, as expected from Montale, a solid slap with the lavender bush right in the face. If bergamots, lemons, and saffron were included in the top note, I’ll take that as a given; after the lavender onslaught, I can no longer distinguish them.

A somewhat clearly defined heart note doesn’t reach me either, as the oud immediately joins the rather boisterous lavender. You can't really call its appearance quiet, yet I find this scent note relatively restrained compared to some other Montale-Aouds, subordinating itself to the lavender, only to then harmoniously merge with it into a spicy-balsamic whole.

As the scent progresses, lavender and oud remain the primarily perceivable components, but the lavender gradually loses its clear freshness, becoming warmer and silkier. The same goes for the oud, which is stripped of its sharpness by a very subtle sweetness and a few scattered petals, without turning directly into a cuddly scent. The initially strong scent trail, which does not reach beyond closed doors, quickly settles into an environmentally friendly measure without becoming too intimate. In terms of longevity, Montale typically leaves no wishes unfulfilled.

Friends of refined, fine scent compositions and surprising twists in the scent journey will likely turn away with a shudder. However, those who are tired of the inflationary market of oud-rose-with-something-else combinations, whether from Montale or other manufacturers, who enjoy strong fragrances and have no issues with lavender and Montale oud, should definitely give it a sniff. I generally quite like Montale fragrances - including this one. What’s written on the bottle is what I get: lavender and oud, both straightforward, powerful, enduring, and without much fuss around it.

Great lavender opening that then transitions into a mix of oud, patchouli, and sandalwood. I don't find it that bad, but I once again agree with the...

Maybe the first Montale that I find okay: lavender clearly noticeable, synthetic undertones, and a bit of oud / synthetic leather.

I know what lavender smells like - this is not it. This is plastic wood, with deodorant and candle wax spilled on it.

Overall, a spicy-woody scent, lavender here is quite sweet and not very green-herbaceous. Even though it seems quite synthetic, it's still pleasant.

Lavender with the typical Montale Oud. Stylistically like "Hayat," but less dirty (and unfortunately less luxurious smelling). Still has something!

A walk at sunset in the lavender fields of Provence.
If you love lavender, you must try this scent. Underrated.

Overly sweet lavender on patchouli and a saffron note that evokes leather. Musk yes, oud no. With the charm of furniture polish.

At first, great lavender, but it unfortunately doesn't last long. Then somehow typical Montale. S+ H++

Well adjusted. I'm lucky to still have it.
At first, it’s barn (Oud) with lavender. Then Oud-lavender. Then sweet Oud. S&H is awesome.
